Autumn camping is my favorite, here in the east Tennessee mountains, briskly cool evenings and nights, warm days, no bugs, fewer visitors. Thank you for sharing, with video, your tent equipment test adventure. Nice to see what it’s like in the New Zealand wilderness…from an old veteran, retired in the US, foothills of the east Tennessee, Smoky Mountain National Park. P.S. Used to live on the south eastern coast of Texas. When bugs got bad, when I found out that I should expect them, I carried a couple of spray cans of insect killer. I sprayed a bigger area than my camp site. It works.

Another great video Cathy! I liked your explanation of using a tarp as a ground cloth versus a ground sheet and how the two work differently. That was good info for less experienced campers. Always appreciate you sharing your experience and knowledge!

Thx. Nice to see green. It’s winter here in the northern Rockies. Loads of snow at least it’s warm 2c today.

No bugs! Another big plus of winter camping! Here in tge Midwestern USA, the running joke is the mosquito is the (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois....insert midwest state of choice) state bird

Nice video and test of gear! I can fully understand your opinion of sandflies. We don't have them here in Sweden but we have lots of mosquitoes and gnats instead. Take care. 🫶

What another great video. You live in such a beautiful country. In the USA we have some irrating pests, the worst for me is mosquitoes. If you kill one, about 1,000 come for the memorial and stay. Ha Ha. Looking forward to your next video and I hope Indie is able to go with you.

I know what you mean about the freshness, when I used to camp in Scotland I used to love sitting by the loch with the wind blowing in my face and listening to the water lapping on the rocks ah heaven👌

Oh good. I’m glad you enjoyed that. On that trip I was tired and in the mood for more soaking in of the environment and less chit chat, so I translated that emotion into the editing of the video.

Oh my goodness real NZ rain. How I have missed that type of weather while living in Qld Australia, it is a beautiful part of the world. The heat here is quite extreme and the humidity is intrusive. Enjoy your video's young lady and such gorgeous surrounds you choose to camp in, cheers travel safely.

Jeez Cathy those sandflies are bigger than aeroplanes 😮, a nice relaxing vlog (well for me anyway) thank you , which was well needed after an awful shift last night, being a Paramedic around this time of year is a tough one at times!! so will be heading to the bush on my next days off for the outdoor therapy to reset the noggin Please give Indie a fond pat and I hope she has a big treat lined up for Christmas ❤❤

Isn't it hilarious how the most tranquil and beautiful places in Nz (fiordland & Catlins & West coast) are inundated with sandflies 😂 Still worth every minute 😊

For the sand flies have you looked at the thermacell, it's rechargeable and you add the pad and hopefully no sand flies.

Great video Cathy. Polycro tent footprint, very light weight and bomb proof, I use it all the time, my tent does have its own footprint but it is around 110 to 150gr compare to 20gr ish, I am so stingy when it comes to weight 😂, can't wait for your next video with Indi, have a nice weekend.

🥴 haha yip that’s my wild morning hair. Now you know why I insist on wearing a cap even when it’s not sunny or even when it’s 9pm or 7am 😎 no way I’m carrying a hairbrush!

It certainly is a bit wet over here, sandflys don't seem to come near me anymore, must be too old and cranky for them....

Can't you get one of those gadgets to put on to stop them, like AB camping has. At least you can stay outside and enjoy nature. 😊

Yes the old thermacell. I have a Flextail tiny repel with thermacell repellent discs so it should do the same job. Wait for it….. I left it at home 😭

I could hear that glass of wine beckoning all the way from Alaska. 🍷Maybe the sandflies were just looking for sand and the color of your leggings fooled them, just sayin'

A nice fun camp out in the wet. Thanks for sharing. I have a couple of questions. Which X-mid tent are you using? I assume the X-mid 1. You use different tarps, what size is the one in this video? I like seeing tarp set ups, but knowing the size of the tarp you use would help me see potential of different sizes.

A "Soggy Bottom", will always make camping a more miserable experience ! Always avoid a "Soggy Bottom", a good quality groundsheet is the ultimate foundation to happiness and dry underwear too.
