A bic lighter is tre sophisticated and you should always carry one. I experimented with quite a few fire steels but found several that work supremely well. It is another thing that is compact, 100% reliable and easy to carry. Zippo make a good one. Zippo lighters are also very nice and oh God so simple, a 100 year old design that just works. The flame on them is massive and quite windproof. The best tinder is just cottonballs you rub in vaseline and put them in an empty pill bottle. The vaseline balls burn extremely well. The stove with the burner off the fuel cartridge is a good idea but I love the liquid fuel stoves. Favourite is the MSR Dragonfly on Shellite and it gives very fine flame control. If you want brute heating power there is the Soto Muka which runs like a bomb on unleaded (don't use unleaded on the Dragonfly). I find that the Muka does my raisin toast in no time whereas the DF doesn't run quite that hot. I use one of those wire camp toasting racks that hold four slices. Raisin toast with butter...very nice. These stoves are also very windproof. Anyway I am commenting as I go through your video. Always enjoy your videos thank you.

You know what would really have made your venison pasta dish? A couple of tablespoons of chilli flakes. If you are partial to chilli, this is the perfect dish to have it with. Love your videos Able. The New Zealand bush looks like God's own country. Thanks for sharing with an old bloke who always dreamed of camping but never did enough of it when I was able to. That was a great spot. You could always come back to the same spot with the rock fire pit already built. The next campers in that spot will already have some firewood already cut. Thanks again, I do appreciate all the work you have to go to get each video prepared for uploading. I look forward to each and every one.

I’ve watched many of your videos now, love em. As a life long camper (all forms), I prefer fair weather camping, unlike you guys, but I must admit I do love the feeling of being safe and cozy in a storm and the “ping” and “pop” of rain or hail on top of a taunt tarp. I have to get a tarp like your with several anchor points along seams and the top. East Coast Canadian.

Love your camping videos, the close ups on the birds were pretty amazing! 😊 When I saw you go down to the creek and get your beer it brought back a memory for me when I used to do canoe trips through Algonquin Park in Northern Ontario with my dad back in the day. We used to put a bag of milk in a plastic container and keep it under the water in the lake so that the milk could keep cold overnight well it did work but the lake water went through the plastic container and through the bag of milk so then the milk tasted like the lake and not refreshing milk...😆🤣😆

I you travelled to another camping dimension with the beers happy day's , regards the stout allthough it never said Russian, heres some jnfo , Russian Imperial Stout, first brewed in England for Emperor Peter the Great of Russia, are higher in alcohol than traditional English Stouts. The best examples are full-bodied, rich, and complex, and will often have flavours and aromas of dried fruit, coffee, and dark chocolate. I would of wacked in a bit of tabasco in your meal The tent looked impressive Thanks for posting 1 I I

Wow, Abel! What a great setup your fire wall cairns stones looks great! Not really a solo camp though. Whole family of wekkas with you 😀How disappointing were those fire lighters? would probs be better of with waterproof matches! Your tent is amazing. Your meal is traditional camping favourite of ours. Meatballs and pasta 🍝 looked absolutely divine! Quick and easy that’s what we have that most times! And what a contrast of colours from last week. So green with all the moss looks magical especially with your fridge/river so close! 😃 the stouts sounded more like cocktails than beers, the fruit one sounded nicer than the marshmallow one. Sounded too sickly! 😀 then you washed them both down with Rum so basically was a cocktail! Really am impressed with the tent. Great for a solo camp indeed! 😊We miss Victoria! Hopefully she’s back with you soon! Not that we don’t love your solo camps! Weve had 2 storms consecutively here Storm Babet and storm Ciaran They were very dangerous and didn’t not need bragging rights by that Scottish bloke. You’re right it’s not a competition it’s BUSHCRAFT and when to know your limits! 😊great vid as always Abel! P.s we all love the orange beanie! Don’t camp without it! 😝
