Tennis Tour Calendar Explained.
The calendar focuses on the four Grand Slams - the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open. But there’s more to life than the majors - in fact, tennis has one of the longest seasons in professional sport, with top players having just four weeks off a year.
The men’s (ATP) and women’s (WTA) tours usually take in 31 countries worldwide during a tightly packed schedule, with several mandatory events.
Here's how the tennis' tour calendar is made up?

@@26-mahaveersinhparmar92 Definitely! Just looked up stats ND 54 finals, RN 52 finals, RF 50 finals. RF has 86% win rate on grass. RF would have more masters than his current count for sure.

There should, but the issue with the Grass season is that due to the nature of up keeping grass, it's a very short season. So to squeeze a Masters in there could disrupt the already contested calender. Usually you'd want at least a week gap between a Masters and a Slam (like it used to be with the Rome Masters and RG). If they do this pre Wimbledon, it would really disrupt the calender.

It didn't take more than a few seconds to mention that in South America we also have clay-court tournaments in February. They always underestimate us. And we have grand slam and Davis Cup winners here.

I agree completely. They've completely missed couple of very important swings; the South American clay swing, post AO European indoors swing (Rotterdam, Montpeiller, Marseille, etc.), and post Wimbledon clay swing (Bastaad, Gstad, Hambourg, etc.)

That is true but mostly because of the disprestige that is given to south American tennis, because the Buenos Aires Open is as a matter of fact the fifth oldest tournament still alive, being even older than the Australian Open, which is a GS. Most south American players prefer to play in their land with their fans and in their favourite surface, even if that brings along the cost of having problems to get acclimated to the hard courts of Indian Wells and Miami @@toxihavoc

The old Davis Cup system was so much better. Pure tennis. Quite often in grand slams players are tired by the time they make a quarter final whereas top seeds have an easier path due to seeding system and the match can be won before they walk out on court. Davis cup you can prepare physicwlly and tactically the whole week for one match and quite often we saw amazing enxojnters whereas slams have become very obvious the last decade

This video is the best one yet when it comes to explaining the Tennis schedule! However I have still one question: what happens if a top tier player misses a certain event (like an Atp 1000) due to a temporary injury? If they can’t reach the number of mandatory appearances that way will they still get fined? Also: Don’t they have to compete in 2 ATP 250s? Or have I got that wrong?

It makes sense why Krygios doesn't do a full calendar it's very brutal how much time the season takes from the year, but also the masters that are mandatory if your a top 30 ranked player, he can easily be that but I do think it might be part of his plan to not be in the top 30 to avoid the mandatory ATP 1000s especially the clay ones atleast.

I think the top 30 players among men need to compete in 8 out of 9 masters, all 4 grandslams, 4 ATP 500 events (one of which should happen after the US Open and for the purposes of which points from Monte Carlo can also be counted) and 2 ATP 250 events.

So what is the point of playing after the US Open if you're not going to make it to the year end championship I would rather take a holiday and get ready for the Australian Open perhaps they should change the format for the finals to an elimination like the Grand Slams at least more than 8 people have a chance to win that championship

There are player commitments that players have to fulfill or risk being sanctioned/fined. For example one mandatory 500-event has to be played after the US Open.

Sunshine double is so random and really annoying as they stretch it out over 2 weeks when it should be one week. If thats too taxing on the players just have a 250 tournament in between. They are nice tournaments but why arent they done before the US OPEN. Cincinatti and the Canadian Open are decent tournaments but i feel tournaments such as Queens club and Hamburg deserve 1000 status. St Petersburg has a nice feel to it and could be an atp 1000
@oliversharpe2689
@oliversharpe2689 9 ай бұрын
I agree with the part about the sunshine double. It's kind of like 'Alright everyone, lets head to the US for a month even though we go back later in the year'. I think in place of the sunshine double they should have mini seasons leading into a Dubai Masters, Rio Masters and Indian Wells Masters(Mexico). Anyway that's just my opinion. I think there's too much of a focus on Europe and North America in the tennis calendar.

The last 12-18 months has been impacted by the Covid situation, so players were able to compete if they chose to or, in some cases, if they were able to. This was reflected in the change to the ranking points system. Prior to this, mandated players skipping Masters tournaments (with the exception of Monte Carlo) would be fined.
