Greetings #GothMoths
Okay let's just talk about how beautiful this actually is.
+++
My name is Nat and I am a gothic operatic singer, actor and voice artist based in the heart of Kent, England. Music has always played an important part in my life as a musician and I love to use my platform on KZbin to share it in my music reactions.
I work on the basis of a reaction should be just that, you don't get another crack at it! What you see from me is the real deal. I don't pre-screen anything I see or work from tight scripts. I'm completely open, emotive and sensitive with my audience.

The song is from The Hobbit. It's about when the Dragon (Smaug) attacked and drove the dwarves out of their city. The fire mentioned is the dragonfire that devastated the land and population.

Tim Foust’s voice is like fine whiskey, smokey and smooth! I’m convinced he’s got that last name because he made a deal with the devil (like the character in German legend named Faust, which is pronounced the same way)

Oh my sweetheart, you are so lovely, and your comments are based upon training, experience, and your intuitive nature. What is stunning to me about this video is the fact there are only 2 voices, layered in such s brilliant way. The editor deserves props. I would love to see the reaction of Peter Jackson, who is the creative force behind LOR as well as The Hobbit trilogy, to this brilliant interpretation of the dwarves' longing for 'home'. Your reaction to the unparalleled voice of Tim Faust touched my heart. He is brilliant. Your reaction to him was wonderful. More! Give me more Home Free reactions.

I think you're the first I've heard use my word...RICH. I love your word, resonance, too. Those two say it exactly. I never have been able to stop enjoying the voices long enough to determine how many tracks Peter Hollens laid down. He made an entire choir of himself. That said, Tim Foust resonates in my chest. Being we are both from Texas, he's my guy. J.R.R.Tolkein was a god. May his works live forever. This song is incredibly haunting..

Fun fact : The two singers' video were shot in vastly different locations. Peter was in Oregon (where I live... and I kinda recognize the bedrock of his location... Mt Jefferson Wilderness, if I was pressed to make a guess) while Tim was on Grand Cayman island... kind of amazing that they found two backdrops that were somewhat similar.... though you can tell that Tim's locale has a much darker/lush green while Peter has got lichen at his feat. Both scenes were apparently shot on the same day, but thousands of miles apart. (How does Oregon look brighter than Grand Cayman???)

This is a song adapted from a 'song' written by J. R. R. Tolkien in 'The Hobbit' for the Dawrves - which they are supposed to be dressed as. EVERYTHING you hear is VOCAL, performed by either Tim or Peter; that's right, there are NO instruments - that includes the high falsetto note that Peter hits in the background at about 3:30 or so in their vid which is just as incredible as Tim's ending bass note. Peter is well known for his arrangements and multi-layered tracks. Listen again with this in mind and your mind will truly be blown!

Peter Hollens has his own studio and takes a song and layers his voice for each part then combines them together and makes it sound like an entire musical group. He did this for this song as well. Tim Foust is a member of the group Home Free. They do all types of music but are primarily associated with American Country music. He has a tremendous range from a medium tenor to an almost sub bass. They are also an a capella group and he and Peter have done a few songs together and at least one time He accompanied the entire group Home Free on a song I think it was a U2 cover. Peter went to the University of Oregon and helped to start an a capella group there. It’s called On the Rocks. I hope you enjoy this.

Great reaction! You’re not the only reactor who has said they could sleep to this music. As you said they compliment each other so well. So much so, that they have collaborated on more songs - Greensleeves, Bridge over Troubled Water, Sound of Silence and Fire and Rain. Peter is an amazing “a cappella” singer too and is a master of layering. It’s just their two voices on this song. This is from the movie The Hobbit. I feel like these two could be in the picture or Lord of the Rings. Peter also sings with Home Free on Amazing Grace and I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For. Tim has a 5 octave range and can sing tenor as well as bass and everything in between. Peter probably has a 4 octave range himself. Home Free is amazing and you might want to hear more wonderful harmonies from them. Try Helplessly Hoping, How Great Thou Art, I Can’t Outrun You, Yours. Also they have a lot of funny videos too. They’re not afraid to be goofy but always sounding good. You sound like you could at least be a baritone. Keep listening and have a good week! Oh forgot, if you watch the ending again...notice the camera shakes at Tim’s last note.

it is indeed an amazing thing when two voices on either end of the spectrum come together and jive so well. Our new singer is a baritone leaning tenor, while I, the bass player, am a soprano leaning tenor. When we hit harmonies for the first time in practice on Tulsa Time, he went low and I went high intuitively. Surprised me to say the least. Gave me a chill too.

There are very few things in life as wonderful as someone laughing with complete abandonment. So please, never apologise for that! 😍 When you said "music can be like medication", I think you missed it by one letter; meditation. 😉😁 You clearly learned enough in College to recognize the historical relationship between the monks and their use of perfect fifth harmonies in their meditative chants. 👍🏽😎 At the start of the second verse with "The Pines" he (and I) get(s) so much resonance out of that Eb2. It's one of the best moments in the song. 😍🔥 Yes, I'm a Bass too. 😁
