Terminator: Salvation is UNDERRATED

Terminator Salvation is ironically one of my favorite Fan-Fiction sequels, especially after I watched Terminator: Dark Fate. While Salvation has gained a bit of resurgence after the latest dumpster-fire, I feel it hasn't gone far enough. Because while I wouldn't say it's a flawless movie, it was a damn good effort that adapted to Terminator 3 and validated it.
Terminator Salvation in my mind will forever be the bold yet doomed attempt to move the series forward, because I genuinely think they did everything in it's power to do that. Even with all the hurdles and controversies standing in it's way, they still did everything to make sure this came out great.

For me in my opinion Terminator Salvation is the true ending saga of the franchise. Genisys was just a restart of cringe & Dark Fate was just a horrible excuse for a cash grab

This was the first film I watched that got me hooked into Terminator in the first place, having my parents just show me Terminator 1 - 3 at the age of five or six and I loved every minute of it! *Terminator Salvation was original, gritty, loud, and it's just heartbreaking how people even today diss this movie, a reason why we may never ever see the Original MCG Cut of the film, which is considered lost.*

What I find brilliant about the beginning is that if you look at the paper Markus was signing, you'd notice Cyberdine was investing in cell research. At first glance you probably will just overlook it, but in reality it answers a bunch of things in the franchise. This cell research was important because it led to creations such as the T800, 1000, X, but mostly the 3000 phase matter virus and 5000.

This movie was beautifully made and well written. A masterpiece in its own class. Salvation meaning deliverance, it make sense to have that title. The movie takes place during John Connor’s rise to power. We still see John has some fears and doubts. He struggles to prove himself to the Resistance. He struggles to gain the trust of his superiors. Everyone doubts him and brings him down. Yet we see as the movie progresses, John truly shows his humanity. He doesn’t let his emotions cloud his judgment. He doesn’t make cold hearted decisions. He blatantly ignores orders from the higher ups to save the humans trapped in Skynet camps. He inspires the human race to fight back. He inspires the Resistance to literally resist, not just Skynet, but the higher ups. His decisions help save lives and bring the Resistance its first victory. He helps humanize the Resistance. I also like how in the movie, he uses various techniques and skills taught by his mother to help the Resistance. He literally starts Tech Com, the military unit that ended Skynet in the future. He and Kate work hard to find Skynet’s weaknesses and exploit them. They’re willing to do whatever it takes to win the war. I also like how we see the origin of Terminator infiltration unites. We not only see the evolution of the Resistance as a whole, but also Skyenet as well. Both sides are using whatever technology is available to try and defeat the other. The humans use primitive technology and struggle to come up with new ways to survive the nuclear holocaust, while Skynet works hard to create new machines and find ways to destroy the Resistance from inside. There’s just so much I love about this movie. It’s a shame it never got sequels. I’d say more, but I don’t know what to say. This movie is definitely a jewel.

I think the biggest problem most people have with Salvation is that they fail to remember that they know something the characters don't. What JC was supposed to become. Hence the, John didn't do anything statements. As you said they never considered that becoming the leader takes time, and proving that you are capable. Command is not just given. It's Earned. 9n thw trailer reveal, dude, did you not warch the T2 teaioer? Yes. They spoiled the reveal regarding the T 800. Same make. Same model. Different mission. Then the Get down, hallway scene. Revealing the fact that the 101 Is the Protector. Sane with him and John on the Fatboy.

It's a bit too late given his age, but I think if they wanted to make Arnold relevant in a future war timeline you could have him play a general who serves as John Connor's mentor. Yeah JC is destined to save the world but it's not explicit how (the future info gives JC an advantage, but not SKYNET's achilles heel) which seems to be what Salvation wants to cover. The reason he looks like the classic T-800 is because SKYNET thought he was impressive enough to use him as a template (there's a book which follows this idea). Arnold can serve as JC's mentor again, but it's under a different context and he gets to have a tragic yet epic death (its Arnie, he'd have to) which paves the way to JC becoming leader

Terminator Salvation is the best script, because they intelligently inversed the basic ingredients of the formula. I can't agree more : most underrated movie in the franchise, and the movie bombing in the box office is not a relfection of its true value

I definitely think that Terminator salvation is a great start on the future war eara on the Terminator franchise. If it was given more of a chance, the movie that comes next would've based on the Skynets plasma weapons instead of getting Genesis, then the 3rd would've been the end where we get the assault on skynet Central to destroy Skynet and Skynet knew they can't win so they send the 3 Terminators to the past and put itself in an endless cycle while the resistance ends up winning and slowly rebuild the world. And if they want to milk out the franchise, Skynet would've made a Sub System that activates in a secret location to continue the war and managing to kill off John Connor and have the children of John finish off what their dad fought for. Now that will be a better trilogy/sequels than having the wibbly wobbly, timey wimey alternated past that we got in Genesis and Dark Fate. I mean look at the Terminator Resistance Game, now imagine that being the ending of the salvation trilogy that gets us into the James Cameron Future war and everything building up to the James Cameron Terminator movies. This is what I see if they continued from salvation, sure Terminator 3 will bee the weakest of the Terminator franchise but it would've had a place in the story that makes sense.

I would've preferd nick stahi and Clare Danes returning as John conner and kate Brewster with an actual cameo from arine as I wanted this movie to have picked up just moments after T3 and not set further on in the timeline and probably seeing John and Kate setting up the resistance and watch the war fully begin. i just couldn't see this film as a proper T4 sequel to rise of the machines without the same actors from T3 danes and stahi where much more stronger in the roles and they belong to them. Christian bale and Bryce Dallas Howard where awful Dallas Howard was like a blank piece of wood and bale just shouting all the time doing his batman which got on my nerves and being emotionless with him and Dallas Howard having no personalities what so ever. And I found this film very slow and boring considering it was meant to be set in the future war very little happens and not much terminator appearances on screen iam sorry but I never liked this movie it just didn't feel like a proper terminator film. This was definitely not the T4 film I wanted. And the one I really what made will unlikely ever happen.

Rise of the machines was pointless. We were never shown the history of the war. Only glimpses of its last days. Meaning, terminator salvation could have been exactly how the war started off. Without the need of rise of the machines. After all, Kyle never tells us, anything more than John Connor led the resistance. So we don’t know how John Conner started off, and as far as we know, salvation, probably had it right, and that Jon Connor started off as just another military figure that built his way up until he became the leader.
