Great videos. Thanks for sharing. It's fun to watch non-pro tennis sometimes. One point that many commenters seem to be unaware of is that videos like these make the ball appear to be traveling much slower than being live. I was shocked at how slow it looked like I was hitting the ball when my matches were video taped. Winners that I was excited to review on video didn't look nearly as impressive as I thought they would. On the other hand, anyone who has been to a pro event and was able to sit really close to court side knows that TV doesn't do justice to the unreal power these guys hit with. To my eye, your game is a very solid 4.5 simply based on your consistency, athleticism and hustle. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for pointing out the difference in ball speed, totally agree with you that things look slower on playback than in real life, just like how TV doesn't do pro tennis justice! I was in Indian Wells last week and can attest. Thanks for watching!

So many years passed by and many youtubers still think that NTRP is based on their opinions. Tim, you are so lucky to have played with many good players. Nate's ball control, tactics, and consistency justified his 5.0.

I think you are quicker around the court than Nate is. You did take advantage of that by hitting your groundstrokes side to side and some dropshots. He didn't seem to handle wide balls well. Nate's groundies looked awkward, but they were still effective. Nate's overhead looked pretty solid while your overheads seemed a bit weak by comparison - gave him too many second chances. You really fought well on those match points at 2-5! Good job there! I like watching your matches. Would be nice to see all the points, but that is a ton of editing! Thanx for posting these!

You guys are strong players. Tim, I'd investigate how tight you are holding the racket on the forehand side, I suspect you could add a surprising amount of power simply by loosening your grip about 30%. You should immediately notice quite a bit more power if you play around with that. I cannot tell if it is how tight you are, or the abbreviated swing, but so many of your balls fell short throughout the match that you should take a look. You have a good forehand, it shouldn't be falling short so much, and that was as big a factor as any in the outcome.

Great match. Nate played great defense and has firepower to hit winners when you give him a short ball. But you did miss more out away shots than normal, perhaps Nate’s defense caused those misses, knowing he is going to be on the run to get it he ball?

can anyone explain how these players seem to keep the racket face so closed when hitting their forehands yet they get good topspin and it rarely goes into the net?
@InfiniteQuest86
@InfiniteQuest86 6 жыл бұрын
Really hitting through the ball and follow through to the opposite ear. If you only brush up on the ball and follow through to the ear, you won't have the power to clear the net and get deep. If you only hit through (with power) the ball without following through high to the ear, the ball is going into the net since you won't lift it up for clearance. It is less necessary the more open the face.

daniel lópez lópez you need to post video evidence. When you saw “decent”, “strong”, etc. we need a way to see it for ourselves. I can say i have a strong serve but that could be a strong serve for like 3.5 level, but weak for 4.0 +. Having videos of you hitting and playing multiple games would give us a good idea of your level.

You're the stark contrast to the type of players like MEP, who doesn't care for technique, only winning, but had been paraded endlessly by various tennis Channels run by tennis instructors no less. @tennistim
@tennistim 6 жыл бұрын
Former college players usually are at least 5.0, but depends on the college
@satjiwan
@satjiwan 6 жыл бұрын
I believe usta stipulates that former d2 and above college players are 4.5+. But it varies a lot. Especially if someone has skills or history of being 4.5+ player but fitness knocks them down. It’s hard to play 5.0 tennis without adequate fitness. UTR is a better rating system (and will eliminate gender and age factors). But you need some recent results to get a good rating.
@Eliott-K
@Eliott-K 6 жыл бұрын
USTA's Evaluation system does put any current college male players at 5.0 or higher (played or committed to DI/DII/DIII=5.0, played #1 or 2 at an unranked DI school=5.5, DI and top 125 players=6-7). Results in people like me who are DIII but definitely should not be 5.0.
