that whole piece on possessions and "sentimental" gear is exactly what i needed to hear today, but not what i was expecting to hear. i'm in a tight spot right now in terms of cash and i've been weighing either grinding out twice the amount of hours at work (i'm a lyft driver) or just selling a few pieces of gear that i don't use as often anymore to pay off some debt. only thing holding me back from selling anything was that exact concept of "aw man but i used that nord all over my first record" or "but that guitar is just too nice to give up". but now i see that i'd rather keep more of my free time open to enjoy life, rather than grasp tightly at a few pieces of gear that i can realistically find again on reverb when the money is right. anyway, thanks terrace. you spoke to my heart today.

I love that the show can still happen via streaming, but it would be cool if the audio could be recorded on both ends and then joined for the final video so we don't have that ugly streaming sound. Especially on a show that talks about audio..lol. Just a thought! Love the show and have been watching for years.

Instead of genres it’s really headed towards the artist name/brand as being the “genre”. When you hear Terrance name you think of certain music. When you hear Kanye name, certain music comes to mind. Etc.

Great interview. Some requests in the future: Rico Love D'Mile (really would love to hear his process in making Silk Sonic's album, Lucky Daye, H.E.R., etc.) Sounwave (All the Kendrick/TDE stuff) Hit-Boy (His streak the past 2-3 years has been amazing) Bryan-Michael Cox (RNB producing legend) Damon Thomas (Underdogs) [Y'all had Harvey and Antonio Dixon on the show, but I'd love to hear Damon speak] Rodney Jerkins (Would love to hear a followup interview from his last appearance) Tim & Bob Oak Felder Danja Babyface Daryl Simmons

Valdez of Crenshaw and Forever With You are two of the best pieces of music around. LOVELY music. I had to come check out Terrace again on Pensado's Place. His episodes and James Fauntleroy & Rance Dopson are my favorites.

Granted this cat has a huge catalog to talk about, not sure I took anything from this talking session. At the end of the day whatever path we take to the final product, is how we get there. I used to think having a huge, big-name catalog was the thing, now, I'm just enjoying music.

Respect to Terrace, However, U don't have to learn to read music to be great.. SEE PRINCE, HENDRIX< both could never read or write music, they were not lazy, they were too busy creating, writing to read.

People call themselves musicians, but get sensitive when people start talking about reading music. Who calls themself a physicist, but doesn't know physics? Who calls themself a chemist, but doesn't know chemistry? You don't have to like it, but it's reality. Music theory is the language of music. If you can't be bothered to learn it, fine. But don't get all in your feelings when some musicians who took the time to learn the basics start talking.

@@FortyNightsMusic people can talk all they want; doesn't mean they are right though. social media gives people mouths and it doesn't mean that what comes out of it, is right for every experience, or the prerequisite when it comes to how music is made, music is expression, and there is a bunch of it out there, at the end of the day, music is music or what you interpret as such. there are a bunch of snobs on social media and they feel they are better than such and such because they have a degree in music and have all this knowledge or whatever the case may be, and before you say something crazy, I played many instruments in middle school and high school and read music, 10 years later after I graduated from high school I was introduced to the music industry, and in the process of that I got my first song on the radio, did I pull that info up when I created my first song no, matter of fact, I didn't grasp all the training I had which included theory, does that mean I am less qualified to call myself a musician no, my path was different as well as others too. When I produce, I create off of a feel and if it sounds right, it is right, musically speaking. music creation doesn't have to be difficult; it doesn't have to be rocket science. there are people right now, children even, who can put a whole song together without having to know all the scales or nothing and guess what the song or songs are great, there are self-taught and enjoy what they love, forget the title, if the music moves the listener they could care less if that person has an extensive musical background.

@@ampstudios If anybody gets sensitive, defensive, or calls people who know how to read music a "snob", it says more about THEM than it says about the people they're talking about. It is REALITY whether people like it or not. If people don't want to take the time and dedicate themselves to MUSIC.. fine! 99% of people making music these days are programmers-- not musicians. AndThat's perfectly fine. But if you not gonna learn MSUIC, then just excuse yourself from the conversation when people start talking about theory. That's all. But you can't have it both ways. People want to do the minimum, and be respected like they've done the most.
