Couldn't agree more, I realized from this video that my swing is slower due to this elbow rotation..Even if you start with the arm high you immediately see the difference in timing, consistency and speed (both motion and actual serve speed)

Can you do a video on how much grip pressure you’re using when you hold the racquet on serve and which fingers are providing most of the grip? Also what’s the importance of having an open face racquet during the prep phase ? Meaning before the ball is tossed it appears as if you’re holding the racquet with the face open before you start the service motion. I find that if I use mostly my last three fingers and thumb to grip the racquet more firmly and relax the index finger, I get a better whip action and racquet drop?
@TennisEvolution6 жыл бұрын
G CS I will do a video for this. What do you mean open racquet face? My racquet face is not open
@gcs78176 жыл бұрын
Tennis Evolution - Online Tennis Lessons At 00:53-54. Not fully open. I think on another video on kick serve you mention holding the racquet closer to eastern back hand which you said would open up the racquet face at the start of the entire service motion I think some players start with palm down at beginning

I wonder if any of your students do this. What l caught myself doing on my serve is that l would get into the load position perfectly but then l would thrust my shoulders and torso forward before my arm was allowed to fully execute the racquet drop. I have been watching your serving videos closely. So l have made the adjustment of holding my loading position long enough to allow the full execution of the racquet drop and now l am exploding forward bringing everything at once. What a difference this makes.

I found out that if you don't execute your raquet drop from behind your ear it limits your ability to fully load. The farther out the racquet is from the ear the more your flexibility is inhibited which will stop your torso and your back from getting back far enough so you can explode upward.

Another great video. I was arguing w an online coach cause he said the serve is not like a throwing motion. I told him he's wrong cause my son was a pitcher in pro baseball and picked up a crazy fast serve ( though technically off ) in no time. I told him Drew Brees and Zach Greinke were really super junior tennis players. I didn't know if that foo even knows who they are. I'm not dumb. I know it's not exactly the same but lots of similarities. I was about to tell him cause he's Euro I know kicking a field goal and taking a penalty kick in soccer aren't exactly the same but still common elements. Wonder what he'd say to that. Lol

willkittwk coaches always know. You know that :)

It is also possible the player is using a smaller grip. That hinders a 'true' continental grip, in my opinion. Your index knuckle can sit somewhat in between bevels. I find smaller grips hinders my ability to have a loose grip and arm and reduces my racquet face angle awareness. I played a match last night with the elbow the enemy reminder but I do think over the course of that match pressure gets in and shoulders get heavy and the elbow gets tucked. I started serving fairly consistently to being quite abandoned by it.
@TennisEvolution6 жыл бұрын
omgwatdouwant interesting take. Thank you 🙏🏻
@omgwatdouwant6 жыл бұрын
@@TennisEvolution It is almost like as you take your racquet back behind you, a smaller handle size with a relaxed grip, your hand semi loses more contact with the handle as opposed to larger sizes. I find the right grip size helps with a loose grip that hits an efficient serve that lets the racquet do the work. But maybe I'm too relaxed!

Interesting. Most guys have tossed a baseball around and would never throw a baseball with a tucked in elbow. But yet it often happens on the serve. I am guilty of this myself. What do we learn from this? We learn that while the serve is very similar to a throwing motion it does not mean that basic baseball throwing experience necessarily translates into the serve. There is still a tendency to tuck in the elbow even amongst those with basic throwing experience... Tucking in the elbow will incorporate and strain the wrong muscles instead of keeping the elbow up and achieving the proper shoulder stretch and racquet drop with the stronger shoulder muscles... *After you "Elbow the Enemy", do not let the elbow drop.*
