Teri DeSario ~ Ain't Nothing Gonna Keep Me From You 1978 Disco Purrfection Version

Teri was so interested in performing that she jumped in to a Renaissance music group band headed by one of her music professors and then effortlessly moved on to folk music. One fateful night during one of those performances, Barry Gibb approached her and with a song that he had written for her and she agreed to record it. "Ain't Nothing..." peaked at #43 pop in the summer of 1978. The clean production style was pure disco pop, with a fast beat along the lines of "You Should Be Dancing" with a much sharper sound. The happy and energetic musical track is in contrast to the serious lyrics of the heartbreak of a failing relationship, something I can relate to today. You know what I mean, keep dancing and smiling to hide the sadness...and in doing that you can't help but get caught up in the happy sound. I don't remember hearing this until I found a bootleg disco megamix and went on the search for this anonymous song and eventually forgot about it. I finally found it in 2004 on a Fire Island disco compilation CD when I visited Palm Springs, CA which the guesthouse had played on their system. Not entirely sold on the direction this took her in, she later ran into old friend Harry Wayne Casey of KC and the Sunshine Band and recorded a hit duet with him "Yes I'm Ready" that peaked at #2. Disenchanted with the pop music machine, she recorded two more albums for Casablanca, the first was released without fanfare and the second was shelved due to the changing musical landscape that was 1980. She went on to become a contemporary Christian artist and then asked for her release from Word and got it once she realized that she was challenging her christian beliefs. Becoming more introspective, she embraced world music. Did you know that she contributed vocals to Chris Carter and Mark Snow's 1996 album "Truth & Light: Music From 'The X-Files"? "Pleasure Train" was remastered and re-released in 2012, without the extended disco versions (damn!) but with extensive notes from all concerned with the original production about the making of the album. Teri now splits her time between Miami and Germany where she sings with The Marschfellows. She still performs with various Christian recording acts today.

The 70's disco scene was absolutely fantastic, just a great time for nightclubs and the excitement of those times as much of the music that was in then which was totally unforgettable, well for me was and it was beautiful to live through these best disco years which were from around mid to late 70's going in to the early 80's...the music today just cannot compare to that time....end of story.

This was the genius of the Gibbs brothers. They were the dance kings of the '70's. Andy learned a lot from his brother Barry and it showed here. I just wished Teri DeSario had collaborated more with the Gibbs brothers. She has to be the most underrated Disco queen of the '70's. Amazing mix.

The first I heard this song I went to a bar in San Francisco in the mid 80’s. The bar only had a had about 10 ppl and this couple was touch dancing by themselves on the dance floor. I love dancing, but not good with touch /couples dancing and was mesmerized. I had just started going out and many were a few years older and have been going out for about 5 years before me. Even in 85/86, I felt I missed an great era when this song was new and being played in the disco often. Much later I wanna when I got more comfortable with dancing, I would get stares and get many compliments. One came from a dancer from the SF Ballet and she said she just loved watching me dance. Never took classes but could pick up a dance after a few tries and tapped into my rhythm.

This is part of the genius of Barry Gibb... In the midst of this so danceable and uplifting tempo and melody, wherein the lyrics and it's meaning is just simply overshadowed by the over-all rev of the music itself, Barry somehow is able to inject such sweet phrases e.g. "...for the miracle of the love we share..." or "heaven and earth, i will move for you baby..." Beauty in words! Now, that is only for the songwriting skill!...How about his: * vocal talent? (at least 5 kinds of vocal styles)? * creation of duets? * selection of the right artist or adapting to the artist for the song his & his brothers will compose for? * multiple harmonizing with himself (overdubs) thus creating The Bee Gees Choir!? Etc... But most importantly. .. Unselfishly teaming up with his equally talented brothers: Robin & Maurice (and dear Andy on the side at one point) to create for the music world to enjoy and appreciate the phenomenon called... the BEE GEES! There will never be a group like this again in the lifetime of our planet earth. Please mark these words!

I remember once hearing this in a small bar club around 84-85 and this couple was touch dancing to this song. I’m a good dancer but never felt comfortable touch dancing or ever learned. Meaning learned the classics. It was really beautiful watching them dance and the only ones on the dance floor bc it was still early.
