Thank you so much for being the only reviewer who actually drew properly and showcased its most important part : DRAWING!!! My only question is how does the texture feel? My biggest challenge in digital is the lack of tactile feel that I get with traditional pen, pencil and paper. The glassy and plastic feel kills the joy of drawing for me so it would be really helpful for me to have a display tablet that feels like paper.
@teohontech7141
@teohontech7141 9 ай бұрын
This is a matte textured drawing surface. It's somewhere between actual paper and glossy glass. There are also felt nibs that will provide even more textured feel and those felt nibs are not that expensive. Drawing experience is good.

I’m very tempted to get this tablet. Many people who reviewed it seem to like it. It would be my first drawing tablet with a screen. I’m looking in to tablets because I’m really tempted to start doing digital art as well. I know that a lot of people like using an iPad for their digital art but buying one (+a Apple pen), where I live, would cost almost twice as much as this tablet. And it’s just out of my budget since I also need a new laptop.

Trust me,..don't fall for the cult like love for the iPad. It's a good device, sure,....but 12.9" vs 16" is NO CONTEST. Go with the larger real estate. When you factor in the GUI's of many apps that have space occupied with their toolsets,...you will be thankful you opted for a larger screen. If you want that balance between portability and working space, I think 16" is like the perfect size. Just my opinion though...others will of course vary.

Thanks a lot for showing the offset near the edge of the screen. I had a 13 inch Huion that drove me nuts with cursor accuracy even when I was as much as an inch away from the edge of the screen. I feel like the only thing make me hesitate on buying one of these is the cursor offset when you change the angle you hold the pen at, but it doesn't look massive so that might not be such a big deal in the long term for me.

6:58 the recessed power -----> my wacom mobile studio pro 16 is nuked because the power supply began to short out, as it's so exposed. So even the very light usage it got from me was enough to make it fritz out. The power only works from one very specific angle, and it can't be used as a mobile any more. Well, can't be used at all as the WIn10 got fried due to a software update glitcheroo. Anyway, Wacom said it would cost 1600 to fix (!!!!), so I've been looking for non-wacom tablets, as I'm never giving them another penny. The power insert to protect the weak link is a very encouraging sign. Thanks for the review.

Hi, may I ask if you had to struggle a lot with colour calibration the first time you turned the tablet on? I don't have any specific intrument for colour calibration (I have a wacom cintiq 13hd and it has great colours despite being quite old) so I was wondering if this tablet would make me struggle a lot with colour adjustment or the colours can be easily calibrated manually. Thanks!

I would love to see a direct comparison between the XP-Pen Artist Pro 16 (Gen 2) and the Cintiq 16. In terms of sensation when drawing, but mainly in terms of quality and durability. I know that the Cintiq 16 is inferior in terms of technical specifications, but I'm still considering buying it because I still don't know how long this XPPen will last, but I know that Wacom is reliable in this regard. What do you think?

I am VERY tempted to get this tablet. It will be my first screen tablet so I don't know if I should spend so much money. Another option is the Artist Pro 14 gen 2, the Artist 13.3 Pro is a cheaper option. I do think it will be worth it, I have bought from Xp-pen before, I forgot to update the drivers so I thought it was broken but that's my fault. I'm probably going to put it on my Christmas List. They do have a lot of sales so I might find a better deal later, like New Years. Great review! Do you think that there are better alternatives? The stand might be a problem although other brands like Wacom don't include stands either and that is fine I guess. This review really helped my verdict.

I'm kinda curious about this exact tablet, so thanks for this review. There are actually a good number of things in the box, including the "pen case". This looks super nice, but I already bought a 10" model from XP-pen (Artist 10 Gen 2), so an upgrade from that is far away for me. I feel like XP-pen tablets just need touch support to make it probably even better than Wacom. I'm not familiar with using hotkeys... I prefer using my fingers to use on-screen buttons and zoom in and out.
@teohontech7141
@teohontech7141 Жыл бұрын
Touch will be a bonus feature for sure. But currently there aren't many apps that really utilise touch features the way Procreate does with the many gesture shortcuts that are supported. For most drawing apps on windows, touch just means pan, zoom and rotate. Touch will benefit those who use apps designed for Windows tablets in the first place.

@@YenniVuI can confirm what Teoh said. The 3-in-1 cable seemed to ship as a freebie for the 16” when it first shipped and during the XP-Pen 18th Anniversary Celebration, which was between Aug 16 and Sep 16. I ordered my 16” during this period and I did receive the 3-in-1 cable. The 3-in-1 cable appeared as a freebie on the order page (on XP-Pen’s website) when I order the Artist Pro 16” (2nd Gen). In the USA, I recommend ordering directly from XP-Pen’s website because orders over 50 USD or 100 USD (I forget which) gets you free shipping and no State Tax (whereas if it sells on Amazon you usually will be paying State Tax).

I hope they fixed the connection port from the previous model. I have the previous Artist Pro 16 (the one with the astronalt on the box art), it's been only a year and my screen is artifacting a lot and sometimes doesn't even turn on because I guess the soldering inside the port is giving out. I have to keep messing with the cable until I can see anything, and even then I can still see small colored pixels flashing on the screen. I probably won't but another XP-Pen screen tablet again but I am considering one of their high-end screenless ones because Wacom is too expensive.

To me the question here is: Huion Pro 16 QHD or XPPen Artist Pro 16 Gen 2 or Huion Pro 16 4k? The big advantage of the Huion Pro 16 QHD are the 8 programable buttons. The big advantage of the XPPen Artist Pro 16 Gen 2 is the cable placement (better for holding it while drawing) and the 2560x1600 (instead of the 1440p of the above) and integrated stand. The big advantage of the Huion Pro 16 4k is of course the resolution. The XPPen Artist Pro 16 Gen 2 really seems to be positioned between the Huion Pro 16 QHD and the Huion Pro 16 4k. If it had integrated programmable buttons (nice when holding the tablet), I think it would be a clear winner, especially with its better cable placement and better aspect ratio. EDIT 12/10/23: I bought all three. I decided I'm keeping the Huion Pro 16 4K, and sending back the other two. Ultimately, I liked the form factor of the 4K over the other two, it's much lighter, smaller, and more portable. The 4k is already a little bigger than my Macbook Pro 16 both in height and width (but MUCH lighter and thinner), but the Huion QHD is MUCH longer (and a bit heavier), for those quick keys, make it very difficult to get into any sort of normal laptop bag. The XPPen 16 Gen 2 is quite a lot wider, MUCH thicker, and WAY heavier (like over double the weight), this again makes it very difficult to get into an sort of normal laptop bag. I will say at 16" there really isn't a noticeable difference been the 4k and 2.5k resolutions, in terms of sharpness. So I wouldn't pick the 4k because you want the added resolution, because you won't notice it. I will say if I wanted the tablet to live on my desk, and not be portable, I would 100% go with the XPPend 16 gen 2! It has a much better driver (at least on the Mac, didn't test anything with Windows), more configurations, better control. Also, the pen pressure is night and day better than Huion. I don't think this is 16k vs 8k, as the Huion's activation is not linear at all, and there is no way to adjust that out, whereas the XPPen just has perfect natural progressive activation, it truly is on a completely different level. So if that's important to you, I would say XPPen takes it by miles. XPPen is also better appointed with extras, like you get a nicer case for your stylus, and the stylus feels better made for some reason. They also give you felt tips out of the box. I was worried about finding aftermarket cables for the XPPen, and though it is true not just any USB-C will mechanically connect to the device (because it can't fit in that recess), you can find cables that fit in that hole, or adapters which will adapter cables that won't. In conclusion: Pick the 4k for portability, pick the XPPen if portability isn't important. Pick the Huion QHD if you REALLY want those quick keys, and portability isn't important. If you REALLY need proper natural progressive pressure sensitivity, then XPPen is absolutely the way to go. At least with their Gen 2 products. In totally I've tried three different Huion tablets (16" 4k, 16" QHD, and 24" Plus) and they all have terribly clumpy pressure activation, that you can't truly adjust out. You can make it a little better, but you can't get it to work like you can with XPPen (which does it perfectly).

@teohontech7141 9 ай бұрын
4K is not really that necessary on 16-inch display. And the price premium is high for the extra resolution. So it's between Huion Pro 16 QHD or XPPen Artist Pro 16 Gen 2. I prefer the xppen simply because of the 16:10 aspect ratio, and I personally don't use hotkeys on the display. But xppen has separate shortcut remote included.

@@teohontech7141 with the black friday / cyber monday deals, the 4k Huion ($719) is only $120 premium over the XPPen ($599). Though I think you're probably right that 4k@16" vs 2k@16" is probably not that big of a difference. I hear you about the 16:10 ratio, that's a pretty big deal, but I want actual controls on the device, because if you're holding the device while leaning back etc, having a separate remote is not super useful. You really need a table for that, which you might as well use the keyboard at that point.

Hello Teoh, thank you for this review. I'm currently looking to get my first display tablet... Currently I'm on the fence between the Artist Pro 16 Gen 2, Artist 16 Gen 2 and Artist Pro 14 Gen 2. The price gap between Artist Pro 16 Gen 2 and the other two is a little high for my budget.. While I can wait a little longer until I can afford it, I'm not sure if the specs and performance compared to the cheaper two is worth the wait and money, considering that it'd be my first tablet. On paper, the Artist Pro 14 would be the best of both worlds.. Cheaper than the Pro 16 Gen 2 while also having similar specs, except for the screen size, which I don't mind. However, the Artist Pro 14 is also considerably more expensive than the older Artist 16 Gen 2. I probably won't go wrong with any of these 3, but your insights and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The question I have is: Does 16k pressure resolution matter at all? Back in the day I remember being excited over my Intuos that had 512 pressure levels. Then 1024 was the next big deal, then 2048, then they jumped to 8196 (a 4x jump, and a 16x jump over the 512 that at one time was consider professional performance). At some point you exceed the human threshold to even feel the resolution change, and I'm not sure we didn't pass that a while back.

Hey there! Thanks for these great reviews! They always help a lot. If you dont mind me asking that question (again), but which one do you recommend? The XPPen Artist Pro 16 gen2 or the Kamvas Pro 16 2.5k? I want to get one of those for my wife for christmas, but can't really decide. Is the 16:10 and 16k sensitivity on the XPPen the selling point? I don't quite understand that, since I draw like I built rockets. I dont. My wife works in a small game developer startup as an animator/media designer. She used to draw on Wacom Tablets when she studied, but I'm sorry, those are way to expensive for me.. I read both your reviews and watched both videos but I'm really torn here 😅
@teohontech7141

Both pen displays are very sensitive. 16K in real life is not significantly more sensitive even though the number is 2 times more. So drawing performance for both is quite similar. I prefer the XPPen because of the 16:10 aspect ratio and the cable connect seems more durable. The Huion has hotkeys if you use hotkeys. Anyway, when you're on the keyboard for keyboard shortcuts, hotkeys are not that necessary.

171 nits in 2023 when we have phone with well over 1000 nits is terrible. Why is it that tablets are the last piece of technology to get with the times lmao. We should have 4K with 500 nits minimum on 16" and above display tablets. A simple IPad that runs on a battery can give us 600 nits and high resolution in a 12.9" size.

This pen screen can be run with only a single USB C link to your laptop. The downside of this really nice portabiltiy is just a limited brightness, resolution and the missing touch function.

i wholeheartedly agree bro drawing tablet technology is so shit its crazy. intuos tech has been perfected long ago. these competitors keep dropping the ball and only lure in beginners who dont know better and cant afford shit, and wacom is just so arrogantly priced when they pump out shit quality control but they're the only ones right now with any real brightness specs the cintiq 27 pro and the xencelabs 24. maybe thats why the cintiq has so loud fans because they push they brightness but their design is so poor they need to compensate like that while they charge apple level prices ☠☠☠ive used tablets in 220-250 nits that are 24 inches... uses 3 cables, plugs into a power outlet and thats all it gives u is about a white piece of paper . i guess it feels like a real piece of paper but its just not immersive for digital content. i cant imagine 171 nits lmao that is a lemon im sorry teoh 💀i would send that one back. Teoh did receive an xp pen 24 pro that actually measured nearly 300 nits compared to 250 advertised. it really is just RNG at this price bro

@@lesnacke Strange thing about most of these pen displays is the brightness is usually around 150 - 250 nits in real life, and it's usually under 200 nits.

Kamvas 22 Plus is still a really good pen display by today's standard because visual quality of that screen is really good. So the main difference between these two really comes down to size and resolution, and how much table space you have.
