Not too emotional, good storytelling, and he focused on highlighting others who helped him along the way. It was a dry, but good speech. Probably should've ended the ceremony with him or the fabulous Arbitrage instead of Meander Payless who ended up Wiki humblebragging way too much for someone who never won a Gold medal or a Major in singles.
For those of you that don't understand, tennis in India became popular only because of players like Vijay and Leander. Leander's accomplishments may look ordinary for a Westerner but they mean a lot to us, Indians. Winning an Olympic bronze medal was unheard of in an individual sport back in the day for India. His game, tenacity and passion in doubles tennis is remarkable. We are proud of both VJ and Leander. Well deserved.

You will never understand what it means to be a person of color and be told you cant do this, or deserve this. Vijay Amritraj and Leander Paes fought adversities for decades to achieve this honor. Vijay was a top player in the 70s. Leander slept in locker rooms when he had no money for a hotel room. Monetary compensations apart, he won 18 grand slam doubles titles and a bronze medal at the 1996 Olympics playing singles with a damaged wrist. if you cant say anything nice, dont say anything at all.

@@skabbaraju1 Save your free pass for the Hindu temple. It still doesn’t change what I said regarding the tacky display of egotism in his speech.
