He has always had a good backhand, Medvedev famously commented that he hates trading cross court backhand with Carlos because of the pace, but Carlos has improved his timing and speed - 5 kmh more than last year on both the backhand and the forehand!

Carlos's shots have gained 5 kmh on both sides compared to last year, he hits flatter and more pacy shots on both sides now. Not only that but his placement has improved tremendously. The racket head speed has helped him find angles, too. I feel his time wtih Rafa may have helped him, very similar backhand motion. Can't wait to see how this new Carlos does against Jannick on a medium fast hard court. Yannick has been incredible against Lehecka who has even speeder shots on both sides (189kmh! Carlos is at 179kmh and Yannick at 175kmh). Even Medvedev who is usually very good at absorbing pace had trouble against Carlos today, especially in the cross court backhand to backhand exchanges. His serve also has been rock solid, with 70% of first serves and great placement.

@@Martinjack08 I don’t think he will get back to his 2021 serving days, keep in mind he’s been having some shoulder issues for years now. I think he definitely improve it though, with enough practice. I have a feeling he will win Vienna to be honest. Here he just came back from two tough losses at the laver cup then traveled to Asia immediately after. I believe he will solely focus on serve after the Asian swing. Some positives to take away from medvedev. He hung with alcaraz in ground strokes but unfortunately his serve wasn’t good enough. Medvedev is by far the fastest tall man I've ever seen. The shots he was getting to were incredible. so many drop shots he was able to get to and do something with. Incredible, also the match was played with hyper competitive good spirit! Medvedev looked like he was having fun out there. What athleticism from both players. Great exchange at net. Two of the best entertainers on the tour. You can't be mad at losing when you played so well also, but your opponent was just better. It's kind of easier that way, I'd think.

@@Bobby.546what are you talking about? Did you have a look at the match stats? Medvedev’s 1st serve was 64% compared to his 60% YTD average, so he was serving better than usual. And if, as you say, his form wasn’t that good so far this year then 64% is a huge improvement over how he served so far this year. However, he won 55% of his first serve points vs. 72% for his YTD average. What this means is that Alcaraz’s return of serve has improved and that he basically took more points from Med’s. Furthermore, Med’s average first serve speed so far this year was 154 km/h while in this match against Alcaraz, his first serve average speed was 189 km/h. So, not only more first serves in but also faster serving. I understand that you like Medvedev, but your claims/confidence are not supported by the game stats.

Medvedevs strategy to wear out opponents will not work with Carlos.... Unless he dictates he is not going to win ...

Alcaraz needs to stop their extended grunt. I can still hear it while his opponent is swinging.

How can Jannik live with that? Maybe by having fewer mistakes? This new upgraded version of Carlos is positively scary (though, I do know highlights paint a particularly rosy picture...)

Contrary to what evryone says in this thread that alcaraz fh/bh speed increased by 5 mph i feel that its the reverse ..that meddy shots lack the bite punch he usually has before ..his speed before was not that much ..however it used to penetrate better than what it was before...both sincaraz have got into his head and he feels everytime that he needs to come up with a new plaan or play differently than he used to plaay agaunst others .i think he needs to go back to drawing board and come up with a better gameplaan than against sincaraz alone...maybe his shoulder has to improve and i feel that he has only 1 or 2 years to win a slam ..or he has to wait until like a la Murray 2016 when all the big 3 got injured or they were demotivated lije bovak was when he won the career slam

I think other players recognize Alcaraz like the real number 1 and at the same time Sinner hasn't the same "respect" (or fear, like you prefer). I'm italian but i think Alcaraz is the best with the best tennis, Sinner is an example of work, dedition and of course talent, he's a machine more than Alcaraz who i think is less obsessed with tennis.
