Warning: REALLY LONG A lot of the comments here about AI seem to be on the right track, but unable to completely articulate why they disagree with using AI images. I hope that this comment can provide a little more detail to these arguments. I would like to preface this by saying this: Dragoon, I enjoy your content and storytelling style very much, but I do disagree with your usage of AI in your videos (in particular the images; music is a little different for reasons I will explain later). I would also like to say that I am a digital artist and am somewhat biased against AI “art”. I acknowledge my inherent bias but I do believe my argument can stand on its own. Addressing your first point, real human artists contain something that AI does not have: lived experiences. The difference between a human referencing an image and an AI being fed art pieces is that humans have a life outside of their references. Humans have conversations, experiences in multiple senses, and life events that shape the way they create art. A human artist can be inspired by a talk they had with a teacher, or a smell coming from the kitchen at home. This is what makes human art more than simple images: it carries the experiences of the artist whether intentionally or not. The reason why some artists get defensive about their work or believe it to be so important is because it contains a piece of themselves in a way that no AI can replicate in its current state. If AI androids were created that could walk and talk and have lives outside of being image generators, I would consider their creations art. I do not believe that AI is inherently incapable of artistic ability, only that its creations are not art in their current form. In the same vein, I do not consider AI image prompters “artists”. Vaguely influencing the output of a machine and editing away some mistakes is much different than the hours that I have spent directly drawing and painting to create my art. Your next argument relates to how AI images will affect the job market. To this I say that you are partially correct. Some people will value human-created art over AI images and be willing to pay the price. The issue lies with two groups: people who do not understand/care and corporations. Some people simply do not want to pay for art and want to get things for free. I will not share my opinion on whether or not they “deserve” art because that opinion is irrelevant to this discussion. The point is that giving everyone a free option for generating images that are close enough to the original idea is enough for some people to justify using AI images despite how they are sourced. Corporations, as the other opposition to this idea, do not care how their images are sourced. They only care about money. As such, artists that rely on said corporations for salaried jobs such as graphic design, animation, and illustration will be pushed out of those fields and replaced if the company sees fit. I personally believe that AI cannot be used ethically to generate images. Companies have been taking AI images from all over the internet without the consent of the artists and using them to make images. Although some AI tech companies have ventured into the field of music as well, they make sure to source their data from willing record labels and musicians because they fear the retribution of music companies if they do not. The only reason why corporations do not take this same approach to artists is that they know that artists can do little to fight back. I do resent the argument that AI images are simply a process of mechanical and societal evolution. When new technology is made as a tool, it HELPS humans but does not AUTOMATE. Affordable drawing tablets are a tool, better drawing software (like CSP and Krita) is a tool, but AI is only a replacement made for the sole purpose of cheapening the work of artists. Menial jobs such as car manufacturing and delivering mail often provide little satisfaction for those who work them, but art is a fundamental part of the human experience and therefore has no reason to be automated besides plain greed on the part of corporations and those who choose not to spend their money on an artist commission or take the time to develop artistic skill themselves. I would recommend watching Saberspark’s “Is AI RUINING Art?”, Hello Future Me’s “The AI Art Apocalypse”, or Ordinary Things’ “The AI Mind Virus” for a more in-depth exploration of this topic than I can provide in this comments section. Lastly, to the viewer: please like this so Dragoon can see it. We all enjoy his content, and I’m sure those of us who dislike AI generations would appreciate their removal from his videos. I will likely not respond to the replies unless Dragoon himself responds or I feel that it will add to the discussion to explain myself further. The fact that his rapping didn't work is actually really interesting, because it feels like that's the first time it's ever happened. Usually allows him to instantly win/succeed in a Dues Ex Machina.
