Hellooo I hope you enjoyed the video and my little experiment with the slow shutter speeds :D Much love to URTH for working with me again, I'm a big fan of their products. You can check out their new filter set here: urth-partnership-program-creator.pxf.io/9g9rvW If you fancy any of their other products you can get 10% off with the code "TEO10". Also big thank you to @DailyVanea for shooting with me, it was really fun to collab and shoot together :) Have a great week!

#2 in the first photo set is stunning! I see nothing messed up about that composition. #1 is my favorite of the second set; the color saturation is lovely. On #4, the focus on the knee is distracting for me. #2 is lovely of the third shot. The rainbow flare is rad on the by-the-cornfield shot. I think the second of the darker shots is better than the third, because there's more detail in the waist area of her clothing. That one wide shot is lovely; I agree that the dress makes it. I think I like the second shot the most of the last group, because her face silhouette looks so delicate and feminine. The silhouette is strong enough compositionally that it overpowers the perhaps awkward middle-of-frame placement. Of the last group of film shots, the "normal" portrait might be my favorite. I agree that the second to last shot, taken on the video camera, is just wonderful. I could take or leave the last, abstract shot, but it could be useful, perhaps. This was an incredibly inspiring video; thank you for making it.

One rule I've heard to keep sharp focus at minimum shutter speeds is keeping the shutter over the focal length of the lens you're using. For example, 1/50 (or more typically 1/60) with a 50mm lens. 1/125 for an 85mm. Harder to do the longer the focal length though But this can be used for the opposite effect though, 1/30 at 50mm to start seeing effects of motion blur

Great, great video! I feel most people associate a slower shutter speed with static shots, but it's such an interessing way to capture movement! I've been toying with it in a short film of mine, even though my camera doesn't record video with extremly slow shutter! Someone already mentioned, but Wong Kar Wai's usage of step printing is simply wonderful! I would also recommend Ashes (2012), a very warm short film by Apichatpong Weerasethakul shot with LomoKino! The slow shutter is so evocative that feels transcendental!

Lovely video Teo, the photos came out quite nicely. Brave of you to use film for shots that are highly unpredictable. I'm hoping to shoot some Wong Kar Wai inspired scenes while in Japan. Using 24fps with a slow shutter around 1/10 to get that sweet sweet blur in some videos.

I love the slow ss experimentation and how honest you are about getting or not getting the shots you want! This inspires me to try panning with slower ss too :) maybe figuring out how to work that in with an xpan? If you're ever in the US (specifically in the PNW), would love to do a photo adventure!

If you're interested, I actually have a tutorial for that editing process on my Patreon (where I generally post more niche/in-depth educational content). Maybe that can help you out :) www.patreon.com/teocrawford

Hey Teo, I really love the look of your behind the scenes cinematography for this shoot. Do you have a go to camera for this vibrant dreamy look? Does it have more to do with the color grading?
@teocrawford
@teocrawford 8 ай бұрын
Thank you!☺️🫶🏼 It has purely to do with the colour grading - cameras are designed to provide you with a neutral look, so that you can then achieve your desired look in post🙌🏼 Fyi: this clips that I think you’re referring to were shot on a Sony A7iii✨

If you are trying to avoid motion blur, what’s the slowest shutter speed you’d use for handheld shooting?
@teocrawford
@teocrawford 11 ай бұрын
I can keep my hands decently still, so when photographing a scene that itself doesn’t include much movement (so no driving cars etc.) I can manage 1/30. But 1/60 is much safer. To be properly safe you might want to choose 1/125. However this is all from the perspective of a 35mm lens. When shooting with a longer lens this changes. A rule of thumb when shooting without any stabilisation is to shoot double your focal length. So with a 100mm lens you’ll be safer shooting at least 1/200🙌🏼
