My dad used to play and sing this to me when i was a kid and if you think about it has a trippy lullaby feel to it back then i didnt have a clue who syd barrett was. The other day i talked dad into playing this for me on his guitar he is 73 years old and has a hard time remembering where his car keys are but he still knows this song by heart amazing

Syd was basically the first rock star to wear makeup (eyeliner). David Bowie (and Marc Bolan) said Syd was the first one he ever saw wear makeup and said he was a fan of Syd's. Syd was so very unique and groundbreaking.

I suspect the guitar sound has much to do with his Fender Strat (I'm assuming), its pickup settings, and in addition to the direct line output, probably a close mic placed on the guitar itself, to capture the sound of the strumming. It's also double tracked, so there's the unison playing effect, too.

What really intrigues me about Syd Barrett is how he (my assumption) was recording all this stuff by himself, when other musicians or bands much more experienced than him, like the Beatles for example, seemed to rely on others to help them in the studio, while Syd did mostly all by himself? How? And specially about how he came seemingly out of nowhere into this business and was already recording at the same studios the Beatles used? Was he that proficient/visionary on the instruments he played? Wow... it's fascinating

Other members of Pink Floyd have said that without Syd there would have been no Dark Side Of The Moon. It is equally feasible to say that with Syd there definitely would have been no Dark Side Of The Moon. Think about it.
@bolenabo80007 жыл бұрын
ThefightingCelt Hm,interesting point of view sounds a dilemna, dwelling...Well, I'm lots into Floyd these days, haven't bothered myself before with all the backstage and early days stories; I just appreciated the music like I do now , their music from all periods with or without Syd but I started a few days ago by searching their history. As far as I am concerned and guessing a bit out of my search Syd was really a driving force as for Floyd's early days. He came with all these ideas like appearing at Top Of The Pops and made them popular with top chart - catchy tunes and songs and so the band had set a precedent, got a label and had to follow a commercial/success path. They had to write music for charts let's say because of this new interest .. On many interviews I've felt that everyone in the band acknowledges Syd's importance and influence as for his musical talent and psychedelic experiments on guitar and music writting. Yes, like with the band's members that admit what you've written about Dark Side Of The Moon.Even subconsciously the guys were influenced and inspired... That doesn't mean they aren't talented or that they didn't create such a wonderful - ORIGINAL, solemnly inspired - music after Syd's absence..They were all so creative and I loved their creative connection, everyone had sth to give...'Part me if I am wrong, that's my opinion and impression so far..I'd like to discuss it with older - to their music and background story - fans and I am open for any other valuable share of knowledge... Peace ! ✌

@kabeceli8 жыл бұрын

This is wonderful...Syd Barrett like a solo singer is underrated.
