It's not that he dead stops and aims. He strafes, and shoots when he's ready. He does this incredibly quick though since he's so good. It's something I try to practice a lot in DM's. I'm not nearly as fast, but it gets so many people because they insta fire and miss while you're moving the majority of the time. A banana taught me this.

It is efficiency of movement. They are doing what you are but more efficiently. Practicing dead stop aiming helps to train yourself to not spaz when you see someone. A lot of times when you aim there is "slop" as in over correction or jittery movement to the target. This also applies to movement. Thus the super clean look when someone has movement very clean. Shroud has both good movement and crazy aim because his whole life has been dedicated to just that

Just because he's a pro it's still just his theory remember. Many pros have conflicting ideas and at the end of the day it's down to a few things. What works for you, and what you specifically train on. If you train to strafe you'll be good at it, if you turret you'll be good at it. Also depends on your roll, your character, the games you played in the past that got you to this point, literally so many little things.

I agree with this, I actually had to unlearn counter strafing because in Valorant you get punished more when you're hit unlike in CS where you get hit you can recover movement faster so counter strafing is advantageous.

That’s not why you counter strafe in CS, lol. You do that because the physics engine is different and you have momentum, so just letting go or stopping doesn’t work. You counter strafe to put your movement error at 0. In Valorant you basically stop as soon as you let go, so counter strafing is not as important, if at all. But he still is moving in between shots and stopping as he’s shooting. Tenz has an idea but it’s not fleshed out

I come from CS, so no matter what I do, I can't help but to counter-strafe lol. However, I use it differently in Valorant. So, I dead-zone in 98% of my fights (more consistent in my opinion), but I do use counter-strafing to clear angles silently (it just feels more comfortable for me rather than pressing & letting go of my strafe keys), and I'll dead-zone if I want to quick peek/pre-fire an angle where the enemy may be. In standard gunfights, I'll start my movement towards the opposite direction of the enemy's bullets, counter-strafe to stop, then dead-zone once my movement starts up again. If you're conflicted between the two, I would personally focus on mastering the dead-zone technique over counter-strafing in this game.

This entire comment section is making me lose braincells. The title isn't even what Tenz is talking about, he's just talking about normal strafing. Counter strafing is the specific technique used in CS where you tap the opposite movement key to stop quicker. That is useless in Valorant because the momentum works differently due to the engine it runs on. I disagree with Tenz's argument against strafing, the actual topic of the video. The majority of players need to rely on a combination of aim and movement to win gunfights. Even in the shroud clips he showed, he's still moving between shots.

Basically what most pros do in the cs 1.6 era, instead of csgo, since valorant also has almost instant decel/accel & rng spray. Watch a couple highlights from the 1.6 era and you'll see how eerily similar the movement patterns are and how different csgo fights look in comparison.

1.6 player here. The movement got fucked since csgo. Too glassy/floaty feeling. Cs 1.5 had better recoil than 1.6. It was a dream because you could actually plan&predict the spray pattern with lots of practice. And your movement in 1.5/1.6 was suuuper important for that crisp aim. I still have 1.6 movement in my head and it screws up my valorant. A handful of 1.6 pros helped create valorant, many ppl dont know... so their 1.6 thinking is baked into valorant. So your point is 100% correct. Watching shrouds clips here reminded me of old CPL clips. Back in the day i was cal-p. Almoooost made cal-i. Those were the days.

Not only shroud, Every cs pro player can do those. On cs your character is kinda slidy or slippery compared to valorant, that's why they gotta counter strafe unlike valorant where you can just stop immediately. So if cs pros come to valorant, They'll be gods.

He is still counter strafing and momentum cancelling, just doing so when appropriate and not doing big side to side movements over and over. You can see him tap to cancel his momentum to initially stop, then shoots, then either move back the other way (and taps again quickly to stop) or crouch sprays. And you can see when he quick peeks angles he is counter strafing, that’s the only appropriate time to counter strafe over momentum canceling. The only difference is that most people do BIG left and right movements, leaving a lot of time between shots and yes makes you harder to hit but makes it impossible for you to shoot as well. Doing tiny strafes like shroud doesn’t sacrifice your aim, but still makes you hard to hit, if anything more so because the enemy can barely tell you’re moving and you escape their crosshair, whereas with big strafes you just get tracked. The key to perfect movement/shrouds movement is minimizing the distance you strafe (which allows your aim to remain easy and intuitive, less moving parts) while still dodging the enemy’s crosshairs.

If there are any experienced folk here, may you guys please help me understand how to get rid of my counter strafe habit but still be able to rest the spray of my gun in game? I’ve been playing this game for about 800 hours in comp and I think one of the reasons why I haven’t got out of plat is because I counter strafe to much , may someone please help.

Go to range put strafe on and eliminate 100 practice your movement by letting your key there while strafing along tthe bot

@enerict4335 Жыл бұрын
So instead of practice using a or d to stop moving, simply let go of the key your currently moving? And from what I understand from the video, try tapping the movement key so that it resets the spray while also giving as much time to shoot back at the bots/enemies?

This has nothing to do with counter strafing though? He's just talking about standing still... Which... Well yeah, you have to stand still to be accurate in tacfps games, that's really basic
@GoodnotGreat88

Shroud CAN full stop because he has insane aim. Hes faster and more accurate that 99.9% of people which means he doesnt need to dodge he just shoots you first. If i play on a smurf I play like shroud too because I am confident ill hit my shot first. When I play on my main, I jiggle, jump, spray, only take fights with util etc. Because a 50/50 is actually a 50/50 at your correct rank. Every 50/50 for shroud is really like 80/20 unless hes playing freaking pros that can hang with his aim.

"Counterstrafing" or pressing the opposite movement key, doesnt actually stop your movement faster, so quickly pressing the opposite direction doesn't "stop" you faster, it only makes you jiggle faster than stopping and going, but if you're just going to stop anyway, just let go

I think with valorant recoil control being easier than CS it makes sense that counter straffing isn’t as viable as it would be in CS.

cs has a consistent spray pattern, valorant has a random spray pattern, that alone is why people spray way more in cs simply because it’s consistent and allows you to actually get better at it.
@James-eq8cq
@James-eq8cq Жыл бұрын
Valorant has a random spray pattern after 10 bullets. Why would you spray more than that? CSGO has a consistent pattern for an entire clip but the variance in initial recoil spread is bigger than Val. You can tell this from recoil patterns to scale
