Laughably wrong. She clearly is wired wrong. Incoherent, unsure, unfocused, distracted. Even if it is an act it doesn't represent anything to do with wit, timing, and versatility.

after She had a stroke she did a short stand up set at old Largo in Fairfax and told us a story about her and Goldie getting pulled over after smoking a joint. Had us all rolling with old Hollywood stories A set that began quietly with the realization of what had happened to her ended with us all in the palm of her hand. Like she had told us these funny anecdotes over coffee at Canter's or something. I swore that night if I ever got a disability I would keep performing. It took a lot of bravery to do what she did that night, and the payoff was that all of us had a brief joyful window into someone else's life. And we got to see what courage and humor can accomplish. -hey beautiful lady.......Thank You!

Thank you so much for this!!!!!!!! My love for Teri knows no bounds. None. If ever there were a woman in Hollywood that a guy like me would absolutely pine for, it would be Teri Garr. She possesses a level of intelligence, and comedic ability that is truly astonishing; her wit is so quick, it’s actually a little bit frightening. Dave had a lot of guests on over the years. She was the gold standard. No matter the situation, watching her and Dave interact, you had to be constantly on your toes, because you never knew what she was going to say. If you truly paid attention, you were rewarded by her genius. They had this wonderful, relaxed banter, and she was so charming, and self deprecating. It was clear that the two had a genuine affection for each other. But mixed in among the conversation, her words could contain real bite. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. She was completely genuine, and utterly fearless. When MS started to noticeably affect her ability to walk, she continued going on Dave’s show as long as she could. Teri’s gracefulness never ceased to amaze me, and yet when she was presented with one of the greatest challenges any human being could possibly face, she continued on working, and would not let her illness force her from doing what she loved. She is the personification of class, and courage. As beautiful, and ridiculous sexy as she has always been, her humanity was always her greatest asset. I don’t think it was possible to see her interviewed just one time, and not fall completely in love with her. I would wait impatiently for her to be back on Letterman. I couldn’t get enough of her. Teri, should you see this, I love ya. You are in my thoughts and my prayers. I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for all the joy you have brought into my life. You are one of a kind. A very special woman.

I'm posting this comment under the first installment of this collection (rather than the 5th) in order to encourage folks to watch it--and watch all five parts, in as tight a time-frame as you can manage. Set aside time to see #5 when you won't be distracted. I myself finished the final installment a couple of days ago, and it was the culmination one of the most beautiful, devastating and profound documentaries I've ever seen. The way Don has sandwiched these Letterman spots between other media brilliantly frames Garr's Late Night appearances within the context of her skyrocketing rise to fame, her time at the top, the eventual fade of her star and the twilight of her career. More astonishingly, the collection chronicles a complex relationship between Garr and Letterman--professional, personal, passionate, sweet and sour. We see her grow into herself, evolve, struggle to break out of her carefully-constructed shell, and eventually find her own voice even as her body ultimately betrayed her. We see Letterman become infatuated and come to love her, only to have to say goodbye to the dream--the ideal--of Teri Garr and see her as a human being a who, in her frailty, found the strength she always sought. For my money, Giller has made something of a masterpiece here. Set aside some time and give this story the attention it deserves.

@MrGoogster
@MrGoogster 3 жыл бұрын
@@joshportnoy8102 Yeah, Josh, in hindsight I think you're basically right. I may have overstated the depth of what happened between the two of them, maybe projected a little subtext onto the relationship that wasn't really as "there" as it seemed to be. But hell, can you blame me? Especially with two people who seem so uncomfortable in their own skins, unsettled in their personal lives, it's easy to imagine each fantasizing about the greener grass the other represented on the other side of their own personal fence. Still, if you watch the whole thing together, there's no way your mind won't be blown by the human drama of Garr's final appearance. It's just...stunning.

The incident at around 54:00 is exactly why many of us fell in love with her. It seems that when all of the fawning and gratuitous exposure of her by the industry hit her she felt the spectacle over her as a normal person was so unnecessary and embarrassing. It is so human to see tears come to her eyes as she sees all this ridiculous worship of Hollywood and its stars staring her in the face. What a sweet, funny, beautiful and genuinely interesting person! I wish her the best! It was also quite notable how David reacted to her in such a humble, human way. I have always loved Terri Garr when I first saw her in an episode of MASH kissing hawkeye. That was '74, then her career cintinued to grow. I am disheartened she is now disabled unable to do anything at all. I alwas enjoy these bittersweet segments.

Can't believe Teri has left us. So sorry she suffered with health issues, including MS and the effects of an aneurism. Despite it all, she brightened our world.... RIP Terri Garr! We'll all miss you!

You can NOT help but smile when she is on. One of the most beautiful ladies in all of show business. I would take one Teri Garr in exchange for all other female actresses. She is the epitome, in my opinion, of a woman. The thing I love about her is she gave as much as she took when sparring with Dave. And Dave in the early days was no easy interview. Clearly they had a little thing going on, maybe no physical, but they certainly had a mental connection happening. My best wishes for her in her current health issues. Meet them head on Teri, for you can only depend on you.
