The tide has changed for Catlos over the last 12 months, not just at the US Open. It is far easier on the way up to the top than to stay there. On the way up, every loss is a learning experience & every win propels you forward. Once you get to the top, expectations of yourself (others) change & there is more pressure. Any loss can feel like failure. Carlos is a smart young man with good people around him. I am confident he will acquire the mindset to continue to be a top player.

I totally agree with your analysis on Alcaraz. I very much look forward to a more mature and controlled version of Alcaraz in the future. He's so amazing, but I find (what appears to be) his need for reassurance from his box and the crowd slightly irritating to be honest. Other players at his level don't have the extraordinary natural charisma that Alcaraz has, so they have had to learn how to self generate their emotional strength. I really think that Alcaraz just simply has never has to do this. I firmly believe he will figure it out.

What happened to Djokovic (simply the GOAT): *recently* olimpic Champion at *37 years old* . What happened to Alcaraz (a brilliant new star): *recently* Roland Garros and Wimbledon Champion, and silver medal in Paris (Olimpic Games). This is what really happened to both of them. And finally *NO* match against an ATP Top 100 ranked player is exactly a piece of cake.

All true. Also, Alcaraz is 21. Because of Nadal, we think great players should be winning young (most don't). Djoker is 37. Because of Federer, we think great players should be winning when old (most don't). The Djoker generation benefitted from 10 years of weaker up-and-comers (Next Gen), but age comes for us all. 23-28 is physical prime, Sinner is now there, Alcaraz will be soon.

@@Mzee1084 this isn't entirely correct. 1.Djoko is ranked #4 now and will only drop further since he has to defend points. 2. This is going to sound very strange, and out of left field, and of course I am just a remote fan with zero real information. But I think the problem of Carlos in this US Open had to do with his love life. I hear very little about his romantic entanglements, so this guess does not stem from rumors or suppositions. It’s just a feeling based on watching him. Nothing is quite so destabilizing to very young people as romance gone sideways. It can be very overwhelming when it happens. It can turn you upside down. It might even have been something transitory, that was happening to him that day or that week…perhaps even something an older more experienced person would not have been fazed by. Or it might have been something more elemental, more foundational. This is just a guess, just a feeling, and of course I might be wrong. But that’s my guess.
