It's unfortunate because Preece despite a rough beginning to this season has improved that 41 by a fair amount since taking over. It may just be a case of poor timing given the Ford talks, Herbst finally coming into his own, and of course Custer winning the Xfinity title/Custer's father being SHR's President I'd personally wait because if not for that penalty, Preece would be 21st versus Berry in 23rd. If it does come down to Preece's departure, I'd call on Wood Brothers to take in another veteran to correct that sinking ship since DiBenedetto left in 2021

There's also no guarantee as to what the charter status is going to be going forward...which also makes laying out that kind of money for a charter a very big risk. Jr. has also said he'd like to go cup racing...but financially it has to be right. I also don't think he'd go cup racing with just one car...he'd probably want to be at least a 2 car team...but not at 80 million for 2 charters...so don't think we'll see Jr. in cup anytime soon.

I agree and there’s legs to Jr. exploring it with Stewart Haas. I believe Eric mentioned right here on his channel a few months ago. There’s also a good chance Stewart moves on entirely and Haas merges with Front Row for a top tier 4 car ford team. RFK expanding, Junior Motorsports, Trackhouse, are all exploring options amongst other teams. I don’t think Berry and Gragson landing at SHR was a coincidence, there’s a ton of familiarity and sponsorship relationships between the 2 teams

I think he's overrated and when his teammates are performing decent in their equipment he is consistently at the back. When they signed him as the relief driver a few years ago and he was running trucks and xfinity it was constantly someone else's fault when he was running good and didn't get a good finish.

No sources, not what I think is likely, but this is what I hope for. SHR and FRM merge this year. Preece is gone as he is the weak link. I've seen some rumors of McDowell going else where so let's say that happens. It leaves a perfect set up for the teams to merge. Berry in the 4 car with SunnyD, Overstock, MINER. Gragson in the 10 witht he Bass Pro brands and Overstock. Briscoe in the 14 with Mahindra, HighPoint, and Rush Truck Centers. And Gilliland in the 38 with possibly Loves if they stay with Front Row or some other sponsors. That's my dream scenariom

I'm right there with you on Allen Bestwick. The old NBC team of Bestwick, Parsons, and Dallenbach was my favorite. Your ranking is solid and you make a good case for everything. I was thinking when you were on Truex that his car was the best on the track at Dover early on until he got that splitter damage, and he still ran close to the front. He could definitely win soon if things go his way, because the speed is there. The SHR situation is strange and interesting. I think it's an easy process of elimination that leaves Preece as the odd man out. I don't know what's going on in there as far as that driver "study group". My best guess is they've already decided and know he might be with the competition before long. Seems weird to not want that car to run better. If they cut two teams loose, then it becomes particularly interesting. Both Berry and Gragson are first-year drivers, so it's hard to stick with both, but also tough to cut them so quickly. Briscoe needs to run better, but he's the foundation of the team right now and has a Cup win. Gragson is running surprisingly well. I say surprisingly because Gragson looked utterly defeated mid way through 2023 before his issue. I didn't expect him to rise to the occasion this year. I think it's too soon to back him if downsizing is in the cards, but if he can really stay consistent and get everything the cars will give him as he has so far, and avoid nonsense, then it's a compelling case. Silly season is going to be a bit different this year.

I’m actually quite excited to see the new broadcast lineup. This is a chance to bring in new, young commentators to prep for when Mike Joy and everyone else eventually retire. Also raises the competition. FOX and NBC have been playing it safe with their broadcasts for some time now. This is Preece's 5th full season. Many people forget that he ran 3 full-time seasons for JTG Daugherty. 5 seasons and not much to show for it. Josh Berry deserves at least another season to see how he adapts, Noah Gragson is fast and getting better, it seems every weekend. Briscoe is a solid road course racer but a midfield driver most of the time.

When I think of Ryan Preece I think of a self-directed survivor-type who is tough and talented. He eschewed a guaranteed ride a while back to pursue a championship run in his late model. He walked away from that horrific crash and never missed a race with bloody-eyed determinism. Maybe he lacks finesse. Whatever happens he will land on his feet.

I mean Preece hasn't done much. Briscoe is very solid and consistent, Gragson has been great recently, Berry is in his first season with the team so if someone has to he kicked out it's definitely Preece.

That sounds like Preece is not engaged in what is happening at the shop. He says that he is there but I am not sure that he is engaged with the other drivers and other teams in the shop. He can be frustrated but what was he not involved? Either his is not a team guy or he is not approachable.
