I bought one of these around the same time you did. My lawn is surrounded by oak trees and the amount of leaves is EPIC. To those saying mulch your leaves, I can't. It would kill my entire lawn. These bags are a time and life saver. I wish they made them 20 years ago.

I agree 100%. I have to clean them multiple times per week in the fall. Mulching the leaves would kill my grass as well. Way too many leaves.

Nice of you to show your steps. We live in a Pine/Maple jungle; unlike you, I run 'till the c'hit sprays out the bottom of the deck. I then fly back to the dump site and unclog the chute, deck and pull out the bag. I have a vintage 33" Snapper w'bagger dedicated to this job only. I bought an extra bagger off CL that has two small bags like yours, but the big single, of the early model, I would guess holds 1.5-2X those little bags, but mine feels like ~30lbs when stuffed. I will make a large pull-behind bag for my KB23ZT for next year. I have the take-off and chute from the Snapper extra set I bought. The metal parts are done but have not had the time to make the bag. It will be all mesh except for the bottom and the bit close to the engine of the ZT. I will add a very long bottom zipper. The ZT is good at clearing the long drive where the trees hang over but the leaves 'snowdrift 'till a big rain comes. It's nice to have both woods and a clean yard. Cheers. Jim

I like bagging and dumping everything I'm the back because doing so I am rebuilding my backyard year by year. The stuff I started dumping has now turned into soil.

I agree! I ended up running through 3 more times in the following weeks. I don't ever want to rake again :)

I'd get a piece of canvas and broad stitch to the bottom of the bag. That way the wear would be on the canvas and not the bag itself. Use a mulching set of blades. I'd also dump some earthworms into the leaf pile and let them help decompose the bug pile of leaves. Nice video.

Dave, great video...very entertaining. As for fall leaves, see if your mower has a mulching set (in the case of my husqvarna tractor, it consists of special mulching blades and a cover for the chute). Benefits are that you are returning nutrients to the soil/grass, and you don't have to dump leaves. There may be a downside, but I don't know of any.

Greg, I'm curious if you maintain a property with as many leaves as Dave does?
@gregorypeterschmidt6204 жыл бұрын
@@THE-APEX dseften, no.. I don't currently. But, I did two houses ago....worse leaf fall than Dave's, in fact. As long as the leaves weren't too damp they would mulch up very well, and the lawn looked great. That past house had a lot of copperheads slinking around also. Removing the leaves entirely via mulching helped keep them away, which was a bonus.

You know what, this sounds like a video idea for this fall :). what I didn't mention in this video, is that the leaves and grass that I have collected over the years have now turned into nice composted soil. It will be amazing soil for our future garden. I am curious to see though if mulching the leaves will make the Grass more healthy. I noticed in my yard the sunny areas have nice grass but the shaded areas have weeds and very little grass.

When you had the trailer setup, it was not consistently inflating the bag. You need to ensure that there’s adequate air velocity through the discharge tube to have efficient locomotion of the leaves, if there’s resistance at the top then it’s going to significantly limit efficiency
@saidtheblueknight3 жыл бұрын
Leaves are good for your lawn. You should make one pass to mulch as much as you can, then make a second pass bagging. This way most of your leaves you leave (no pun intended) in the soil to benefit your turf, and you only have a fraction of the leaves to bag and dispose of. Win win.
@jwb4bb4 жыл бұрын
Trailer might have worked better if the bag was over the shroud instead of directly over the tube. This would widen the opening and allow the leaves to blow farther back into the bag before bunching up around the hitch. Just my 2 cents. Great vid!
@DaveOTech4 жыл бұрын
Either that or if the trailer was a few feet farther away from the tractor. I haven't used the trailer w/ bag since this video. As long as the leaves aren't wet, the bag isn't too difficult to pull when completely full.

Still going to strong. The bottom is dirty but no tears in it. Still plan on using it this fall.

Could also just put a piece of 1/4" plywood on top of the trailer to give you a wider "flatbed" for the bag to rest on.

How long does it take for you to clean your yard like this?
@DaveOTech4 жыл бұрын
If I do this twice a week, I can cover 0.6 acre in about an hour and a half. But if you were to do it once a week during the fall, it would take longer. More leaves means slower speed, and dumping the bag more often. Definitely beats raking.

Why did you replace the blade?
@DaveOTech4 жыл бұрын
I bent a blade a few days prior to recording the video, so I had to replace it before continue. I added it to my collection of bent blades :).
@joycees4 жыл бұрын
DaveOTech I see. I did not know if there was a leaf picking up blade. I debating on spending the extra money on a rider. Picking up the leaves would be an added bonus.

Would this work on your riding mower for cutting grass and stashing the cut grass in the bag. Or does it only work for leaves
@DaveOTech4 жыл бұрын
It probably would work for grass, buy only to about 25% capacity. Grass is much heavier than leaves, so it will become difficult to pull. Dry Leaves are very light, so it can get completely packed with leaves and is still easy to pull.

How much was this bag ?

About $90. There's an Amazon link in the description but you can buy them for less depending on what company they're from.

You are reviewing the leaf bag, why would you waste time showing a blade change? Plus your link is to a bag for stand up mowers
@DaveOTech Жыл бұрын
This was more of a vlog style of review, it's been a couple of years since I made it, the style changed. The link contains multiple items, one of which is the standing bag. The bag in the video is also there.
