5:40. Pretty crazy that in a year (as of July 2024), the Cotopaxi price went from $140 to $180. That's a 29% increase in just a year. At that rate, I guess you better buy now because it'll be $230 in 2025.

I have and prefer the allpa because of additional pockets. I wrap backpack straps with velcro tightly but have yet to check it in on a flight to test it out. I do wish though the straps could tuck in. Otherwise I absolutely love my cotopaxi

Love my Cotopaxi as well and I use it monthly. I flew with it as a carry-on on American earlier this year with zero issues!

Wish they made a smaller version of this line. Patagonia changed their black hole line, wish I had purchased the 30L when I had the chance. Nice bags for small people is the proverbial needle in a haystack...

I have matching navy and red Black Hole luggage (32l backpack, 100l wheeled duffel, 55l regular duffel, 5 small cubes) that I love but just from this video I can tell the Cotopaxi are better quality lol. Bigger/better zippers and pull tabs, more durable exterior material, more exterior pockets, handles look more comfortable, and then the dirty laundry compartment and area to hide the handles would be the most appealing to me. I'm very happy with mine and will be sticking with them, but I'd definitely be having some buyers remorse if the Cotopaxi were a bit more attractive with safer color schemes and quick release shoulder straps. The Black Hole luggage is great when it's in my hands, but doesn't have enough durability (from a cosmetic standpoint) at the price point imo. No rips after 3 years of moderate use, but every time I check one at the airport they get permanent deep scratches and some of the logo rubs off.

Has Cotopaxi put out a newer version? Because the price difference I'm seeing now is huge compared to 140! And it also packs down in itself now?...
@davewong73683 ай бұрын
Yes, and the shoulder straps are more easily removed now. And it comes with a stuff sack. It's almost as if they came out with these 2024 improvements in response to this review. I agree with you though, that price increase doesn't seem quite justified even with these new features.

For durability - I still like how the Patagonia’s grab handles that go down the side of the bag. I can’t tell where the Cotopaxi handles are sewn to the bag. It looks like they may not go far, which imo could be a weak point. Also the material that the Cotopaxi is made of looks much stiffer than the Patagonia (in a bad way) . I’ve had a 90L black hole for about 7 years and travel with it just about every weekend- havnt noticed any wear/tear. I would love it if it had a wet gear pocket, but I just have a separate bag that I use for dirty laundry and throw that in the bag so not a huge deal. Also not a fan of the colors of the Cotopaxi. I’ve never owned a Cotopaxi, but I can say that Patagonia customer service and warranty service are amazing. I’ve had to use them for broken zippers on very well used puffer jackets.

Thank you for the review. The cotopaxi sounds amazing. I have been using the northface duffel. Always use it when traveling by train or car and never remove the backpackstraps, but always anoyed by the carrieing straps. So cotopaxi sounds like the best option for me.

@one4all8856 ай бұрын
Seems biased here. The black hole being able to pack itself is a good thing because that helps with space when not in use. Why even mention the extra 2 pockets that don't secure anything except the backpack straps, and no way you'd want to use those pockets for other things because those pockets don't completely close. I have a gregory. I prefer using the side pocket for dirty clothes instead of the bottom from the allpa which would easily make the bag look deformed if items aren't evenly distributed and flat. Not really an issue since those compartments aren't usually enough to hold all used clothes. So having a dirty clothes bag is better. But no way I'd want to put shoes in the bottom compartment of the allpa. It would smash my shoes and maybe make it lose its shape.
@jeepzcb095 ай бұрын
So on the Cotopaxi are you saying the bottom “laundry” compartment is technically additional liters? As in the main compartment is 50, and the bottom adds to that?
@Terradrift5 ай бұрын
Good question! But no, the bottom compartment is not additional liters. It expands up into the main compartment, not down and out. Does that help?.
@EvoCarl3 ай бұрын
This is technically too big as carry on for a major airline like EVA Air. 115cm total allowed while this is 121cm. Probably be ok but maybe bit of an oversight as others keep to around or just below the 115.
@Terradrift3 ай бұрын
Most major U.S. airlines count it as a carry-on. But some carriers do make a differentiation between "personal item" and "carry-on." This definitely wouldn't qualify as the former.

Patagonia has changed their duffels a couple of months ago so not apples to apples comparison. I'm biased because I own a lot of Patagonia but even before that there's something about that Cotopaxi Mitch match color thing that is off-putting. It's almost like they just trying too hard to be trendy and gimmicky. I also feel it's like commitment to the Patagonia corporate mission which I think is very very important. That's truly enough to keep me as a customer.
