The brick terraced houses used to be proper 'back to back' dwellings back in the day. They were refurbished 30 odd years ago and alternate rows were demolished to improve the space. Known as 'the brick houses' they featured in the old TV comedy series, 'Brass' about an unscrupulous mill owner, Mr Hardacre, played by Timothy West. His downtrodden workers lived in these houses. Used to live by there in Riverside Drive, lovely spot, especially when the East Lancs steam trains chuff by between Bury and Ramsbottom.

I used to love going to Ramsbottom. I’m a singer based in Carlisle (or at least was until all work was cancelled last March) but used to sing in the British Legion club there (I think on Church St) loved the folks who used to come to see & hear me. Even better, there is quite often steam trains and re-enactment weekends at the lovely little station there.

Looks like a very old property probably well over 100 years old! Much of this type of property in city centres was dubbed 'slums' in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, they were torn down to make way for modern council property! However in the leafy suburbs they were considered 'desirable' properties and command ridiculously high prices for what you actually get, a basically 2 wall house and roof, no front garden and usually a small rear yard, you might get 2 bedrooms upstairs and a very small bathroom, downstairs again just 2 rooms usually, straight into the living room from the front door and a kitchen. Over the years they tend to get patched up and are poorly maintained, especially the rented ones. The steel girder in the roof suggests the original wooden beams have rotted out and been replaced. I've lived in old properties such as these and in my opinion some of them are death traps with poor electrics, leaky or old gas appliances, leaky roofs, damp walls and draughty windows and doors! In ones I've lived in I've experienced leaky gas fires that got condemned by a gas fitter, electrics that were arcing and getting hot which can cause fires. The one I grew up in had no bathroom, just an outside loo, it was pulled down in the 1970s. They are potentially very dangerous properties! 😯🤔

its funny i used to work as a pipefitter/welder how does the explosion blow up the house but supposedly and doesn't effects the neighbouring property's, gas flow is under a bar of pressure about 400 m/b which is under half a bar of pressure your kitchen tap would be around 2-3 bar depending on what floor your kitchen is on how does someone allow themselves to smell gas for that long and not realise, also there would need to be around 40-60% gas in the air to cause an explosion meaning this leak would have had to happen over the course of a few hours, not only that a non return valve is fitted on your gas metre, but if a explosion occurred it wouldn't matter because the explosion would blow through the nrv (non return valve) to stop the flow of fire you would need a flashback arrestor so what actually happened also find it weird how the bbc want to cover this story but not anything else happening these days

@jordan8168
@jordan8168 3 жыл бұрын
@@lewishunt6133 every time i see a "gas explosion" it makes me think because it isn't a normal thing to happen, also nowadays the pipes are pipe in pipe meaning you would have a 15mm pipe carrying the gas inside a 22mm pipe in case there was a leak the gas would be exhausted back into the atmosphere via the pipe in pipe method also a nrv's max working temperature is 70 c so does a explosion cause no heat for the nrv not to fail?

@@551moley lpg isnt used indoors unless your in a place with no gas main also 20mb isnt enough flow for the boiler to operate whered that info come from? If it is 20milibar that makes it worse the leak would have had to occured for a longer period, also i worked on commercial installtions not houses so the systems were alot bigger, yes that is right 20mb for domestic situations meaning as i said the leak would have had to of occurred over a longer period of time
@551moley
@551moley 3 жыл бұрын
@@jordan8168 LPG, normally butane in blue bottles is used all over the UK for portable gas heaters indoors, all domestic gas boilers on mains gas run on 20mb, cookers, gas fires are all 20mb unless your in areas without mains, in which case LPG normally propane is supplied via similar pipework to boilers, cookers and gas fires at 37mb. Numbers quoted are working pressure, standing pressure can be slightly higher. 400mb would be classed as medium pressure and not permitted inside Domestic properties. The explosion limits for methane/natural gas is 5% to 17% in air slightly higher for LPG from memory 7% to 19% in air.

When I saw the title of this video I immediately think of that animated movie called "Despicable Me" because I'm from the States and remember thinking one of the characters on that movie had a great name that was: Silas Ramsbottom. I hadn't an idea it was an actual place partially because I didn't do a SINGLE thing in school right up until the day I walked out of high school got in my Corvette and went home. Now that I'm 49 I know that was a great decision... Lol well at 17 and driving a Corvette I thought I was the dog's huevos... Now I know every day since that day I've realized just how ignorant I am dey by day lol. I've also learned that when people baby kids while they are growing up it does the kids a disservice because they get used to never having to work for what they want and it's a very VERY hard habit to break. So parents out there. Make sure your children work for what you give them.

That's why I won't have a smart meter --it transmits RF (UUHF radio frequency) When my son in law who is engineer specialist on gas problems and gets called to a place (dwelling) for emergency smell of gas ,, first priority is park up,the road away from dwelling , He has to leave mobile phone in vehicle,, (gives off RF) Then approach the dwelling to put "sniffer" through letter box , before commencing Reason the mobile phone is left in vehicle as RF transmitted from phone would/could ignite if gas present. A smart meter gives off RF transmission (UUHF) to transmit data to a server to a server , if gas is present (leak) consequences will happen ,, qualification for fitting Fitting smart meters is not going to give you any experience on other gas related work, all you can do is fit meters, (not plumber certified for gas ) You can-not touch any other gas appliances or pipe work, to get to being a qualified gas engineer takes a lot of hard work & dedication its not something that can-not be done on a one day course, don't even see the point of you doing CMA1 all you need is a Manometer to test for leaks after you have exchanged the meter, unless they want a print out of what you have done. Canada have banned smart meters as homes been burnt to ground ALSO here in UK where BBC won report of www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/injuries-as-gas-explosion-completely-destroys-house-in-leicester_uk_5a2e4dcde4b073789f6b11b6 AND here:- www.thesun.co.uk/money/4112372/bbc-investigates-smart-meters-safety-house-fires/ as radio ham getting my city guilds to obtain licence A class (I speak/communicate with the wrist) I would consider smart meter on electricity but not gas meter , then they say its free but they get their money by increasing Standing charge (on your bill) which is sent to a company that provides the pipe line/meter to your dwelling stay safe - -... ...- - & - - -.. - - -..

Neither product realy appeals. And now another one. I guess it can't be a scam, like the guy says it isn't, because he panned the camera around so we could see plenty of nice boats in a harbour surrounded by skyscrapers from an expensive looking hotel room.
