Not completely worth it now just to see the differences, but if you did play the original, you'd see that it does pay tribute to the old Shattered Time quite a bit. When he did try the sleeping pills there (and friggin shoved the whole bottle down their throats like a maniac), he goes home to find his house set on fire with his mom inside. He technically overdid it on the "soul for a soul" thing and Terankos punished him. Speaking of the original, a long time back, someone compared it to another mod with an infamous reputation (Akane sort of hints at this). At the time, I never played that mod. The original ST was inspired by Corpse Party and Makoto Mobius. Eventually, I did play the mod in questions once I saw I had the files for it (it was taken down a long time ago by the creator), got the gist of it, hated it (although for the only time ever, I lied in my video series as to not make the creator feel bad, since he was apparently dealing with a ton of backlash), and decided to myself "You know what? I accept your challenge, [insert reviewer's name here]." And here we are, three years later. What was once a mod that took like 1 hour to finish with 7 multiple endings, now we have a 5+ hour long mod with a deeper story, features characters that were never in the original (the only characters we ever saw were Natsuki, Amy, and MC; not even the dad, even though I gave our lazy ex-coder the sprites for him), and it's just one straight-shot to the end that not only pays tribute to what came before it (not just the original ST, but it pays tribute to everything from Captive Heart, Wicked Witchcraft, Forlorn Heart, even Akane's Birthday) but also took a few concepts from that infamous mod and did them better. This MC starts off kind of annoying (at least, a number of people said he was super annoying in the original), moody, and just bitter/angry at the world. As the story goes on, though, you kind of see what made him this way, why he's kind of afraid of his own emotions, and hopefully understand how he's gone through a lot on his life. He literally suffers from PTSD after seeing someone who meant more to him that she'd ever known dead in her kitchen. He lost a piece of himself that day, and now he's kind of struggling to live life. He misses Kotonoha, he blames himself because he couldn't "save" her, and he's essentially going through life punishing himself or feeling like he doesn't deserve any kind of redemption. Deep down, though, he's still a good person who wants to redeem himself, but like Terankos even says, now he has a chance to save some another girl from death for reasons he kind of doesn't understand just yet.

@@Dokizoth Ah, all right. I can tell you after revisiting it (and after watching someone stream it), it's more fresh on my mind now. Considering I was still finding "my voice" as a mod writer, the story had a lot left to be desired and a lot of the time, I was there in my head thinking "Why did you do this? Why didn't you do this?" and so on. The choice to have it be a short story with multiple endings came from me and my ex-coder. He wanted to have something with multiple endings... which is how ending 5 of that mod sort of came to be (aka the one ending I DO NOT like and wish I hadn't let him talk me into making). And also how Wicked Witchcraft came to be with 9 different endings. So I wanted to do this some justice, since we don't get to know MC all that well in the story outside of his initial talk with Amy, ending 6 (the confession ending, aka my favorite ending), and the true end where he talks about his family and admits that he loves Natsuki. So some of those story beats are still there in these new time loops (while some like ending 5 got thrown out) , and now we have a linear story where we watch him struggle, learn, and grow from each experience while he's also facing his past and regrets for "failing" Kotonoha. And since Kotonoha became a part of the story, of course I had to have Yuri and her BFF Mio be involved, too (at least, since I write her and Mio as best friends).
