9:20 ''Cultural ideals are always caricatures, they are somehow a kind of necessary shorthand for doing the business of human organization, but they are not true to the complexity to each and every one of us''

Decriminalize God's plant medicines. Also, fight infantilization at every level. Thank you for the great video. There is no one like Terence.

I love Terence. His ideas are great. His observations are on point. Thanks for the upload 👍. I just wish that KZbin wasn't turning into television. Consume consume consume. Ad upon ad. I feel most people came to KZbin to get away from all that. Terence warned of the drug known as television. Even on my adblocker things get through. Forced ads. It's incredible. Any website that is like KZbin will sooner or later be taken over. Oh well.

Jesse, this is the thing I greatly struggle with myself and it feels really daunting to ponder at times. Its a very hard truth to embrace but a peaceful liberation seems to follow. Heraclitus alluded to the innocent statement: all flows, nothing lasts, everything down to the last quark or lepton is in the process of changing into something else.

@@joedavis4150 of course not. I always skip or use ad blocker. My point still stands. The machine is always present. No matter what. Always. I can accept it. I just wonder how many people out there dont know they are a cog in the machine....

The Shaman stands apart because he is connecting with the movements, not the active agents. Energy moves and materialises, Shamans are not bothered about the forms spirit takes. What spirit is being allowed to mix with his people? How can it be treated? This is the news he requires from visitors.

As much I love Terrence, I think he often confuses culture with society. To me at least, culture consists of things like music, art, ways of cooking and dress, whereas it is society that implements rules, ideology and doctrines to follow in order to control its population. As such, I think It's society that Terrence is referring to mostly when he says the word "culture".

Notice how art, music, cuisine and dress could be an expression of particular rules, ideologies and doctrines. When he speaks negatively about culture he often seems to stress the idea that we should not do culture for culture's sake alone. (It is possible to view culture as an organism that tries to survive and preserve itself in a particular form. This may not always be in the best interest of it's participants)

Society and culture are merely the two hands of some larger being. Beingness, however you wanna put it, it’s a process happening in if not a far larger than our scope could imagine, is at least far more nuanced than we can conceive at our current rate of, ah, hand-eye coordination, how well do we the eye work with the hands of creation, or vis versa, you often get interesting thoughts when you reverse equations like that

Society and culture are almost interchangeable -- they essentially both refer to the basic idea of human communion forming any kind of common or standard practice. I think you have a certain image in your mind attached to society that guides your personal interpretation of the word -- which I honestly do too. But Terrence was thinking above the terms of these images. He had a spiritual grasp of language; he rarely misspoke.
