Just listen to his interview with the BBC anchor. You will love his child like smile and extreme modesty and humility. Never to speak ill of others and always ready to reach out to help producers in financial difficulties, he was indeed a human being par excellence. An outstanding example of his compassion is this incident:- Mr.Nagiah was an accomplished producer and character actor in South India during the 1950' 60' and the 70'. During the fag end of his career, his films were not doing well in the box office and he was in a financial mess. During this phase, he was producing a film in Telugu and wanted Rafi sahab to sing 6 ghazals for the film in Telugu. Rafi sahab flew down to Hyderabad to record the songs. When he came to know about the very bad financial status of the producer, he refused to charge a single rupee for the songs he recorded for Mr.Nagiah. Mr. Nagiah's son, in an interview to the daily news paper " The Hindu" two decades ago, had said that he would forever remember the humanely gesture of Rafi sahab with gratitude. That's why Rafi sahab is referred to as "Farishta" by the people who worked with him and crores of his fans throughout the world.

The genius composer of the 1940's and 50's , late S.Mohinder sahab, in an interview to Vividh Bharti , had said that it was Rafi sahab who introduced " Character specific voice modulation " in playback singing for the first time in the world. Rafi sahab used to come up with useful suggestions to improvise the compositions. The melodious composer , late C.Arjun ji had once said that in the song " Paas baitho tabiat bahal jayegi, mouth bhi aa gayi ho toh tal jayegi" , the intro aalap was suggested by Rafi sahab. The genius composer Jaykishan ji ( Shanker Jaykishan) once sang his own composition " Teri pyari pyari surat ko lisi ki Nazar na lage, chashme badhoor " in a public platform. Indeed, he sang very well, but if you compare it with Rafi sahab's version, you will know the value addition done by Rafi sahab, particularly in the antra.Jaykishan ji's version is available in the KZbin. Rafi sahab died in harness. He was a great human being and always reached out to people who needed help, financial or otherwise. He was extremely dedicated to his work. In fact he was rehearsing a Bengali song in his house, the day before he left for the heavenly abode. His fans around the world call him Farishta. The late legendary singer S.P.Balasubhramanyam ji used to address Rafi sahab as " My God, Rafi sahab" . The genius singer Yesudsas ji has told many a time that Rafi sahab was his inspiration to become a playback singer and he always considered Rafi sahab, his idol. Mahendra Kapoor ji, Shabbir Kumar ji, Mohammad Aziz bhai, Anwar bhai, Sonu nigam ji , Udit narayan ji, Jaspal Singh ji, the list is endless. While we welcome all the new generation singers, who are carrying forward the legacy of Rafi sahab, the discerning fan of Rafi sahab knows that it is impossible for any singer to match the talent and repertoire of Rafi sahab, the God of singing. Rafi sahab was and is beyond compare.
