I would recommend two things. One you already know: rails. The other, you may not have thought of: a hinged door between the pontoons. It could even be lexan, so you can see through it. Sealed and sturdy enough to walk on. Having one in the middle of the boat will keep you from having to lean over the side to grab water for washing or whatever. Also, get a few metal sporks and put them on keyrings. Hang them on whatever thing you always take camping with you, you'll never be without a utensil again.
