HEAD velocity MLT, great string, great value for money, the coating offers a bit more spin. If you have the money X-one Bi phase, extremely powerful. Appears to wear out more on the crosses than the mains. Will make a great substitute for Champions choice, Bi phase in the mains (16g), Alu power rough in the crosses.

I´m actually playing the Head Velocity MLT 1.25, it´s a very good string for me because it holds tension very well, I measure after every play with an ERT 300. It was strung with 24,5/23,5 kg, it came out as DT 37, I played 4 hours until now, it still has DT 36. Only thing I don´t like that much, is that the string delivers a lot of power, so if your racket or you can generate that power maybe it can be too much.

Surprised you didnt snap the nxt 17 the whole nxt range is overpriced and shit tbh Soft yeah but zero durability starts fraying immediately. Enjoy the channel, and this was a welcome video. Been using Gamma Live Wire XP for many years. It’s about $5 cheaper than the Gamma Professional, but I’ve always found it to be very gut-like, and the last several years I’ve been using Luxilon Big Banger in the mains and the XP in the crosses. Not hitting as hard as I used to, but I’ve never broken this hybrid combo. Just cut them out after 6 months and replace.

1) Babolat XCEL 17 2) Technifibre TGV 17 3) Gosen AK Pro 16 Only string these multis on mains. String a thin 18 gauge nylon on crosses. Easy on the arm. Lotsa feel and spin with each of these. 17 gauge for tournament play. 16 for practice.

Josh Kuhn-Kraemer Yes, I sometimes do that in the summer months or when a tournament uses harder or heavier balls. If so I use Pro Hurricane in an 18. But it can eat through a 1.25 rather quickly so I’d use a 1.30 on mains. The pinnacle setup is of course natural on mains with a thin nylon on crosses. Lasts thru a week of lessons, maybe!

I don’t have a top five yet as I am new to the poly filaments. I just use the Yonex Rexis speed, and the strings moved around a lot and broke after just three or four hours of play. Not great. It felt really good until it broke, But it really has to last longer. Poly strings were too hard on my elbow and I used to use a hybrid gut/nylon and it was pretty good. But too expensive.

At my club my top seller is NXT. I string most of my demos with NRG. I also sell a good amount of TNT. X-one Biophase is my personal favorite. Closest you can get to Nat gut imo.

Marvin Yeap It is a solid string. It does break/fray quick but durability is not a strength of multis in general. I don’t sell a lot of NRG. I usually have an abundance of it so I use that for demo racquets.

Tried most of these multis, Head Velocity is the best for me. Good blend of poly-like spin potential with multi power and comfort. They will all snap in a couple of weeks for me. But at half the price of NXT, NRG2, X-1, Velocity is a bargain.

Tecnifibre Duramix, I used 16g and now 15L and it's really nice, good crisp and comfortable feel (natural color). I tried new HDMX 16, bad durability but crispier, firmer and slightly better spin. NXT Control is a good value also, quite durable but firmer than Duramix, nice snap back also such as the Tecnifibre ones. Head Velocity is definitely a nice cost-effective string also.

I tried Gamma Pro once and it was stiff, not plush. The tension may have been too high. X1 Biphase was softer but may have been strung too low because it lacked control. Sometimes you don’t get the ideal tension before trying a different string. And hybriding also can make it more complex. To get the best value, there is an ideal tension to put strings in - but you kinda have to know the string and your setup. Multi’s and Syn Gut’s will bed in and eventually lock up the string bed. I have, however, had massive amounts of topspin from synthetic gut in lower tensions. But organizing the stringbed is aggravating. If the stringbed locks up around the time it’s lost tension, that’s pretty ideal for cutting.

Technifibre Multifeel is another good $10 multi. It has a semi-solid core surrounded by filaments so it plays a little crisper than most others. I just strung my Yonex vcore pro 97 310g with Wilson velo MLT 16 @ 60lbs and hit with it yesterday - it feels great!

Did you know technifiber makes the nxt line strings for Wilson and the nrg are the same model.Also Andre Agassi supposedly used prince synthetic gut 16 from time to time early in his career at 70 tension before switching to hybrids.So you could put it in your demos they cost less and are good enough for control at high tension.

Very nice list and I have used all on the list. The value string works well and gives great bang for the buck. I like the Head velocity MLT crisp feel on a "main" with a Wilson sensation or NXT or NRG2 on the crosses.

First off, I've been enjoying your channel - thanks for sharing your views and knowledge. Funny how you can get a feeling from a string just by how it goes into the racquet. My "honorable mention" is Dunlop Pearl, now discontinued, because it strings a lot like poly, and gives something like a hybrid set-up but you can do it one-piece. In terms of multi's, I wonder what your opinion is of the old Tecnifibre 625 TGV ... which I'm told was a precursor to the x-one biphase AND the NRG2. For me, that is the string that was all time the closes approximation to gut, but unlike the x-one biphase, that string was really really tough. It was also kinda gummy, and just like you said about the NXT, you could be playing with it frayed down to 50% and you could still hit away without breaking the string. I got my hands on some 625 a couple years ago and decided to put it in my vintage Wilson racquet; the coating crumbled off it as I was stringing it... the fibers were like silk. I have this sinking suspicion that some professionals were still getting it up to a few years ago, as I found some shop in Europe which, at least according to Google Translate, says 625 is one of the options they will string with. Maybe they just bough pallets of the stuff in the 1990s... who knows. It was not a crisp sting. I don't think you get much from either of the replacements in a hybrid setup that you don't get from a cheap $5-10/set syn gut. For hybrid, I want something that is going to pocket well but be tough enough to hold up to the friction from the poly. I second the comment asking for your recommendation of the top 10 strings (5 multi + 5 poly) for hybrid stringing.

Initially I had X-One Biphase on my Phantom 93P. When I switched to natural gut on that racquet the difference in comfort was barely noticeable. But let's keep in mind that the racquet is a flexible one. When I used Biphase on my recently acquired Wilson Pro Staff it was a different story. Yes, I have elbow history and I used 18 gauge (not the best option to absorb vibration) but still Biphase did not do its job and I had to restring the racquet with Wilson Sensation Control. Way better solution for my arm.

@@TennisSpin Ran the test, the mains in poly 17g and crosses X-one Biphase 16g. Both at 50 lbs. Son broke the crosses at 5-6 hours. For comparison on a full bed of poly he gets about 8-9 hours and he never breaks the crosses, its is the mains that always break. We playing with the tension a bit. He said it feels softer, but still prefers the full bed of poly.

It's weird for me to hear NRG next to Technifibre. I always associate that name with Babolat. I certainly agree with the Wilson NXT and the Technifibre X-One Biphase on the list. Personally, I like my multifilament strings to be made with polyolefin fibers so I'm including Head RIP Control, Iso-Speed Professional and Iso-Speed Control to my personal top 5 list.

I’ve been playing this game at a pretty high level since I was 10. I just turned 28 this year and I still don’t understand how hybrid works like 2 different strings on a racket. What’s the benefit? Kaiser De Leon 1. Strings on mains define main behavior of string bed 2. Strings on crosess adds what do you need If you put natural gut or multi on the mains, you will have tons of control and feel + co poly on the crosses for spin ( natural gut + luxilon alu rough ) Etc..

I’ve been playing the two Tecnifibre strings for a few months. Love them both and will be finally doing a side-by-side comparison this weekend. Chose them as they’re good for tennis elbow sufferers. Used to like Blast but won’t touch it now. Too hard.

when you say the Technifibre X-One BiPhase has "a dampened feeling and it's good," could you please elaborate? And why the 17 versus the 16? Meaning, I understand the gauge sizes, but in the Technifibre scenario, why the 17 vs the 16? Just because that's what most people buy?

What are your top rated syn guts for full bed and hybrids? Have you ever used pro supex syn gut spiral flex? I some times use a weired but effective combo of syn gut spiral flex mains and prince warrior response crosses. Warrior response is another of oddball string that works surprisingly well. It's got a heck of a coil memory when stringing, but plays well as a hybrid string, as a main, or cross.

Thanks for your review on multifilament strings. I think I first came across Technifibre strings back in 1991. My supplier RMS sold loose sets, not individually packaged Technifibre 515. I also got sets of Technifibre 416 in light pistachio color which was Henri LeConte's signature string. I even used 315 which was a thinner gauge and strung a few 747 designed for wide bodies like the Wilson Profile and Prince Thunderstick. I believe the number represented the amount of multifilament fibers. My first impression of this string was "Wow"! It was unbelievable. TF started designating 515 SPL and now called NRG2. NRG2 and X-One Bi Phase are great strings. You did not mentioned pre-stretching requirements for any of these strings as I believe Technifibre still recommends it for theirs.

Any thoughts on crosses VS mains? Is Tennis Spin using the "normal" poly in the mains, multi's in the crosses? My #1 and #2 pretty much mirror his, as well as his thoughts on Wilson NXT. Didn't it used to be more durable?

Hi, good vid! Can you give advice of a good multifilament string spec and tension considering the racquet of choice. My 10 yr old son is competing and started to jump on competing on yellow balls and with older kids. He seemed to have strong arms as his coached noticed and can hit the ball with power and spin on a full swing. He’s been using Wilson clash 26 with the default string which I think is on Wilson Sensation 17g on 55 tension. These I think is a good racquet for him and he really likes it. The Strings has now started to move of its place and believe lost its tensions and power. Would you please recommend a string config for the Clash that can help him on his game, can give more power, spin and control and at the same time comfortable for him to not to hurt his arm on such a young age. Just to give him a fighting edge to his older opponents. Thanks I appreciate your work!
