@@jimmyjoe1591the most incredible stat: in the 2023 French open, Nole played 54 tie break points (or something very similar), and had 17 winners, and zero unforced errors. To play 54 points without an unforced error is statistically almost impossible..

One of his best comebacks ever, when you consider the ridiculousness of that Tweener point finished with a perfect dropper at 30-0 which was essentially a must win point to stay alive, then after getting out of that game and breaking back going down 6-4 in the TB then another 2 MPs somehow overcoming all of it and still needing to win a third against a Murray who was playing at highest level it truly is remarkable.

I don't agree with people who deny the Big 4. Murray was every bit as good as his competition and was extremely unfortunate to have choked in many Grand Slam finals, more so against Djokovic than any other. In any other era it's a certainty he is an All Time Great, it is a great shame many futurists will overlook his achievements because he could've easily been 10+ GS in any other era.
@MA-rq6ie
@MA-rq6ie Жыл бұрын
Here is the problem with the Big 4. Murray was definitely a part of that group but he wasn't for a too long period (about 4,5 years) and his total title tally is not anywhere near the big 3. So the big 4 is more like a period, something between 2011 and 2016 (which is not a short period) but the big 3 is an era that lasts from about 2007 up to 2021 and also the big 3 is a name for 3 biggest champs of the game. The big 4 is a 5 year time period, the big 3 is a name for 3 biggest champs in sports history.

Murray wasn't brave. He'd become passive for large parts of his career. He could've had more success if he had that killer instinct and was more clutch.

If people would even understand a real meaning of that "Big" clause, from back then, they wouldnt use such title so easely Big player is the one who win most Big titles (Slam or ATP Finals or Masters or Olympics), or at least going above previous record hold by Lendl with 33. Federer was first going above that number in 2009., Nadal in 2013. and Djokovic in 2015. Now - That's Big3 formation That was a race really and exactly that achivement (going above 33 Big titles) is the meaning of Big3 😉 Current Big title numbers looks like: 1. Djokovic 69 2. Nadal 59 3. Federer 54 4. Lendl 33 ... 12. Murray 20 Murray was kept as possible so hypothetical Big since with 20 Big titles in 2016 it still looked like he could achieve that 34 in next couple years too... but no, he get injured and that is it. If Murray achived at least that 34, no wonder, nobody would deny nor argue Big4 But we cant say Murray is that one, when that really is Ivan The Terrible (of tennis) 😊 Nowdays (since Djokovic's record looks crazy), people think in general meaning that Big is the one who is just winning or going to winning whatever Big title... which is fine to use (as there is no real race like before), but that was not an original meaning at the time. Wanna be Big? literally meant "Break a previous eras Big titles record" or simply "Race above 33 Big titles" , so really going above Lendl's Big title count. Anybody stiil wonder why Djokovic exploded in his peak years 2011-2016 making just there 40 Big titles!!!! During the same period Nadal made 15, Murray 14 and Federer 10. So yeah Murray was actually 3. best back at the time of Djokovic's peak and very near Nadal. But sadly, that didnt lasted for him for longer.
@catalyst2155
@catalyst2155 Жыл бұрын
@@milankostic5401 I don't deny this on a statistical level and agree with everything you said. It's unfortunate of course that the injury did it as the conversation went away from being part of that crop as he could've managed to win more big titles and providing competition for Novak and Nadal. I think Murray would've definitely continued his form and chipped away from Nadal and Novak's current title tally but that's a whole another debate and fact is we will never know because it never happened. I'm judging him for his tennis ability and what he had achieved relative to Novak, Federer and Nadal up to his injury. He was still behind in slams but made the matches extremely competitive between those greats and won a decent amount of big titles as you've mentioned. When you look at the gap between Murray and the rest of the competition below him, there was no debate that he was the biggest threat to the current greats. I think it's just a shame that he won't be remembered much when he would likely dominate more in previous eras.

@@b2m59I think, there is no mistake here (and there is in Tiafoe vs Raonic) In the rules only the net and the net posts were mentioned as the permanent fixture, but the ball here touched the cord (the band over the cord), so Murray won the point by the rules. Tiafoe, however, touched not only the net, but also the cord (the band over the cord), so he should lost that point
@b2m59

@@Terrain239 According to the ITF rules 2022, ‘In a singles match played with a doubles net and singles sticks, the net posts and the part of the net outside the singles sticks are permanent fixtures and are not considered as net posts or part of the net.’ Murray hit the ball and the ball touched the permanent fixture before hit the ground. So he should lose the point. The ‘net’ Tiafoe touched was actually a permanent fixture and it didn’t count.
@Terrain239
@Terrain239 5 ай бұрын
@@b2m59 my point is the ball in 2013 didn't touch the permanent fixture, because it didn't touch the net It touched the band over the cord, and any part of it is not a permanent fixture by the rules
@b2m59
@b2m59 5 ай бұрын
@@Terrain239 Well, I get your point. Sorry that I didn’t read your previous comment carefully. But I think the cord, band, sticks, net post are all part of the net. There are no sentences that clearly define the net and its parts. But according to the Rule 25a, ‘It is a good return if: a. The ball touches the net, net posts/singles sticks, cord or metal cable, strap or band, provided that it passes over any of them and hits the ground within the correct court; ‘ I think the explanations after the net means the net post, sticks, cord… are part of the net. According to your opinion, the band is a very special thing on the court. It’s not a permanent fixture and not part of the net. But there is no support in the rules on this.

Yeah. Djokovic until 2011 was only slightly better than Murray. In my HUMBLE opinion, Murray s inability to flatten his forehand and play more aggresive tennis was a reason why he had not much success against BIG 3 on slams. Except 2012-2013 Djokovic and 2008 USO Rafa( who was being abused on HC significantly).
