thanks for the video, invaluable information in here.

Thanks. I like the push through awl. I must get a bent nose plier to compliment my string needs.

I use a razor blade and a block of wood to cut a string to a sharp edge to get through a blocked hole. The wood block is to cut against. I think they call that special pliers repair pliers and I never used it either. If you replace bumper guards and grommets you will need grommet grinders and awls, and maybe even a heat gun to make the bumper guard more pliable. I used to dab glue on the knots and the cut string that could be sharp and cut the player, or annoy them. Now I just file it down if sharp.

I have a grommet grinder, but find that I use drill bits more often. Especially for the larger grommets. I also have a heat gun, but rarely use it. Blow dryer works well also.

Thanks for info!

After you cut the the string with a diagonal cutter you can polish off that sharp edge with a cheap electric fining hook sharpener.

Great kit. What machine do you use? (magnetic tray is new and definitely picking up one for my collection)

I currently have a Baiardo, Baiardo L, and a Tourna 700-es. I have a series of videos on the Gamma Progression ELS as well.

Great vid dude, I ordered that Gamma Progression II today that I messaged you about the other day so thanks for the reply., should arrive tomorrow. Cant wait to get stringing now, lol Glad you went through the jumper lead too, :-) I ordered a Wise calibration tool also, the one you have seems to be out of stock everywhere in the UK.

SRKarting I also purchased the progression after I saw Herbs video. I absolutely love it. It’s perfect for my small stringing (side business).

Superb information Herb. I have never changed out a single grommet, only full sets and I don't own a grommet remover tool. If you run into a bad grommet during a stringing, could you show how to do it? Thanks.
@HerbBaird3 жыл бұрын
I might. What I did not show is that I actually use a drill bit more than the grommet grinder. The grinder will not work on grommets larger than 3.7mm, so no tie off spots. Even though I have several sized of replacement in different diameters and lengths, I use the longer ones more and just trim them down to size.

Hi Herb, can you please do a video on measuring string quickly for rackets? From a reel, from a pack, 16x19, 16x20. That would be amazing. Love your videos.
@HerbBaird3 жыл бұрын
That is a tough one. So many different racquets. If I say do it one way it will only apply to certain racquets. Then some string stretches more than others. Measure out 20' of string and then use it to measure your wingspan. I know that 3 of mine is roughly 19' 2". That is enough to do crosses and mains in most 98" racquets. That same measure will work in all crosses. If you have a racquet with fewer than 18 crosses you can cut shorter by about 10" per cross. For mains use the same measure and then start adding for larger heads and more crosses. Add 2' for 18 mains

@@HerbBaird Thank you. I string on a bairdo for work and a drop weight at home and this is the part I lose the most time on. I'm guessing for a drop weight I'd have to add a few more inches if I use the wingspan measuring? Since it takes more sring to wrap around the crank?

Add about a foot for a rotational stringer.

Herb, compliments on these videos! Excellent work! Question: Why did you buy the Wilson L if you were happy with the progression? And, Which machine are you most happy with? Did you sell the progression?....Richard
@HerbBaird4 жыл бұрын
I needed another machine at home, so got the L when it came out. I string 99% of racquets at home and needed another machine for heavy nights. Since then the University converted the room I was set up in and I lost my space, so I have sold the Progression.

Is the gamma starting clamp good enough for 27 kilo? Or of course lower
@HerbBaird4 жыл бұрын
sorry, I did not see this earlier. Yes, the Gamma clamp has no problem holding 27 kilos
