the reference at 8:48 is rather unknown, so i would like to explain it: the pets this guy sells are characters from a youtube horror series called "Petscop", and the "tool" things are weird objects that are mildly prevalent in the series (their job is usually answering questions in obscure ways that help build on the lore a tiny bit). you bought the guardian pet, who is the main character. Marvin and Tiara are also important lore characters, though they don't differ much from the guardian; the difference is only in the heads. the series is really good and seeing my obscure brainrot be referenced in a relatively big terraria mod made my neurons fire up a little

I still like the idea of terraria having a mod similar to Minecraft's the Anomaly, or The One Who Watches, or even the Mimicer. Either one will have various cycles throughout the game, going from merely watching you from just off screen, giving off low audible cues, or footsteps pattering off into the distace, then moving on to hiding behind things in the background, occasionally leering out at you, eventually building up to stalking you in caves or at night, their presence only being given away by a loud, rhythmic heartbeat sound that only grows more erratic as they get closer to you, before "fighting" and killing you, resetting the progress unless you manage to run away for long enough

playthrough looks fun, but you gotta cut out the whole hungry stuff to at least a third -- for people actually paying attention to the video, it takes away from the gameplay also, you could add in small flickers to keep things subtle yet spooky, maybe even with occasional cuts of silence

I like the mod, and honestly i think they could do a lot more with The Man like you did in this video. Not exactly in the vein of him constantly telling you he's hungry, but i'd say more like a mini boss for either pre wall of flesh or post mechanical bosses that you catch glimpses of in the darkness after first using the rusty cowbell, which can be made into a new item to summon him for a fight, which could give an upgraded cowbell.

Seriously though, he did a really good job on the delivery. It can be tough to land that kind of laugh without it sounding forced or harsh. As someone who can only deliver a semi-spooky chortle or a full Maleficent, no in-between, it did my heart good.

The title amuses me, as if Terraria isn't ALREADY a horror game, lol. Seriously though, think about the lore and what you do in the game. All but one Dryad died fighting the Moon Lord, WHO THEY TORE LIMB FROM LIMB, and he was still enough of a threat that he had to be sealed on the moon. His body parts are still running around somehow, each of them a serious threat on their own. It's weird enough fighting a floating eye or brain, and then they grow friggin TEETH. That's to say nothing of going to literal hell and fighting a giant tower of mutilated flesh. An evil cult wants to revive the Moon Lord, so they kidnap the mechanic and force her to build prosthetic body parts, which are even stronger than the originals. Side note: The Dungeon was originally a fortress city. Everyone in it died to a curse and became the hordes of undead you fight inside. You beat the cult leader, only for the ritual to succeed and summon the pillars, which in turn summon the Moon Lord himself when defeated. Every night is a zombie movie, blood moons ramping it up to 11. There is literally an evil biome contaminating the planet, and the enemies from either option are fleshy abominations. There's three main reasons it doesn't actually feel like a horror game most of the time. 1. The artstyle isn't the most conducive to horror. Yeah, some of the bosses and locations are creepy, but it doesn't take long to get over. 2. While Re-Logic did release the full backstory, if you haven't read it then the lore is largely buried in dialogue and environmental clues that most people won't notice at first. 3. The Terrarian is a BEAST. Most horror protagonists are practically helpless against whatever threat they face. A fully decked out Terrarian is much scarier than the monsters. I suppose there's also the fact that longtime players are more than used to it all, so nothing really registers as "scary" after a certain point. It all becomes routine. Hence all the mods that change things up. tl;dr - The game is DARK, we just got used to it.

I kept it on the whole run. When doing modded runs I have it there for a few reasons. 1) to check out weapons or gear I don't necessarily want to use for the run but still want to see what it does 2) as a safety blanket in the event of unforeseen gamebreaking bugs [which actually happened the last time I played Spooky mod] 3) to setup magic storage at the start of the game to make finding new recipes easier and avoid spending lots of time creating a storage system
