Wow I forgot how many nations there are on the map. Some tips and tricks for you, hopefully you’ll see it before your next stream. Don’t use the military priority to lower unrest, it doesn’t help. But increase your militech is super useful so not bad for that. Fixing climate change is next to impossible, I found that I needed to control 99% of earth’s surface and 50 years to start making progress towards fixing it. Every nation you control you’ll want to lower wealth inequality as it fixes 90% of the problems in your countries. Merging nations saves you control point cost. Mega nations are good for controlling but are less efficient with their economic points. Smaller nations will cost you more control point cost, but are more efficient with their investment points. You’ll want to control as much of low earth orbit as possible at some point in the game due to the fact that they are considered interface orbits which lets certain modules give bonuses to your investment priorities. Also building administrative type buildings in LOE will increase your control point cost. If you are going to abandon a nation, pumping it full of public support for your faction is a good passive defense. High rare metal sites and high fissile sites are 1# priority sites, as you can find plenty of water, volatiles and base metals everywhere. Shipyards are better in orbit as if it’s on a planet, ships have to launch off the ground costing fuel. Boost is something you need a lot of throughout the game. Though at times it is less important to focus on it. Boost can be turned into money, and higher tier admin and civilian modules need boost to function as well. Generally the less hostile to the AI factions the less hostile they are to you. Project exodus and humanity first are factions you don’t want to cripple right away as they can draw some alien attention away from you. You will have to use nukes at some point in the play through. Every faction will nuke you if you threaten their capital region in warfare. Extremist factions are more likely to just use them. Warfare is the fasted way to merge nations. You can declare war on a nation you control with no ill effects to you. Build farms everywhere it saves you a lot on upkeep. Having a larger economy will let you build more Mission Control in a region. To merge a nation peacefully, the parent nation, like the USA will need to have a claim on the capital region you want to merge, in this case you need to research a tech to give the USA a claim on Canada, then you must federate both nations together, have executive and consolidated control of both nations, wait a certain time as specified by the game for closer ties to be made, then merge. You’ll need to research a different tech to merge Mexico into the USA so focus on Canada first. Also a big one, the government type of a mega nation is determined by the parent nation. So there’s no point to make Canada have a full democracy bc the new nation will have whatever was the government type of threat USA. Militech will average out between merging nations so be careful as your armies can suddenly drop a tech level. Sorry for the wall of text. I don’t think I said anything too spoilery. Hope it helps and please keep the streams coming!

Boost is not too useful later on. It's only purpose is to be converted into money (and to supplement space resources, but that is a bad case scenario). By building MC in your nations you'll save more money than you could ever gain with boost. I wish boost was more useful. I think habitats should always cost some base amount of boost as upkeep, because there will always be payloads that need to be procured from Earth. Personell, for example. :)
@robertkellerman9526
@robertkellerman9526 5 ай бұрын
@debott4538 Yeah, Turing boost into money is super useful. Stuff gets expensive late game. Plus, admin complexs use 2 boost per building and increase a mine's output by 10%. I'd say that's pretty useful, too. And the civilian complex also use 3 boost and let you get the population of a planetary body to 50k easier so you can build media stations, and hospitals in other parts of the solar system. I suppose I'm not sure by what you mean boost isn't useful later on.
@debott4538

@debott4538 right. And I'm saying it super useful. And you can do both. Plus building MC around mercury helps take away the need to do it on earth for a bit. Plus you eventually get capped on MC and can dump back into boost.

You should be focusing much, much more on mission control, since it's the most important resource in the game. The ultimate goal is to control space, and to do that, you need so. Many. Bases. And accruing more mission control is slow, so you can't just start investing when you're already at the cap or you'll hamstring your progression badly. Basically, once you've set up your first mines, the usefulness of Boost drops to a tiny fraction of what it was before.

Quill, you need to start to focus your people on certain skills if you want any hope in finding and killing the aliens on earth. Don’t just focus on admin points and hope for good orgs. Specialise maybe 1 or 2 people on that (ideally if they only have naturally high persuasion or science type skills) picking up orgs that give extra boost and command points. You want to get an operative with at least 20 investigation to successfully find and keep eyes on an alien; and another operative with at least 20 espionage to have a chance of killing an alien. Loving the stream and someone showing some love to this excellent game.

Paused at 29:39 to wonder one thing: There's global research Electromagnetic Propulsion with estimated completion 27 Nov compared to High Trust Probes estimated 03 Sep (it was 16 Sep). What I am wondering is would EM Propulsion have been better choice? Flight time was over 400 days, so yes, waiting is probably a good idea, but not knowing exactly how much they affect, I'm just wondering here should he have considered or at least check that? (And bloody hell if I get an answer in three minutes I'm... doing nothing, maybe laugh a little.)

Can you eventually build a Dyson sphere in this game?
@debott4538
@debott4538 4 ай бұрын
No. A Dyson Sphere is not feasible within the time-scale that the game represents (i.e. the next few decades). There are a few story- and faction-specific structures that can can be called "wonders" but on a smaller scale. Those are all part of all the factions' victory conditions .

So any mistakes that will come back to haunt him 100 hours from now? Not pursuing tech that allows big conglomerate nations, not building orbital stations? Not spending hours and hours perusing the tech tree before playing? (I mean I love the tech tree in Beyond Earth - the only thing I like about it - but this is to much)..
@kitesumane
@kitesumane 5 ай бұрын
His main two issues are his lack of mission control and his slapdash decision making for projects and technologies in general. He is about two years from when he should start getting ships out so he really needs to start getting his basic ship tech sorted. As for the mission control, it provides funds and research when unused which is why the AI factions are always ahead of you in the early game on the harder difficulties.
@debott4538
@debott4538 5 ай бұрын
Agreed. I think he plays it really well for his first attempt. Honestly impressive. No real mistakes, and some very good moves. As @kitesumane states, long term planning could be better. He's already running out of MC after a couple of bases, when this is the most important resource going forward. But I'm sure he'll realize this soon. Tech is a bit more tricky. It's best practice to focus on certain critical technologies inside the tech tree. But of course you have to know which those are. He's wasting a bit of science on useless tech, while leaving the progression mostly up to the AI which will just choose random stuff. BTW, It feels really weird judging someone play from afar, when the important part of a game is having fun and hopefully learning something new. There just is something about Terra Invicta's complexity that makes it hard to master. There are very few good strategies, and veering off course can quickly sink your game. And losing sucks, which is why strategy and planning is so important in this game.

If you wonder why France and UK joined against Cuba there is a little something called NATO that could be an element of answer :D
@debott4538
@debott4538 5 ай бұрын
Yes. While NATO is not directly modelled in Terra Invicta, the US still starts the campaign in a bilateral alliance with each single IRL NATO member. Upon declaring war, any nation automatically asks for help from all its allies that can contribute to the effort (i.e. has an army and/or nukes). France and UK would gladly join in here, because it has almost no downside for them.
@kittyspam2146

@debott4538

@@kittyspam2146 It's the same in the game. Allies must join defensive wars. For offense (like here) they get asked and can freely choose to not. Here, France and UK did join on their own accords as it was for their benefit.

@debott4538
@debott4538 4 ай бұрын
- when cohesion sits at 5 a nation produces the most science - cohesion reduces unrest - cohesion makes a nation harder to conquer There are other effects, but I think these are the most important. ;)

@@debott4538 Sure, that's what the tool-tip says, but aren't the actual effects *extremely* minor? Except for the tooltip for Unrest, I don't see a breakdown of the numeric impact of Cohesion on anything else.
@debott4538
@debott4538 4 ай бұрын
@@brianlynchehaun7079 You know, I am actually not sure. I found this 2y old reddit post stating for science: "60% efficient at 10 and 0 cohesion, scales linearly to 100% at 5 cohesion (min 0.75, max 1.25)" (Not sure what the min max numbers in brakets mean) Reducing unrest is obviously the most important effect of good cohesion. It is the most effective way keep a nation stable, and having an eye on where the cohesion rest level is, can help greatly to not waste any resources of that nation, either through unrest or through useless unity. I am not sure how great the other effects are, and once more I realize that I know way less about this game that I would like. :)

Am I misunderstanding something, it looks like Quil is having his agents idling a lot or is it just that some mission types end earlier and you still have to wait for the turn to be over? It really feels like if they don't have a symbol on the right of their name, they're just waiting to get another mission
@TrisanaAkmea
@TrisanaAkmea 5 ай бұрын
Its kind of interesting how they do it. Basically, its works in turns. You can assign one mission to an agent per 'turn', which starts at 1 week per turn and turns to 2 weeks per turn after the beginning is over. This is done so that certain missions finish early in the turn, others later. I believe all public campaign missions finish before control point missions, so that if they public campaign finishes as a success, you get the boost from the higher public support when trying to capture the control point. Don't quote me on that, but I believe the numbers do change from that.
@Thanaeon
@Thanaeon 5 ай бұрын
@@TrisanaAkmea This is it exactly. Also, Defend Interests is also a very early action, so if it runs out, you can assign it in the next phase and it will go off before any faction can swoop into try to take your control points. Now, if someone had already assigned a coup or whatever to the country even before the Defend Interests ran out and it happened during the "turn", it would be possible for someone's action to be able to take advantage of the window of opportunity, but I think it's a very unlikely corner case.
