I remember burning incense and smoking to this record late into the night, dreaming of leaving my parents house. Its cool to see these comments and know I was I good company. There was a romantic thread through all these songs that really sparked something in my little teenage group of friends. We had our whole lives ahead of us, but were living this romantic dream life. Painting, hiking in the woods, experimenting, playing, and learning. I wouldn't change it for anything.

I remember whenever they came out with Gish and played a tiny little venue in Nashville, TN. Not many people had caught on to them yet, but I was in love at first listen! That little venue in Nashville where I live was torn down to make a parking lot for the TV Titans football team. I cried because I saw so many incredible bands there over the years, SP, Tool, Henry Rollins, Morphine, Love and Rockets, Beck, Dinosaur Jr, The psychedelic furs,....too many to remember! Smashing Pumpkins reminds me of being young and free...I love them!

A cool smashing pumpkins story. Before I’d heard much from this band, I remember one night watching tv while drunk, and I think the credits to the movie bad words came on while I was 10 percent awake, and this song was perfect. I basically jammed out to it while half conscious. And it wasn’t a few years later that i figured out what movie it was and what credits song it was. All I know it was instantly stuck in my memory

Everything about this album cober screams 90s..marilyn manson used the same camera view in his Sweet Dreams music video, as did Missy Elliot in her Suppa Duppa Fly music video. The 90s was filled with sounds and even camerography techniques unique to the era. I love 70s and 80s music, but I thank God I was a teenager in the 90s. Blockbuster on the weekends, MTV playing music videos, the Attitude era of the WWF, Michael Jordan and the Bulls, and of course the pure magic of the 90s music era. I was lucky to be able to 420 with my boys after soccer practice, drive around listening to Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Beck or the Beastie Boys and The Wu Tang clan, or chill sit back and enjoy Nas and his lyrical magic. Back when even Hip Hop hadn't been so watered down and corrupted by the mainstream music companies in the way it is now. Listening to Smashing Pumpkins bring me back to an era where kids were still outside enjoying everything life had to offer without the poison of technology and civil unrest. Be what it may, I see my kid grow up, and how his generation is being cheated of actually being kids, I dont envy anything from this new generation, not the technology, not the culture, not even being young in this era. Just the thought of going to Blockbuster bring tears to those lucky enough to have experienced it, as redundant as that may sound, its true. Long live the 90s!
@toddf37672 жыл бұрын
well written. I was a gamer back then and not quite old enough for 420, (that came in my later early 20's, I avoided it because my Dad was a pot head and I didn't wanna be moody like him based on a drug) but I use to hit up Blockbuster often to rent the new game of the month, usually Final Fantasy 7 or some other PS1 or N64 game. It was my older brother who was a pumpkin head, and inbetween pizza and pop I'd take a break from my gaming to go hangout for a song or two and my older bro would always be nerding out to some new CD, reading the pamphlet or planning which concert he's going to next with his friends. I too don't envy the youth these days, they totally missed out on some good times. There was so much mystery and imagination we had to do to interpret our favorite artists music. It's funny my bro loved SP and peppers and well a lot of bands, but I was more into Bush X and our lady piece, and it's like his bands kinda aged a lot better then mine. Guess he had great taste in music. As you say ,Long live the 90s!

In an era obsessed with the alternative culture that was coming from punk and classic rock backgrounds, the Pumpkins took a completely different approach and explored psychedelic, almost progressive passages from their 70's peers who for some reason were viewed as uncool in the hip modern world of the 90's. Why would prog and psychedelia ever go out of style is beyond me, but Billy, D'arcy, James and Jimmy sure did a great job at keeping that flag alive. I don't think the other 90's bands (and this is coming from a massive grunge fan) except maybe for Soundgarden came close to this. I love that style. The Pumpkins rule. Grew up with their music because of what my older brother listened to and now as a 25 year old adult living my own life and with a career in music (fell in love so much with the music my brother introduced me to s a kid that I eventually made my way from devoted listener to devoted musician) I can only say that this will forever rank as some of my favorite music of all time. Cheers people.
