One thing worth noting is that, especially on harder difficulties, the wall of flesh encounter might become extremely challenging with any of the flails, yoyos or spears, as the hungry deal a lot of damage, and constantly respawn, not allowing you to get close enough to the wall. The starfury can allow you to defeat the wall of flesh without much issues, but might require slightly more effort to make an arena with - melee is actually really strong for the rest of the game but this really is the breaking point at which a lot of people might fail without the proper weapon and playstyle

An additional tip for players, since it's not often mentioned for many builds in general is to consider doing the Old One's Army event. If you're capable, it can give powerful equipment for various classes. For melee users, earning up the coins for the Valhalla set is a good option, as it's strong defence and high HP regeneration is quite useful. Additionally, obtaining the Flying Dragon from Betsy is another powerful weapon that also fires projectiles that go through walls and pierce some enemies. It was even buffed not too long ago, making it a very strong pre-Moon Lord weapon. Additionally, the Valhalla set does increase sentry minion counts and has an additional buff for the Balista line of sentries whenever you take damage. So, if you want a little extra boss damage output, you can bring one along and drop 4 down in a stationary boss fight for some additional DPS (really, having summons in general for any class is handy).

@@Leocaspar KZbin comments about WoF with Melee on Expert had me pretty scared, but going in it was actually pretty easy (fought yesterday on latest update). I had a bunch of potions and didn't even end up using them. I was wondering if they actually made the fight easier. I used Night's Edge and Starfury mostly. I think Starfury was taking so long and not clearly doing damage that I did the bulk of it by approaching and using Night's Edge. I had the Molten Armor, Terraspark boots, Warding on all accessories, and a pretty long bridge, so I was ready for it to be a lot harder than it was. I actually found that I was so much faster and overstimated WoF's speed so much that at one point near the start I had to open my map to see where the heck it was and wait a bit for it to catch up. If I'd been Ranged or Magic that would've been perfect, but I actually couldn't fight it from that far.

For the mech bosses, another option (Which I think is better) is the shadowflame knife with frost armor. You inflict 2 debuffs (Shadowflame and frostbite) for a total of 40 extra dps, and the ricochet is particularly useful against the destroyer and skeletron prime. (The destroyer has 82 segments, and skeletron prime's arms are bunched together, making it easy for the ricocheting knives to hit them) The ricochet can also deal occasional damage to the other eye when fighting the twins.

After getting this video randomly to my recommendations, I remember my melee master mode playthough. Randomly selected what evil i would get, corruption came so i knew what i must do... Sit down and grind that ancient shadow armor for easy time in early pre-hardmode. After many hours, getting full set i get my weapons of choice, i got slime rain and faced my first boss and it went down easily when you got good gear what you grinded for hours. Didn't get so lucky with eoc when that bastard didn't spawn more matter what, so i just made godlin battle standard and launched goblin invasion for gold sucking tinkerer. While goblin invasion went really long to night, eoc spawned naturally and im only done 51% of invasion. Fun time With sheer luck i bested both eoc and goblin invasion, while looking that hp is 11, heavy sweating there. Sometimes randomness gives you best gaming experience

If you don't mind looking at map editor, try to find the Enchanted Sword early game. It's in a cave shaped like a crescent with an altar of sword in stone. The cave usually near the surface so it won't be too hard to find. It's one of the earliest melee weapon with ranged projectile and does better damage than about half of all pre-hardmode melee weapons.

If you have any trouble with golem, I recommend getting on ground level with golem, and taking out the hands with the death sickle, if you can, do the same with the core If you have trouble with the martian saucer, try your best to hover above it with your wings when it uses its laser and use the death sickle on any part of it, as soon as it starts attacking with any other moves,glide away and dodge its attacks I had done these with a legendary death sickle so reforge it if you can

For the Eow (Eater Of Worlds) If you have gold/platinum armor ) and 2 minecarts and a hammer you can hammer both of the minecarts to the bouncy minecarts and then you summon the eow the minecart will do absurd damage to the eow and the gold/platinum armor along from the hearts dropped from the eow segments should make you kill it pretty fast with barely any prep. Pro tips from a melee main! 1. Don't forget to deal with the queen bee sometime between the world evil boss and skeletron. The flasks you can make after aquiring the witch doctor are invaluable, thanks to applying bonus status conditions 2. No, you cannot facetank most bosses with on-tier armor. Use your mobility, folks! E. Your most effective damage with things like swords/flails/spears is very close to the target, but feel free to back off and heal. Again, it's a melee class, not a wall If I think of anymore, I'll leave the below. Hope it helps!

Actually, you can cheese the Martian saucer. Just build a box that is about 10 wide and 6 high with an opening at the top to be able to get out of the box. His lasers and missles will not hurt you in the box. When he does the big laser attack that penetrates blocks, fly up through the hole and go above him to avoid the attack, then drop down when done. Damage can be done to him during this process

I actually always go for the grappling hook of the jungle, the Ivy Whip. It has 3 arms and is easy to craft. No other grappling seems to be as good as that, although some have some interesting gimmicks, for example the Anti-Gravity Hook or the one that teleports you. The teleporting one is a Queen Slime drop though, so that‘s in hardmode. The AGH as well, but that’s from the Martians. The Eye of Cthulu is actually easy to beat, you just need a bow or another ranged weapon. For the Eater Of Worlds, I actually recommend a weapon that DOESN‘T debuff the enemy. I hate it when the pieces get killed when it goes through walls. If you already have a Muramasa from dungeon chests or another autoswing weapon, use it. Speaking of which…Why does the eye also drop Demonite Ore when you only get the scales from the Eater? It has been like that from the first version, but it never made a lot of sense. You NEED scales for the pickaxe and you NEED the Shadow Pickaxe for Hellstone Ore.

Would suggest the death sickle from reapers in the solar eclipse after mech bosses directly. It pierces blocks, lingers, and is a direct upgrade to the ice sickle. the lingering particle makes for great dps and usability against bosses. as for the temple, just hoik into it.

fun fact! houses need to be 5 blocks tall by 10 blocks wide. when i learned this last night, i started my playthrough by having the bottom of my base be all my chests and crafting, and having “floors” with one npc on each side so i don’t have to give them doors that they will let monsters in through

Starfury is my choice for Wall of Flesh on Expert. The hungries respawn too fast and tank the damage for WoF and that makes it more tedious, if not difficult. An option to hit it from far away with a fast weapon is god sent.
