I think that the closeted Erik theory is interesting but personally my theory is that Igor is an unreliable narrator and that Erik is probably straight or just simply not into him but Igor is so infatuated with him that he believes he is into him. Maybe, just my thoughts on it.
@TennisThomАй бұрын
thats wildd
@Nate-ub8isАй бұрын
i actually love this theory, it would make since with how in love Igor is with Erik to the point where he has deluded himself into thinking that Erik must love him.
@whup7181Ай бұрын
I agree with Igor being an unreliable narrator, but in a slightly different way. This is super long so you definitely don’t need to read it, but this is my theory: In the start of the album, Igor is working up the courage to talk to “him” (IGOR’S THEME - BOYFRIEND). But my theory is, he never actually does this, and starting at RUNNING OUT OF TIME, the album is actually a fake scenario in which Igor is brave enough to make subtle moves, but this fake scenario is also the worst case scenario. The scenario in which it doesn’t work out, either that he doesn’t reciprocate Igor’s feelings or is too scared to come out of the closet, or that he is hung up on a girl instead of Igor. The entire rest of the album is this fake scenario, and at the end, Igor has convinced himself that it’s not worth it, that he’s not really in love with him (I DON’T LOVE YOU ANYMORE), and this worst case scenario really will happen, so they should just be friends (ARE WES STILL FRIENDS?). He’s so paranoid about the worst happening that he won’t even try and chase this man that he’s in love with, which makes sense, considering Igor’s, in my opinion, shy and insecure personality. It honestly doesn’t make sense to think that Igor would have the guts to make any moves on him. It’s just not who he is. So theoretically, we don’t know what would’ve happened if Igor had just decided to talk to him, maybe even make a move. The “events” of this entire album could have technically happened whilst Igor was sitting on a park bench, or even going on a RUN. The song EARFQUAKE proves this theory right off the bat in my opinion. The use of the lyric “for real this time” over and over again shows that Igor has envisioned at least a few times finally going up to this guy that he’s in love with, but each time, he doesn’t do it, a theme that I think continues throughout the album. He’s just doesn’t do it. This theory also makes sense considering the past themes in Tyler’s albums of delusion, or just having stuff in your head. In the Wolf trilogy, Dr. TC, Ace, Tron Cat, and Samuel, are all in Wolf Haley’s (who I believe to be the version or part of Tyler in this trilogy that is closest to who Tyler is in reality) head. And he has to go through the delusion to let them go. Igor has to go through this delusion to let his love interest go, for better or for worse. So really, this album is not for the people whose heart got broken, it’s for the people who are too scared to try. (If you read this whole thing, I’m so sorry but also thank you so much, I love you) And if you wanted to factor the loop in, the album could be what runs through Igor’s mind every time he considers finally making the move on him.
@whup7181Ай бұрын
It could also be that the person feeding him this fake scenario is a less violent version of Tron Cat, yet again trying to ruin his life

I'd like to add something In Earfquake we hear the lyrics "Cause when it all comes crashing down, I'll need you" And in Puppet, we hear the sirens at the end, signalling when everything comes crashing down, and the rest of the album is Tyler showing how he can't move on, and that he needs Erik, just like he said in Earfquake Which is more proof of this album being a loop, and it shows that Tyler already knows what'll happen, he knows everything will come crashing down. But he still tries again, because he needs this guy. This really is an amazing album by Tyler, and an even better video breaking it down Well done Mr TennisThom

31:32 Lmao I dont know why I never noticed the insinuation of "Do you need head?" I love when Tyler does that though, its such a good way to convey uncertainty about what hes about to say but still what he feels. He also did it in boredom when he says "What the fuck is the problem is it me cause Im not solved I'm... Bored..." The lines before would make you assume hes going to end the verse with "Gay" but he ende it with an insecure "Bored" that trails off into quietness. God, I love Tyler's writing so much, so creative, and great video Thom. I've been feinin for a new video from you. I've just been watching the DAMN. analysis and the wolf trilogy videos on repeat lol

There was this one girl that I really liked, and I went through a very similar story to Igor but with her. When I first found Igor, I didn't really like it at first, but I think it's because I didn't get it. I had never listened to rap outside of Biggy and Eminem (from when my parents played them), so I didn't really know how to listen to Igor. But the last track really stuck with me. I kept listening to "Are We Still Friends", and eventually I gave the album another shot. And another. And another. And within a year, not only had it become my favorite album of all time, but it helped me finally get over her. Ofc now there's this OTHER girl that I'm obsessing over which is NOTHING like the story in Igor, but that's part of the album, too. The endless cycle.
