Wow, i also had Fernando in mind. Fils will need to keep adding to his game if he wants to keep improving though. Power is impressive, but as players become more well rounded, a one sided game will inevitably fail.

Zverev is such a temperamental and bad loser. Even lower rung than Ostapenko's and Puntisevas of the world... They almost invariably give a cold handshake or a slightly warm one when they are winning. But this two-faced guy, Zverev, when he is in a mood, clings and clutches to the opponent at the net and gives them a long "encouragement speech." And now he can't even congratulate Fils on his victory, just because he choked big time again, and Fils snatched the victory from him. The underhand serve is just an excuse to be mad.

Did you see the whole match? That looked like he wasn't merely a sore loser but more like he was pissed at Fils about something. I've seen plenty of Zverev handshakes where he lost and wasn't nearly like this. Yes, he's not a very good loser, but sure seemed like he was ticked off about something in particular beyond just losing.

@@BassByTheBay He was pissed over the ball in the game before, which he gave out and didn´t continue playing and the referee said, that the ball touched the line, which he did, but he touched it on the outside of the baseline. And that ball was a breakball, but that does not matter, when you have that many chances to break, you should be pissed more on yourself instead of playing the crying baby again.

I agree with that level of power shots he can really bother both Alcaraz and Sinner because both are also using power, it is only they have better mindset and more variety, it only depends on Fils to try to catch up with another level, but i feel that he might turn into another Tiafoe and Ben Shelton attitude, we saw him against De Minaur he couldn't resist showing off and lost, if he didn't find a way he will be exposed and both Alcaraz and Sinner will leave him behind by miles.

Fils was complaining to his box and then interrupted his serve complaining to the ref. I don't know what he was talking about but he made gestures towards specific points in the crowd. Maybe something annoyed him...

There had been a dispute about a ball called in for a ball that Zverev claimed was out on his court (on the 10th game of last set, I think) and even asked the umpire to go and check it. There was some arguing between them and on the next change of sides, Fils went to Zverev and said something supposedly about the way he challenged that call. The frosty handshake was because the matter was still hot. There might have been more stuff prior to that, but I only watched the final games.

Zverev needs a sports psychologist. Losing to Alcaraz up 2 sets to 1 is one thing, but 1-7 to Fils in the final tiebreak is another. For the world #4 to convert 1 of 22 break points versus anyone is classic mental fragility. Fils played the best match of his life so far, but 1/22 is inexcusable for Zverev given his skill and talent. In related news, this level from Fils was shocking -- the absurd accuracy, the power, the movement -- a few more tournaments like this and he becomes the clear favorite to join Alcaraz and Sinner for the next-gen Big 3. Right now, Rune still has the edge, but Rune hasn't been good in what feels like a year, including his loss to Fils in this same tournament. Then again, Fils does play very similarly to Felix, including the same grunt and all -- could also have a meteoric rise and then a gradual decline into virtual irrelevance. Too soon to say, but the immediate signs over the past month are good for the Frenchmen (Perricard in Wimbledon, Gaston against Zverev, Fils against Zverev).
@richietaylor9870
@richietaylor9870 2 ай бұрын
Sorry, which is it? Because if you're saying Fils played out of this world and is looking like a candidate for the next big 3. then perhaps losing the tiebreak 7-1 is nothing to do with psychology, and is simply a case of being beaten by a player who is playing, as you say, with 'absurd accuracy, power and movement.' You can have the best mentality on tour and buckets of confidence, but when a hugely talented, up-and-coming, young star is playing lights-out and painting the lines with every shot, you're still very much at risk of losing.

This is a personal opinion: Zverev doesn’t have respect for himself and therefore doesn’t respect other people when he should. I’m not comparing Arthur Fils with Federer, Nadal, Novak or Alcaraz but Zverev wouldn’t dare cover them with champagne after losing a final. What makes him think it’s ok to do that to Arthur Fils? Alexander Zverev is 27 years old, Carlos Alcaraz is 21 is and acts and plays like a Champion. I very well may be wrong but I don’t see a great future for Zverev. He may be No 4 in the world but he is a very long way from greatness. Look at all the greats who have gone before him.
