See, this is why I'll always love 2D graphics, whether the drawn-looking style of Don't Starve or the pixelart style of Terraria, over 3D art of any quality. I don't care about near-lifelike graphics; the meat computer in my head can fill in those details. I care about what looks good, what's simple to implement, and the versatility of it. Making mods for these kinds of games is much simpler than making a 3D mesh, making textures, getting the clipping problems hammered out, worrying about skeletons, ect.
