I remember when he opened the Night Music show in San Francisco with this one ( a much better version than in this video).The response at the end was silence... and then a long standing ovation. The man really sings with feeling. Thanks Joe.

I usually pick Hometown every time I'm in a bar with an internet jukebox. But I have never been moved by the song like I am with this version. And Big World (which I still have on its wonderful 3 sided vinyl version) will always be one of my favorites.

I do, and you're correct in implying that this is mislabeled. My attempt at the time of titling this was to concisely state that there were 2 songs performed within the entirety of the video.

I love this two songs, especially the solo arrangements and intimate performances of them, but honestly I wish he would vary the songs in his solo performances a bit more - or even better, now that he's with a band again, move in a direction similar to "steppin' out" - a song that Joe has been playing unaccompanied for the past 2 decades. I would LOVE to see "Number Two" erupt into a finale reminiscent of the original. Your thoughts?
@reddbleu153312 жыл бұрын
in concert joe admitted that he stole it from pachelbel, but said he did it unknowingly
@MrGj6215 жыл бұрын
The lack of variation made me skip the last tour. He is a great writer, composer and singer but I can't hear "Is she.." and "Different .." in the same live version for the 20nd time :) Wish he did another tour in the Night and Day II setting. That give a lot more oppurtunities like the ending you were talking about. And then play every song that wasn't in the last 5 tours. That will be a long concert every night.

When I heard this song for the first time, tears were coming out like raindrops in a storm. My dad showed it to me, and it means more than i can ever tell. Thank you Joe Jackson for your amazing talent, i am so glad that you were brave enough to give it to the world, so it can be judged. I Will love it with all my heart. Inez.

this is a fantastic medley. its not often joe sings hometown slowly like this. imo its way better then the fast version. this guy is is so awesome and without a doubt the best songwriter england has ever produced. unbelieveable how underrated he is. ive loved joe since the late 70's and will be going to see him in concert later this year, cant wait.

Listen to Joe's words. They're something that everyone can relate to unlike the other songwriters you mentioned. Every one of his songs tells a story where its of everyday life and not fictional

pachabels canon...yes Joe says that...its not a ripoff that he is trying to pull over on people, its something he purposefully did with the chords.

I saw Joe tonight at the Keswick Theater in Glenside, PA. He did both of these songs, and was amazing,. he was a real, genuine, humble person...not the guy I remember from1985 who used to yell screw you to the audience when they made requests....it was his show, and he let us know it. We didn't care, we loved to yell back at him. Anyway, it was a great concert tonight. Got to hear some old songs, especially rearranged, and to see Graham Maby on bass, where he should be. Joe, I left you my CD with one of your crew, ,,,,No Time for Hate and Other Songs for Schools. if you want to record a song when you are through the northeast tour, we doing more social activist songs and you would sound great with a kids choir behind you. Peace, Annie Lynn

I've been following JJ since 1979 and have pretty much everything he's ever done and seen him a fair few times. I don't like everything he's turned his hand to - but this stuff from the mid-80's is fantastic. To see him at the Hammersmith Odeon playing this stuff in '89 was awesome. Genius.
