@@ObiWon1089 100% facts. These guys aren't true 4.0s. But thats what happens at nationals. I've been at the 4.5 and 5.0 level and at 4.5 at least half of every team was either current, or former collegiate players. And at 5.0, it was like all current college players with some former ITF guys in there too. Was great fun, but seriously ridiculous.

Given the current state of rankings, its sandbagging, but this really should be what 4.0 tennis is. USTA 4.0 basically means ALL shots hit properly with consistency, directional control and use of pace and spin. Thats what these guys do. Above this, strategy and power start coming into play, which neither player really has. Neither comes to net, exposes weaknesses or any advanced skill, just very strong consistent strokes. Unfortunately 1.0-3.5 are just ignored levels, as its beneath everyones ego. Few tournaments for 3.0,etc. But there should be. 4.0 is every park hacks starting point. Ita a shame. 4.0 as it was designed should be something very special, which these guys are. Good match.

@@chriswylie253 I disagree that this is what 4.0 is supposed to be. Here are the definitions: 4.0 This player has dependable strokes, including directional intent, on both forehand and backhand sides on moderate shots, plus the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with some success. This player occasionally forces errors when serving and teamwork in doubles is evident. 4.5 This player has begun to master the use of power and spins and is beginning to handle pace, has sound footwork, can control depth of shots, and is beginning to vary tactics according to opponents. This player can hit first serves with power and accuracy and place the second serve and is able to rush the net successfully. These players clearly have "begun to master the use of power and spins" and "control depth of shots." This is 4.5 tennis. Their serves are the only shots that lag behind a bit; both come over the side of the ball, no real kick serves.

The guy in orange is a solid player. He does not have a typical modern game strokes, but he is not missing. He hits the ball with pace and know how to change up. if he beats 5.0 players 50% of the time, then he is 5.0 regardless of how he hits the ball. There is more than one way to hit a tennis ball.

I’m 4.5 and I don’t think I could beat the guy in the orange. The only time he looked uncomfortable was when he came to net a couple times. So mixing in some drop shots, low slices, or short angles might be a good strategy against him. He has a pusher style of play but he was able to put away winners when he wanted to. Solid player, definitely 4.5.

Disagree completely. Orange shirt has no mobility. Anytime he was forced to run, he either mishit the ball or just couldn't get to it. Not to mention he just pushed 90% of his shots which wouldn't work against the majority of 4.5 - 5.0 players. Hes a 4.0 player for sure.
@bangmonsta
@bangmonsta 3 жыл бұрын
@@Z-Bone-e7j "no mobility" is harsh, he's not moving fast but is definitely moving and returning balls. And from what I see, most of his returns land deeper than the service line, so they'll be harder to attack. He's not just pushing, he's constructing points with that 90% to poke for weakness/errors, and does attack with winners here and there.

first of all, like every else says, blue shirt if 4.5 sand bagging it. Second of all Orange shirt foot faults like cray. Third , I can tell blue shirt plays tons of clay, by the amount of spin he puts on the ball, he needs to learn to play with more drive , vary his shots and pace and play the net a little more. He had the issue I got stuck at earlier this year in a few matches: He wants to play "his game" rather than the game his opponent is bad at. My guy wanted to crush forehands and that was about it. Honestly that works against most 4.0's if you have the weapon, but as you start to face people who can deal with the pace it requires follow up offense.

Both players are good baseliners and certainly above 4.0 in that regard no question. Impressive rallying. Interestingly though neither seemed willing or comfortable coming to the net. Blue hit one successful drop shot that earned him the point. That seemed to be an opportunity for blue to exploit but he seemed content to exchange baselines thereafter. Also, I noticed neither player utilizes the split jump which is surprising. Perhaps indicating a mindset or willingness just hang at the baseline since it's their forte'? Again impressive baseliners and solid servers certainly don't make light of that.

I think, that many of us want to do highlights and make shots seen on tv or else, but here you can see that the big difference between a great perfomance and a poor one its keeping it up to your own resources. The orange guy is simple, consistent and doesnt try to hit compromising balls with strokes with low percentage like fast returning on the run as the black shirt dude. many of the error on him are because he's trying shots out of his skills, at least in this day, and this match particularly. Maybe on other week, other month he succeded on those, but on whats seen today many balls were out cos' of not being realistic with his resources. Experience its boss. Nice video!

In the first 5 minutes of this video, the player with the white shorts and navy shirt is a very good player, but he's beating himself via unforced errors, losing his concentration, and occasionally trying to do too much with the ball. The player in orange is also a very good player, and although he hit a good number of very strong shots, he's definitely more about consistency, about getting the ball back to the other side of the court. I thought the latter would win because of these factors. I was right. Good match, could've been closer IMO.

I have a friend that plays like the orange but not as high pace. The key is to hit it deep and also play drop shots and make him run around to throw him off his consistency. Your playing right into his game but doing this long baseline rallies. I noticed that the blue guy is getting winded and impatient cuz he’s hitting hard forehands while the orange is easily tapping it back while saving energy. The blue needs to hit flatter so his forehand has depth and piercing nature rather than brushing the forehand where it is safer but it goes high arching and gives the orange time to set up for the next ball. These are all mistakes I made too. The key change for me is attack the backhand and change it up with backhand slices, occasional drop shot and taking the ball early when you see it’s gonna bounce high.

Guy in blue while has good shots, tactical wise he leaves a bit to be desired - no offense here. A lot of DTL shots where he had no business of making down the line (the ball received were deep and uncomfortable). It seems he wanted to finish points fast. By doing a lot of DTL shots without any reason, he would be exposed on the easier xcourt shots from orange guy. Lack of patience as well and not forcing the point when got some short balls to come to net. Bu what came more obvious to me was the huge amount of shots where he would just hit down the line

The guy in orange could rally all day long, but the blue player kept on putting in buggy whip shots down the middle of the court which because they were buggy whipped didn't have the necessary pace to trouble orange and kept dropping midcourt. I think if the blue player hit through the ball with flatter shots that were aimed more at the corners and then closed the points out at the net he would have won comfortably. He could have also mixed it up by bringing the orange player to the net (who clearly wasn't comfortable there) through slices. The shots would have been a little riskier, but as it was the orange player just ground him down through prolonged rallies.There is no point trying to take a pusher on at his own game, 9 times of 10 he'll get you.

These would be some wicked 4.0 players haha.... WTT has an interesting format though. I like the idea of having a team average at a certain rating. It helps when people get bumped to the next level they still have the chance to play with their friends.

This is interesting: - clearly good topspin baseliners, keep ball deep, move to corners well; but a lot of those while hit hard were bouncing inside service line - not much variety, very little slice or drop shots - first serve looked ok for clay, but no one seemed to even try to hit a first serve winner (ace) even though on hard court; at this level, if every first serve is going in and every one is coming back, something does not seem right

If buddy in blue had a decent drive volley and used it to approach the score would have been 2 and 2 for him. You can't hit through guys who compensate for no split step and slow feet by lofting everything. That's exactly what they want you to do. Make you over hit and eventually tire from hitting everything at shoulder level. They'll give you the odd ripper all day. Guess that's why this is 4.0.

Honestly, the blue guy just mindlessly mashes the ball (Even with good form). Looking at this, all he needs to do is mix in short slices and be able to control direction and he will win every time.

Blue shirt needs to run the orange guy more. He doesn't move well to begin with and he just need to focus more on placement instead of just pounding the ball. When you are playing at 4.0 or above most of the time, the guy will not miss if you pound the ball to them. You make them miss by hitting away from them or doing something to make them run.

Blue shirt dude needed to make orange move around more. Orange lacked court coverage but had good consistency and didn’t miss, his stroke form is definitely old school like from 80s/90s. Blue just hit the ball back to orange while orange did a better job making blue hit shots on the run and make errors .

The guy in blue lost?? I only saw a few minutes but he looked clearly the better player. I lost a similar match yesterday. My errors - trying to finish points too soon (therefore - hitting into the net, or out). I also wasn't capitalising on my strong groundstrokes by staying back too much. Pushers are uninspiring to play but you have to be patient and mix up your shots and pace to make them uncomfortable

That's why I think Serve-volley is still a good choice on Hard court WITH Amateurs players. IFthe Blue guy forced his serve a little more he could end-up lot of points in the net. The Orange guy is more consistent, it was an error to play his game.
