I agree. Terraria just has so much to discover. I’ve been playing it for years and still find myself discovering something new. I adored Minecraft as a kid but there’s nothing left to really discover. The caves and cliffs update definitely did help with that but, after a good 10 hours I discovered everything again. And sure, things in Minecraft can generate differently but it doesn’t really do anything for me. It’s just like okay cool I guess. One thing I also really enjoy about Terraria over Minecraft is it gives you a reason to build. In Minecraft you can build incredible things but I’m very extrinsically motivated so without my builds having a real use I get bored. In Terraria I can build a Tavern for the Tavernkeep, or a Wizard tower for the wizard. So it’s nice to have an in game reason to build extra stuff. Finally, I just think Terraria’s has mastered progression. You are always running into something new and as soon as you feel you’re OP and got a handle on things you’re hit with a whole new world in Hardmode. The bosses you encounter are amazing, the bestiary lets you keep track of hundreds of enemies and get some interesting lore. I could go on for forever about Terraria I’m not saying Minecraft is bad, and for many people who are more intrinsically motivated I’m not surprised they prefer Minecraft and it makes sense. But for me personally, Terraria is a one of a kind game.

True, that isn't even including the massive modding community! Playing with mods enhances your experience a thousand tiems over and gives SO MUCH MORE TO EXPLORE! There's so many massive mods, and so much content, so much to discover, it's a new experience and it really gives you something new to discover. Although some of the mods are pretty laggy with the insane details and aesthetics.

I think the real reason Terraria is better is that it has developers so passionate about it that they are still adding updates years after making the "last update" in 2020. In the meantime, Minecraft is owned by a company that barely touches it, and when they do they do shitty mob votes to try to stir up the community instead of just adding all of the ideas. Instead, they focus on making new side games or in-app purchases for Bedrock because it is owned by a corporation that craves more money.

I like the fact that there's such a consequence for not being prepared for the night in your first night in Terraria. I was used to Minecraft where night isn't that dangerous and I didn't know how to build in Terraria and I got killed over and over again by zombies and demon eyes for the whole night. Ever since then on every new world I make a house as quickly as possible.

In Terraria you can create a server for free just by pressing a single button after you purchased the game and play with your friends around the world, In Minecraft you have to run a special client and have white IP address + degree in CS to set everything up or you have to pay for realms subscription monthly in addition to what you paid for the game itself...

How to prove Terraria is better than Minecraft: You can have a remarkably Minecraft-like experience in Terraria by simply ignoring most of the game. Focus on exploring and building, fight only pre-hardmode enemies and bosses, never beat the wall of flesh. Boom, 2D Minecraft for the most part. Youre missing out on what, animal breeding? Farming? You cannot however have a Terraria like experience in Minecraft.

Its an opinion guys, neither is better both have their own merits. That being said, terraria is better. On a more serious note: Minecraft to me is more of a building game and a creative outlet, which I think it does a little better than terraria just because its 3d and easier to get into. Also minecraft multiplayer is super fun, and much better for high player counts (although Terraria still has amazing multiplayer). For most players though, Terraria is just way more fun, and its objectively better because of its content and enjoyment (not saying terraria has to be your favorite, its absolutely fine to have an opinion) Minecraft also really doesn't seem like your type of game Also sorry for the unorganised comment, I wrote this in a really weird way

Terraria debatably has more construction and sandbox capabilities. Since wiring goes through blocks, you don't need to make room for it beyond levers and the mechanisms. There's also been incredible and detailed structures made in terraria using things like hammers, dynasty wood, the heavy workbench and sawmill, the hand of creation, etc. It's debatable that Minecraft is better for building, the biggest advantage it has is being 3D.

Damn pixel art is cute, a lot of blocks to build and stuff, critters and shit, and if you hate the combat you can play just in Journey mode, set difficulty to Classic and just enjoying chill time. Ofc you would need to defeat bosses to progress, but it would be easy anyway (and fun too). While minecraft is too damn ugly with it's blocks. No art in it, just random piles of blocks with 1 or 2 good tracks and that's all LOL.

Terraria builders do some amazing stuff, I'd go as far as to say when it comes to building, if you can get past the 2D limitation, Terraria is a far better experience than Minecraft. From far better inventory management (Hello Mojang? Sort inventory button when?) to being able to paint literally any block in the game with any colour, and having so many more tools within the game ranging from a built in ruler to items that can terraform entire biomes... Plus an extrinsic motivation to build houses for your NPCs, which gives your buildings a purpose and attachment. How awesome would it be if instead of finding villages in Minecraft by walking straight ahead for one or two days until you spot one, you had to build it, cure zombie villagers and having them repopulate your village? It'd introduce a progression element (build a village so you can get trading, instead of raiding them for quick iron and diamonds), it'd allow you to change the world as a result of your own actions (curing the zombified villagers) and it'd create attachment to these villagers, since you had to work to bring them over, and you can't just easily kill them and find another village. Meanwhile the reality is that you just... find them, loot their village and if they get lucky you'll just leave instead of enslaving them for iron golem farms or zombification discount farms. How heroic of you.

I've always been camp terraria since primary school/ secondary school. Minecraft is cool and all but there's so much content in terraria its easy to spend several hundred hours in one world and character and then there's cosmetics and building. Also build options and the soundtrack is banging

I feel like they both just scratch a different itch for me. Minecraft is mindless grinding and surviving in an efficient manner, a calm, comforting experience. Terraria is hellish bossfights and ridiculously fun challenges to overcome, an active and engaging experience. Both are fun.

As someone who enjoys both games, I feel like this entirely misses the point in Minecraft. Terraria is a progression game that excels. Minecraft doesn’t want to be that, it’s a sandbox with some stuff to do IG. The focus is more on building and exploration. It is of course fine to not enjoy Minecraft but I don’t think one is better or worse than the other. More importantly, nether fortresses and warped forests are far from rare.

Minecraft and terraria are different if you know how to really enjoys both In minecraft it's not about defeating the ender dragon, it's about the trace of your existence on your world, like houses, storage systems, barns and also drained ocean monument, or maybe even transforming the end dimension Terraria is 10x better interms of progressions and adventure wise also dang this game had furniture bro. Yes terraria has more upfront content but where Minecraft shines is its sandbox, Minecraft has a shitty final boss and progression because that’s not the point. I (like most people) like a challenge. Minecraft is piss easy, and when you do die in Minecraft, it’s because you died to a creeper you couldn’t see or got knocked into a pit due to something unavoidable. And it’s not just because Minecraft is 3D. Many other 3D games give you at least a little indication of mobs attacking you or where you’re getting hit. I made a giant storage room for tons of items once, and then a creeper I couldn’t see blew up and like thousands of items were on floor that I had to reorganize, some of which disappeared.

Also that’s the thing about Minecraft it’s so easy to know what to do. Let’s take an example I want Luminite, how do I get it, well, first you need to kill the moon lord which happens to be like the hardest boss in a 2d rpg, first destroy the four Celestial Pillars (Solar, Nebula, Vortex, and Stardust) during the Lunar Event, The Lunar Event can be triggered by defeating the Lunatic Cultist, a boss that can be found in the Dungeon after defeating Golem. Once you defeat all celestial pillars ( each one having 20,000 health) only then can you fight the moon lord. And after all that effort, get this, you get 17-25 bars of luminite…………

That is a terrible example. Luminite is LITERALLY one of the last things you are going to get. It’d take me just as long to describe how to craft netherite. Also saying that Minecraft is “easy to know what to do” is sooo wrong. Both games don’t really clue the player on what to do, terraria luckily has the guide npc that can give the player hints on what to accomplish, Minecraft on the other hand? They don’t get jackshit. How are you supposed to know how to build a nether portal or what ender eyes even do?

Very good conclusion at the end. No game is better because they are so different and I play them both on and off depending on the kind of itch im craving. Both games have their flaws and yes Terraria too I guess having 1400 hours makes you see all the small shortcomings. I also think Minecrafts biggest flaw is not having meaningfull progression but im lost to how you could fix the problem while keeping in mind the interests of every type of player for the biggest game ever made

Minecraft and terraria are wildly different sandbox games, and it’s really annoying for people to compare them together. Minecraft is a game about building and discovery. Terraria is all about progression, and the builds people make are usually just pixel art. I also personally don’t like Terraria because of its progression and the constant feeling like you have to do something, which I don’t feel in Minecraft, and I also think it has way to many items so things like updates don’t feel as meaningful. Basically, it’s like comparing Fortnite to legend of Zelda, they have some similar mechanics, but overall have completely different feelings.

You can casually complete minecraft in about an hour and it would be tideous as hell (finding stronghold and fighting dragon is terrible) While terraria is about 30-40 hours and tideous only 20% of a time (grind) Khm, imo

The games aren't similar in the SLIGHTEST. Yeah they are both blocky and have health bars. That's about where the differences stop. Minecraft is a 3d Sandbox with survival mechanics. Terraria is a 2d action adventure rpg. (No survival mechanics. A healthbar just doesn't cut it) Both games do have phenomenal building options. I've seen AMAZING artwork in BOTH games, however Minecraft has a HUGE advantage when it comes to redstone and command blocks allowing you to build LITERAL computers. Yes there is wiring and some cool contraptions in Terraria, but you can't make anything NEARLY as complex as some creations in Minecraft. Overall, I enjoy Terraria more. It feels more engaging to me. Minecraft? Eh. It's lost its charm for me. I understand why people like it. Unfortunately, I'm not very creative when it comes to building, and the survival aspects kinda suck for me (for the same reasons in the video).

One of Minecraft's biggest strengths WAS its simplicity and its pickup and play nature, but ever since the caves and cliffs update (caves and cliffs and nether update aren't what i mean) Mojang have been trying to make the game way more complex and it makes the newer updates worse than the ones on the fucking 360.

Honestly I want a video like this talking about the quality of the weird spiritual "love-child" of the two: Starbound While Minecraft and Terraria are largely different to the point of being mostly incomparable, I can still look at their overall quality and think "Man... Terraria's gotten a lot more love sunken into it lately" Minecraft's just been on a downward spiral with recent updates, and I don't say that as someone who was hyped for Caves and Cliffs and butt-hurt over its split, I say that in observation of how n o t h i n g Minecraft's updates have felt since around then I find that the novelty of a modern update in Minecraft quickly wears off for me because it's either something I don't need to interact with other than possibly for multiplayer (Sniffers, decorational armor trims) or I likely have to go out of my way to check it out (Ancient cities, I've explored and disarmed one and then never really tried to do the same for another) Terraria is just a gift that keeps on giving and bringing me back meanwhile: 1.4.4's melee rework is amazing, Empress of Light is flashy and I still have yet to give her a proper try myself but the fact there's an actual incentive to BE A GOD GAMER against her is great, blah blah literal poop as an item blah... And then there's Starbound, a weird combination of Terraria's 2D format + combat, and Minecraft's "infinite world" idea + its exploration all while having a plot of its own... and kinda failing to do any of these things But it's a weird case to me because it feels like Starbound's dev team (that's probably now non-existent due to allegations with the studio of the team not getting due payment) stopped while they were ahead, and it's actually getting to a point of being better than Minecraft just because Starbound's not getting any worse (nor is it getting better but look at Minecraft's array of one-off things nobody gives much of a shit about anymore)

I think terraria just has more content than minecraft, I mean, let's compare the two games (writing this before I watch the video, don't judge) Minecraft - Craft Tools, find village (optional), go nether, get rods, come back, find stronghold, kill dragon, no more progression at this point, game end Terraria - Craft tools, explore for better items because without them you won't be able to take on the first boss, defeat boss, defeat another boss to get better items, defeat yet another boss to unlock new unique biome and an npc that will grant you new equipment (wire stuff), defeat yet another boss to get a new npc that will unlock some cool items, defeat another boss to unlock much more variety and new items for your world (also make it harder) at this point you have so much stuff to do I will just skip over it because i'd sit here all night, get new gear, defeat new 3 bosses, get yet more gear, defeat another boss, the progression just never ends and it's not like you're gonna do all that at once, there's fishing, side bosses, all of the npcs and "secret npcs" (see mushroom npc), and the uniqueness of items and tools, chainsaws, drills, GUNS, summons, it has so much more variety than minecraft, the only thing it doesn't have is 3rd dimension view

As someone who has 1500-2k hours in MC and 120 hours in terraria, I could certainly NOT agree more. Terraria takes almost 70 hours to complete by going the shortcut way, and to 100% you need like 180 hours i guess, while in minecraft it's like 10 hours to get the best armor and beat ender dragon, and like 30 hours to 100% if you are older than 13

I feel like it’s unfair to compare the two. One if focused on. Building farms to increase efficiency, while the other is focused on bullet hell boss fights. It’s like trying to compare factorio or cookie clicker with tou hou or undertale, they’re just too different to pick just one. Really they aren’t even that similar. They have some enemies that they share, but they don’t look or act the same as they do in the other game, you can make swords out of ore, but unlike minecraft gold is the best ore, you can build with blocks, and that’s really where the similarities end. And even then, those similarities are just common survival crafter game similarities and obviously games of the same genre are going to have some similarities like crafting and building. I mean, you could also argue elden ring is a better game than super mario bros 3 but they’re so different there’s really no reason to compare them. Also if you think I’m biased, if anything I should be biased towards terraria since it is my favorite game and I have over 2000 hours in it. It’s perfectly okay to like one game more than another. I like terraria more than I do Minecraft, but to say one game is better than the other just because to us it’s more fun is kinda messed up to the other community. Especially when both communities have already agreed that both games are equally as good.

Minecraft focuses more on atmosphere and Terraria is more about content and keeping the player constantly busy. You make your own Minecraft experience. In Terraria the game is set for you. If you found Minecraft boring, then you probably like games with a ton of content and a path set for you. Neither are better than the other. They are just different games entirely.

Whilst I agree with the overall statement I feel the points you make in the video lack a bit until the last final statement. I prefer terraria but the points you bring up are just “terraria has so much more” essentially, which it does it’s just the the case you have to bring up of “why does it make it a better game and why does having this much content not ruin the experience”. But I do agree, I feel Minecraft has gone on a steady decline. The simplicity of the state of the game until what 2017 ish (?) was perfect, I think until Microsoft bought out the game it took a nosedive. The game feels unplayable on console with friends, it’s buggy and laggy and barely feels the same. They add too many new features that feel pointless and when I play survival it’s too much to balance. They’ve added so much random stuff that I barely feel the need to go out and search for them. Despite all the new content Minecraft adds, every playthrough I do I stick to the essentials of basic food farms, basic tools and basic wood types etc. Everything else seems either pointless or a track to get. That plus the inventory problem. I remember a time when I used to go mining and get a full inventory from all the stacks of ore I’d collect. Now I spend 5 minutes in a cave and my inventory is clogged from all the random useless blocks and gimmicky materials you find down there. I honestly think terraria is triumphing over Minecraft, they’re expanding on the game in a way that works whilst Minecraft just continues to disappoint and ever year that passes I feel I wana distance myself more and more from it.

as a person who uses APK's to get BOTH game experiences, i can see the differences but using mobile, bedrock/mcpe and the mobile version of terraria i feel like and obviously sense that playing terraria for free is less legal than playing minecraft for free terraria is definitely better and EQUALLY stressing with its in game dangers (god i hate having 3 corruption biomes in my world and then eventually 4 because early hardmode is a lot)
