Steve seemed really confident that the team have learnt from their mistakes in regards to release dates and broken, rushed updates. Having an actual release date for Heart of Deimos is such a good feeling. Warframe looks to be escaping from that rut it's been in for the past 2+ years

I dislike how Steve us saying that they have failed last year because they were too ambitious, especially regarding Railjack. They didn't close anywhere close to what their ambition was, namely connecting the game together into a more coherent experience using Railjack, they have utterly failed there.

@@Psycorde Well, they were too ambitious, they wanted to do the whole connection thing, but somewhere along the way, either because of time constraints or technical issues something went wrong and they weren't able to do it so the had to scrap it and use the old systems and integrate them into RJ to at least have something to launch. Remember how at TC2019 he said that RJ wouldn't be a modding up to capacity experience but rather a tactical, on the fly, adapt your ship thing? Yeah that never came...and it probably won't for a long time.

@@DeLawrence97 They bit more than they could chew. Their ambition was disproportional to their abilities, let's say that. But this is not what Steve meant. He implies that RJ failed because it's too different or something of sorts, not because majority of the puzzle they envisioned is simply missing. What they wanted can't be achieved without revamp of the star chart and mission structure, it would be a different game in many ways if they went through with it.

@@Psycorde Ah, I get it now. Well RJ is simply put...another game within Warframe. It's just that it's empty...I love the flying mechanics the weapons and how they feel ,the boarding and stuff, but there's simply...nothing to do with them other than do a mission when bored for the atmosphere only. So ofc, without a revamping and integration into the main game/activities, RJ is just another island you play for a while and then never touch again.

@@DeLawrence97 I've seen a lot of people complain that Railjack isn't doing the "switching ship abilities on the fly thing" like they showed at Tennocon, and outside of the whole "this didn't ship as shown" aspect...I often think about if TC2018 and TC2019 Railjack had ACTUALLY shipped as they were in those demos. The way people play this game, i.e. super speedy and fast paced often to a FAULT, those demos would've been TOO slow a Railjack experience than what would've naturally felt like a good fit. Currently, after a full Revisit of Railjack, buffing up your ship's speed and Battle Avionics etc., it can feel like your ship is basically a giant mobile Warframe. Super nimble, nuking whole fleets of fighters with AOE and blasting crew ships with a sniper rifle. THAT feels appropriate. While I would've kinda enjoyed if the ship functioned by turning systems on and off, or diverting power to different functions as in the 2018 demo, I like it better as it is, jumping on different guns on the fly, firing off different weapons and attacks, slingshotting into crewships and at galleons, it keeps the pace MOVING a lot better than if we were on the Enterprise, with everyone sitting still and such. Which says to me that while there may have been many other problems that heavily delayed Railjack, one major problem was implementation. They bit off a giant chunk, it's true, and making it work and feel like it made sense in the game we currently play was a major challenge. It's taken a lot of time since launch to get there, and they still have a long way to go, but I feel like Deadlock Protocol revamping the Corpus Ships, and now an Infested Open World lumping in the Derelict...we could be in for a massive Railjack update not too long from now shipping Corpus and Infested Proximas, the Intrinsic rework, Command tree, hirable ship staff, everything they advertised at 2019's demo. Many of the updates seem to have those things in mind in the background. And with the Requiem words being part of Deimos? Maybe we'll see Liches in Space as well.

The whole helminth system is the most exciting thing I have seen in warframe since focus 2.0 was given to us. Like, even if we only get the most "shitty" abilities from each warframe when we subsume them, an experienced player who has long since abandoned chasing "meta" knows that context matters when it comes to any ability, even the weakest ones. I also love how you can swap out your ultimate with one of said abilities, there are some ults in this game that I don't even really use much, not because I think they're bad, but because they don't fit my playstyle, but I like the rest of a warframe's kit. For example If we actually did get Valkyr's warcry from subsuming them, I would replace exalted blade with it in a heartbeat. That combined with Furious Javelin sounds like an incredibly fun build that turns radial javelin from an okay ability to a top tier one.

you could replace slash dash though, exalted blade is still pretty powerful damage wise. Yeah its not a red crit weapon but the stealth bonus dmg you get from blinded enemies provides you with a +7 to your crit multiplier which is equivalent to red crit

@@King-gv4lg If I replace Slash Dash, I can't make Surging Dash builds, which I find to be way more fun than exalted blade builds. On top of that, slash dash gives full invulnerability to you while you close the distance on enemies, and with shield gating being a thing now that is extremely valuable.

Since you asked about rewards: if they're as "barren" as what we saw, I don't mind that. IF, and that's a big IF, we don't have 3 or 4 different syndicates to max out to get those minimal rewards. I don't want to mine, fish, run bounties, etc for ages for a handful of things half of which is probably mastery fodder. My hope is maybe a single syndicate, some cool lore, a few new pieces of equipment which may or may not be good, and a less confusing way for noobs to get important corrupted mods. That, and interesting and motivating gameplay. I want a replayable boss fight with challenge and fun mechanics, or something to replace "running endless missions" as my default I have some time to just chill in Warframe activity. I don't necessarily want amazing new rewards. In fact, I probably don't. One of the few things I wanted to do every day was raids, which I think worked for me because you could only get 1 reward per day, and allowed you creative freedom in gameplay since there was no time crunch. Either a system like that, or one where rewards are at least as good as other "default" content (decent relic drops, Kuva, etc) but the gameplay is just fun, so I can play it as my "I have some time not to grind but just enjoy myself" mode.

A reward I think would be cool is if we could grow infested zaws and depending on what we feed them and how much it could affect their damage, or even appearance which could be randomly generated another one is we could infect existing zaws causing viral or corrosive damage

Subbed as I agree with a large chunk of your takes here. Yeah, the major takeaway for me is just how much this update saw DE dig into their vast bag of requests from people and finally deliver on them. From the deluxes to the Hydroid Prime Trailer (I really don't care about it, but like you said, other people wanted it and it's great they have it), to more lore and quests, shooting from K-Drives, deeper Warframe customization, the Helminth room getting use, all of it. The Summer Games Fest interview with Geoff Keighly after Tennocon felt like an emphasis in how much the last year or two has taught DE in how being ambitious is a great thing, but not delivering can really hurt. It's going to take time to prove just how much they've learned that lesson, but if the amount of things players have asked for that we're actually getting with HoD is any indication, they've already learned a lot and hopefully even after the pandemic dies down and they get back to the studio, they keep on this track.

Rewatching the stream, there was one fact that i think went under the radar, and that there IS fishing, mining, conservation shops in the Necralisk. You can see them on the map. Apparently the rest of the infested entradi were sleeping during that part of the demo. I'd assume you have to complete the Deimos intro quest to unlock all of its features. I don't mind this being another grind as long as the concepts are new, unique, and interesting. Fortuna completely changed how my amp and operator build works, making space child viable on some parts of the steel path even. And of course, POE just introduced the concept as a whole. What i think HoD is doing is a more focused, smaller open world, with what steve said, procedurally generated cave systems during bounties that change with the 'day/night' cycle.

- Mission Nodes on Deimos are relocated Derelict missions (no more Derelict keys, speculation that Vaults and Corrupted Mods are now on Deimos). Mother gives you Bounties. - There are other characters in Necralisk, they were sleeping during the demo in same kind of "cocoon" like Mother.

I bet the new player experience is going to start them off in the old war with a fully leveled warframe and weapons with the normal upgraded versions of the cracked mods you get at the start. Basically just giving a new players a taste of the power fantasy. Then transition into an updated version of the start of the game we know now. Hopefully it'll give us the option to replay it if it's cool.

Ok soo, one thing that I think is quite a bummer The Necromechs, while confirmed to be modular and personal to each each player, still are "landscape exclusive" Look, I can understand the use of K-Drives and Archwings to be exclusive, it is not something I LIKE (I would love to drive a K-Drive in tilesets like Jupter for example) I can understand why they are exclusives, they are veihcles, used to get to poing A to B. The Necromechs on the other hand, are a whole new tier of power to us, a tier of power that its just not that useful when you think about it, yeah you can bring it to the plains and vallis to fight the grand-bosses or wharever, but because of the meta, most people already dealt with those, there's just no actual rewarding use of it outside Deimos in itself, and even then I don't know if someone will not find a way to bypass that throught some weird meta as well. D.E said that they wanted to distance themselfs from the "content island" problem, but Deimos kinda of bring that same old problem again :T

I feel that while it is disappointing that Mechs are Open World exclusive, I can understand why DE didn't put them in regular mission. The tilesets are usually smaller in height and width. This is due to how different Warframe has become to play over the years. While newer tilesets seem to be bigger, there are still quite a few older ones.

Apologies to break it to you, but with the rewards thing - if you looked on the minimap while they were in the open world, I can remember seeing a conservation and a mask (similar to Nakak's icon) at least, and I think there were a couple more. As a result, unless the map was a placeholder from Cetus, I have a feeling that the hub is going to play out in the same way as the other two.

Passive: Limbo’s rift dodge 1: Equinox’s Metamorphosis 2: Gara’s Splinter Storm 3: Ivara’s Prowl 4: Mesa’s Peacemakers Because the Peacemakers are exhaled weapons, they work in Limbo’s rift but because you’re in the rift you don’t take damage Metamorphosis because you can change between a damage and defense build with ease Splinter storm is just op like you can negate up to 90% of all damage and it works offensively but idk how it’d work in Limbo’s rift And Ivara’s prowl just because you can turn invisible but like I’m open to other third ability options I just think you can’t go wrong with invisibility

My fear is that we will only get the ability that are useless. Swapping Mesa's 1 for Chromas 1. Leaving only the useful agments like shock trooper for exstra damage. DE will then see that we are only using 3 of 4 ability and nerf them to not get augments.

Problem is, if they ripped off those restrictions and gave us ALL the abilities to use, as many times as possible on literally every Warframe, not only would that dilute the hell out of Warframes' unique identities, but the community would then just meta their way through throwing away 99% of the abilities, leaving only the ones that deal broken levels of damage, and land on two to use, encouraging everyone to copy and paste that exact build...THEN causing DE to go, "hmm, how do we solve this without erasing features, ahh, perhaps some nerfs." I'd rather have a slew of subsumed abilities that may not be seen as useful but offer a wide variety of interesting things to add to a variety of different Warframes, then a list packed to the brim with "damage damage damage damage damage damage damage," only for the community to meta blend it down to "the best of the best, second place is the first loser" choices.

@@joshuawalker5332 First of all, you don't know me well, so I'll just say...I guarantee I use a ton of abilities that you and many others deem worthless, so yes, I will get full use of this system regardless of what abilities we're able to teach the Helminth. Second of all, they won't say "hey augments are usable" and then take that away. I get the whole "DE bad, pls no nerf" narrative, but that's not something they'll do. Part of the reason those augments for 1s exist at all is to make them more viable and worth something. There are plenty of frames that could do with a damage buff 1 even if it takes swapping out a mod with the appropriate augment. Lastly, I'll say this...I understand your point about the system being competitive with itself, but here's the thing...you and many others see the "good" abilities as mostly increasing a single stat...damage. That's it. If it's not doing the MOST damage, then it's deemed worthless. So tell me...if DE let us swap in, say, Miasma and Peacemakers, with literally no limits, and every ability that every Frame teaches the Helminth is geared solely toward dealing damage, and the community metas through it and says "just feed it Saryn and Mesa, GG," how is THAT being competitive with itself or offering variety? Answer? It's not. It'd be super boring and even more worthless of a system.

I'm saying what is obarons bad ability I cant find it ,no matter what ability you give of obaron, protea, trinity. You can now put on 2/3 of the frames in the game, so every mesa drops thair 1 for a big aoe heal or a giant CC carpet. Wen you have a mediocre damage ability like say pull you wont put that on high damge frame it worst damage. if a few good powerful ability are mixed in will all the bad 1st and 2ed ability the thair is no choice and we will only see a few ability on every frame. And wen I say "you" I'm kinda talking about myself and the community at large.

Something I'm interested but concerned about: The helminth system thing kind of making some warframes lose their identity. Great for the game and dead abilities, but if everyone's just running around with rhino roar or something for stat boosts it'll be bad... and what about warframes like Equinox where their abilities are so core to them that you really can't give those to any other frame? I'm mildly hyped to say the least but I'm wondering what this will make the future look like.

I'm pretty sure they said that each warframe only had one ability they could donate, so they'll probably pick the safest choice for each ability. Rhino will probably only be able to give his charge, Equinox I'm less sure on but probably just rage or provoke (day form only). Most warframes have one ability that is pretty minor in terms of utility that is pretty safe, and I wouldn't be surprised to see some abilities (like whichever one of Limbo's or Grendel's get picked) have minor tweaks to them when on other frames.

I didn't touch on the mechs because I didn't want to speculate. Honestly I'm not super excited about them because I see it going one of two ways: 1) There's the novelty of piloting a mech but it gets outclassed entirely by any player that's even remotely optimized 2) The mechs are the only way of overcoming some kind of damage immunity or something, forcing players to use them. That's a trend that I'm NOT a fan of.

I'm not a fan of the Helminth being used to "fix dead abilities" as you put it. Game content being poorly designed or just outdated should not be handwaved away. Problems shouldn't be fixed by a band-aid you have to grind potentially hundreds of hours for. That goes for Focus, Arcanes, Augments, and Rivens too.

I totally agree with you, but expecting ground up reworks for every frame with a dead ability while still maintaining a steady flow of content is totally unrealistic for a studio of their size. The unfortunate reality is that the indie nature of the game means that the devs are forced to pick between delivering regular content with band aid fixes or delivering complete content infrequently. It's just the nature of the industry.

They may have started out small, but they employ hundreds of people, are owned by an international publisher, and pull in revenue numbers that make 1st party platform holders blush. They're as indie as something like Rooster Teeth. It's absolutely reasonable to ask that DE keep the products they sell relevant to the consumers they advertise to in their game - or are you asking every player to treat DE as a business to not be trusted and employ a policy of caveat emptor?

Alright, I'll bite. Let's talk this out. If you've got a solution to propose I'm down to give it a listen. I think the comparison to Rooster Teeth is pretty apt, but the only game publishers I've seen pull of THAT level of balance alongside regular content releases are AAA studios that are more akin to the Universal or Disney of the games space. If you've taken a look over Leyou's annual reports for the past few years (and I'm sure you have from the looks of that last comment) they're orders of magnitude lower than the major players - hardly what I'd say would 'make a first party platform holder blush'. With that in mind, I whole-heartedly welcome sources with info to the contrary. Being owned by an international publisher DOES NOT preclude DE from consideration as an indie studio in the same way that a music label releasing content that is distributed via an international distributor doesn't preclude that label from being considered an independent label. As far as I'm aware, Warframe isn't built to cater to any demographic in particular (though it certainly has attracted a target demo) - it's billed as a creative piece with subjective value that management is tasked with monetizing. I'd say that caveat emptor applies in as much as it's a basic principle of the fundamentally capitalist market that Warframe is brought to, does it not? EDIT: To re-emphasize, I get where you're coming from and I WANT both. I want a functioning game AND a steady flow of content. But looking at the numbers I just don't see how it's possible on their budget while still having to report to investors about the game's earnings. On a personal note, the game is art to me and art made for the art dealer is less interesting than art made for art's sake. Playing the "buyers are allowed to want things" card IS valid, but has an entirely different meaning when applied to something as subjective as that.

@@JoeyZero -=- Solutions to managing outdated content -=- One of Warframe's problems has to do with accessibility of the gear you need to make a functional build. Very little essential gear is given to you. Most of it is relegated to RNG drops. I was MR9 when I got my last 90% elemental mod to drop. A friend needed over 30 Jackal runs to get the last Rhino part they needed. The complete lack of structured progression is one of Warframe's biggest problems. I'm not asking DE to force players to go through the game in only one specific way (e.g. you have to pick Excal, then make Rhino, then make Nezha, then ... ) But I am asking them to ensure the player has the 1) tools and 2) information needed to enjoy the game. Warframe is a superbly fun game once you have all the gear and information in the game. Prior to that it's a dreadful slog. The fact that solutions to core problems with the game (e.g. energy management) remain locked off for dozens, even hundreds of hours is something that plays a big role in why band-aids are not acceptable. Band-aids such as rivens, focus, augments, arcanes, and now possibly the hemocyte are 1) obfuscated, and 2) locked behind unreasonable amounts of grind. Having band-aids isn't fundamentally wrong - but having to grind for band-aids is. Something as simple as making sure every Excalibur gets a Rage and Life Strike to let them freely use their ability more. Making it so that Mag's pull tags enemies for assists like Dethcube's Energy Generator to allow the ability to solve Mag's energy problems (instead of only giving energy orbs on kills from pull... which don't happen). Giving Volt passive energy generation from running around to help solve his energy problems. Making sure that the first Kubrow a player makes is hard-coded to be a Sahasa Kubrow (whose dig-precept can help with more energy). Making the Synth set easier to acquire and ensuring new players can get Equilibrium from one of the first 2-3 bosses or quests. Getting rid of flawed mods entirely (they just contribute to the obfuscation problem). Giving drop locations for gear in the codex BEFORE you get the gear. Reducing Simaris standing requirements for the synthesizer widgets to help low MR players. A lot of the problems with the game come from its caustic progression and the obscene grind new players have to sit through without having any good gear or even gear variety. With regards to Warframe reworks, there are very few frames in need of a fundamental rework on the majority of their abilities. Many have band-aids like Augments which can be partially rolled into the base ability and have the new Augment with the remaining effect turned into an Exilus augment instead. An example of this is Rhino's Iron Skin augment allowing him to recast it - the damage and knockback is relatively inconsequential and is not why the augment is used. It's a QoL fix that is locked behind a senseless syndicate grind (standing and sacrifice requirements make them inaccessible to new players). Many of the lacking reworks (e.g. Vauban) can be greatly improved with simple numerical tweaks (e.g. Bastille's Armor buff being changed to last longer, charge faster, or even be changed to a unique damage reduction buff like what other frames have; giving Photon Strike a shield-restoring effect based on enemies hit to make it worth using over Flechette Orb; improving animation speed and cast delays that were introduced). The framework for the final implementation is already there in a lot of cases. The design and balance framework has largely already been assembled. The marginal benefit for the amount of labor required is, in many cases, not very large. Edit: This should be "the marginal benefit for the amount of labor required is, in many cases, quite large". In my defense, it's late where I am. Having every Warframe ability be fun, usable, and worth using without any arcanes, corrupted mods, focus, and augments is a bar that needs to be met. You're right, there is a lot of content in Warframe. It's very difficult, most likely impossible, to adequately address everything in one go. But the first step needs to be that the problem isn't being made worse by ensuring that content from here on out doesn't make existing problems worse. And then a dedicated and continuous effort needs to be made to solve what problems there are, bit by bit. Warframe Revisited did a lot to address problems with the game that players had continuously highlighted over the years. It didn't address all problems. It introduced some new problems of its own. Some of its solutions were very much found wanting. But patches like that, even smaller in scale, absolutely need to be a regular component of the production cycle. Prevention and rebuilding are the two approaches that must and definitely can both be employed by DE to execute on their artistic vision. The goal should be to have everything be up to the same standard as something like Wisp's warframe kit. Doing it all at once is impossible. Maybe achieving this for absolutely everything in the long run is impossible too. But DE can take meaningful and continuous steps towards fixing the problems that already exist and learning from their mistakes to prevent more problems from being created.

@@JoeyZero The limitations of KZbin's comment system means i had to split up the answer into two parts: a discussion on what indie companies are and the role of art in captialism, as well as a short list of possible and realistic fixes along with a general approach to implementing content to contain the problem. I do see 1) lack of structure combined with 2) information obfuscation to be Warframe's biggest drawbacks. While I don't expect all problems to be addressed by the upcoming new player experience rework, I do hope it adds both structure and information. To reiterate, by structure i mean a variety of guaranteed given tools capable of reasonably completing the challenges a player faces. My disagreement with your take on DE being an indie company isn't to be understood as me taking you for a corporate shill. I simply think your critical lens of "art first, product second" is not appropriate for Warframe specifically, and a desire to execute upon the artistic goals does not therefore constitute an indie company in and of itself.

I do miss the glory days though. Also i feel swappable abilites takes the personality out of the frames. Before they felt like weapons specialized to a tenno of old. Especially with frames such as inaros. These feel more game-ified. I awlays felt the orbiter was a mobile home/dropship. This feels like its a mother base to be outfitted with that tech. It breaks my immersion and thus harms my enjoyment. Ive always enjoyed mixing up what frames i play with what abilities i want to use. Now it feels one size fits all. Sure it might be easier to manage but it breaks that personal connection. Excal feels like Excal. And while it might be fun to use other abilities on him it will no longer feel like Excal. And using forma already is a huge timesink. If i don't have a billion blueprints (because i don't) its going to take SOOOOOOOO long to try to set these up.

"Oh this new frame is ass but the ult is cool so you should slap rhino's kit on him" My point is up until this point frames (especially more recent ones) were designed with their abilities to work in conjunction. Ex: saryn 1 strips armor and spreads, her 2 can amplify their ability to spread and her 4 could pop them for burst damage with added infectivity afterwards. Or excals blind+ult combo Hydroids wave letting the puddle move Harrow's 1 fueling his 3 (or was it 2 its been a while) with his 4 protecting his vunrability Inaros' kit takes advantage of his massive health bar Garuda's bloodball Gara's splinterstorm+1+4 Or the entirety of nidus Now de will be able to release kits as rushed as railjack and let the fans patch it themselves.

@@samreddig8819 Every frame will still feel the same. You can only change 1 ability to another ability which is already set (that means you wont be able to equip iron staff on excal or desecrate, most of the time it will just be the first ability). Imo, the system may actually be too insignificant, since if DE just accepts weak abilities, there will be no point of replacing kits with them. If Ash donates shuriken, then I will be more than happy to replace Radial Javelin with it.

i wouldn't calle the cinematic gorgeous as there alot of bad use of lighting and cheaptricks and that random character that is either a spoiler or shity self incert and the grineer look like a massive joke making storm tropers being more treatining
