The fact that in the thumbnail Yetunde is wearing a green top and Serena won the slam dedicated it to Yetunde while wearing a green Nike Kit ❤❤❤ Serena is iconic

I remember all of this. Serena also changed her racket ahead of the 2007 AO. In 2006, Some interviewer of Tennis magazine actually asked her about why she and Venus played with oversized rackets meant for beginners and she said she was practicing with someone who played with a 95 sq inch head racket, she tried it and she didn't miss a shot during that practice. That practice led to talks with Wilson's manufatcturing team to give her a heavier racket with a smaller head size (from 113 sq to 103-104 sq inches. it definitely helped her win the AO that year.

@@DamianTran yeah i think oversized rackets were marketed to women in the mid to late 90's as being able to give them more power but racket technology showed that this wasn't exactly true (Davenport/Capriati had no shortage of power with 95 sq inch, heavier rackets) , so by the mid-2000's, they started to go out of vogue. Justine changed from 106 to 95 sq inch head. Vaidisova from 110 to 102 and the williamses as well. other women went towards standard tweener frames (mostly Babolats). the only woman i can think of that increased her racket head was Mary pierce who played a very high risk game and could use the control of an 88 sq in racket to a standard 98 sq inch yonex that was 11.5 oz which was considered heavy in those days.

I’m Aussie and a Serena Stan it was so satisfying when she won this title it would have to be my favorite Serena major run. The amount of people who had written her off after a loss to Bammer in Hobart then to ultimately smack down Sharapova in the final of AO was Epic ❤ Ps Loved this video bro actually can’t wait for your US Open content 🙌🏾
@AC-ss5oy2 ай бұрын
omg...the stuff that they said about her figure was soo ridiculous. I remember even in 2001!!! at the US Open, John McEnroe and Tracy Austin were commentating (maybe the match against Anca Barna?) and he said " it looks like she could shed a couple of pounds" . Tracy was like "what? there's not an ounce of fat on her...someone get him (John) out of here". they were calling Serena fat even when she had a freaking six pack!!! Like you could see her arms and through the yellow Puma dress that she was fit like a track star.

@@ChristiansCourt you would have loved it. I loved seeing commentators dog pile onto Serena and write her off only to then watch them have to eat their words over and over again. of course most of them were white (Carillo, Bud Collins, Patrick McEnroe, Pat Cash etc) and profited from 'chastizing' a black player but Serena made them all look like fools. I'm pretty sure the optics of it all (and social media) is what led to more the diverse commentating in tennis that we have today. they love to say race has nothing to do with it but it does. They never chastised Hingis or Capriati the way that they tried to do it with the Williamses. Richard and Oracene did an amazing job and prepared them very very well for this stage.

You're the best! Thank you! This brought back so many painful memories for me. I remember so much of this. I appreciate your summary of these documentaries since I don't have a subscription. I went back and watched the Olympics between Maria and Serena the other day after watching this the 1st time. That is my all-time favorite match between them because there was a look in Serena's eye that day, and you knew she was on a mission. It meant more than just winning a gold medal. She beat Maria in a little over an hour, 6-0 6-0. It was outstanding!! The Williams sisters went through a lot, but especially Serena 😢😢😢 It was not right, but I was so proud of how she came through it all. She was so strong, and I am so glad she had her family and sisters, especially Venus, to lean on. Keep them coming. Thanks again!

The 2007 AO final was up there with some of the greatest match performances in tennis history, paralleled only by a few examples that come to mind - Serena herself 2012 Olympic final, Kvitova 2014 Wimbledon final, Djokovic 2019 AO final and 2016 AO SF, Nadal 2008 FO, Fed 2005 USO final

That whole 2012 Olympics in the most memorable for me. I think she only lost 18 games the whole tournament (6 matches I believe, I could be wrong) against the best players in the world at the time. She just dominated that tournament.

Amazing video. With all these blatant facts, i am shocked people still act surprised that Serena struggled between 2004-2007. Anyone would struggle under this circumstances especially in such a tough era. The fact that she made it to 3 slam finals and won 2 within that period is incredible. Peak Serena would dominate in any era. Her issues within this period benefited most players. I also believe Chris Evert's letter and Navratilova's comment came out of a place of concern and love. Serena's career is a miracle.

Former players and sports writers criticizing the body, fitness, desire, focus, belief of a player was not normal. John McEnroe once suggested Lindsey Davenport should be more fit, and all the same former players who said the same about Serena defended Davenport, also defended Maria Sharapova when it was revealed she'd been doping (for 10 years).

I liked your commentary until you had the nerve to say Serena was outclassed by Sharapova at Wimbledon when she lost to her the first time. What? Outclassed is what happened to Sharapova at the olympics. Also the 20-2 match wins that Serena had over Sharapova in her career is an indication that Serena was head and shoulders abover her. I can't believe that crap came out of your mouth. Anyone can lose a match, but what you said was dead wrong.

@@ChristiansCourt outclassing someone means blowing them off the court. That didn’t happen in the match mentioned. It did however, happen when Serena outclassed Maria in the Olympics 6-0, 6-1 for the gold medal. In the Australian Open final in 2007 Serena win 6-1 6-2. So many more examples.
