I am a white american 15-year-old guy from North Carolina, the last person you'd expect to be listening to this treasure. A few years ago I was looking for some Japanese songs, as I love Japanese culture, when I stumbled on this video. I was instantly infatuated with her singing and listened to her regularly ever since I heard this song. I even got to know and love her Mandarin and Cantonese songs as well, and also inspiring me to learn all about Taiwan and it's history. All because of one video, which I am so grateful for viewing, I got to learn about this treasure in the music world, unknown in America by people other than the Chinese living here. Thank you! 謝謝。 ありがとうございました!

Its amazing how her voice can bring peoples emotional out i m the type of girl who barely shows any emotion to anything , my friends use to bully me by calling me a robot which i dont really care when i was in school then i dont have any friends when i went to highschool then by the time i went to study medicine in a chinese medical college i had to learn chinese language mandatory since i m studying in china . My chinese teacher force us to listen to songs which she likes the most and made us to write the lyrics to improve our mandarin skills .... luckily I heard teresa tengs song for the first time tian mi mi ... at that time i dont even give a shit about her voice i was doing everything how i use to do like a robot but then 7 years later i was searching for a song whice i had heard about 12 years ago when i was a child before i went to china ...when i finally find the songs after struggling to search because I could only remember the melody it turns out it was teresa tengs song then again just a few months ago i was watching a variety show i found a song which I really like and got full of emotion when i heard the teresa tengs voice for the first time in this song it almost makes me cry ...it seems like all those years of emotion rush into me once even my childhood memories it was such a shocking nostalgic yet a lovely experience for me ...

Teresa Teng is widely regarded as the most influential singer ever in Chinese speaking communities(Taiwan, mainland China, Hong Kong, South East Asia and oversea Chinese communities). She is also a huge star in Japan and has many Japanese hits as well. Teresa is a master of languages. The only person who can speak more languages than her is the Pope! Teresa not only sings and speaks multiple languages, she speaks them like a native speaker - in a colloquial manner. And she works hard to achieve this. This is how people are still connected to her, no matter their nationality.

@Sonny Cannon , Have seen u in other Teresa's video comment. Looks like u're her big fan. 😃👍
This was the third consecutive year that she won the Usen most-requested song award. Her tears are tears of gratitude, happiness, and perhaps also sorrow for the long hard climb she had while becoming successful in Japan. Japan was (is?) a difficult market for non-Japanese, and to succeed there was a big deal. She had a hit there in 1974 with "Airport", but her followups were less successful. Her big comeback was with "Tsugunai" in '84, "Aijin" in '85, and this song in '86.

Teresa Teng was originally from Taiwan, her parents escaped from China to Taiwan. Teresa used to visit military campuses and sang songs to entertain soldiers. Loyalty was the virtual that you can see from her. So far Teresa is still a super star for Taiwanese people. But also Mainland China Chinese also like her songs. There was an idiom, it said: Chinese (Mainland China) listened to Mr Teng Xiao Ping during the day, but they listened to Teresa Teng in the night time.

@sulasno ---Yes, she was crying when she sang this song apparently. Being a professional vocalist, I can tell you I've been moved to tears from emotion while singing a song. She obviously was singing straight from the heart during this performance. She sang it beautifully considering she was singing through tears. Perhaps she was thinking of a current or past lover when singing. In any case, she is genuine.
