I've been watching her acting performances, particularly the two episodes of Lou Grant. She was 19 and she carried both episodes. She absolutely could have made it a career.

You can see how comfortable and relaxed Harrison Ford had become after all those auditions. At this point, it's easy to see, HE IS Han Solo. Teri Nunn is very good, too. After the test, you heard George Lucas say "great, terrific." And it was.

That was when the Script still had a prison Planet in it, from which they escaped right before this takes place. She talks about the death star as if solo did not know it Existed, and in the final, condensed Script they just escaped from it.

@nexusutube I think she was 15. From interviews with her I learned that Berlin formed in 77. She joined it at 19 in 79. She graduated high school at 16 to try acting. These auditions took place in December of 75. So if her birthday is early in the year, she'd nearly be 16 at the time of this video.

I think Terri Nunn revealed many years later that she was actually glad that she didn't get the part in Star Wars. Terri wasn't bad at all, but Carrie Fisher was perfect for the role. Instead, Terri became the lead singer of the US's famous "European-style" 80s synthpop group "Berlin" where she did an absolutely fantastic job!!

Chris Nemec And that's what she wanted in her life, to become a singer. Terri started her career as an actress (Her Dad was an Actor), and she was a good one at that. She did a lot of TV/Film work from 1976 to 1983. She joined Berlin in 1979 and still worked as an actress until she gave it up in 1983 to focus on Berlin's career. Her last acting gig was a short lived Patrick Swayze series.

Maybe but Lucas had no idea at the time that he was going to make Princess Leia Luke's sister. For that matter Darth Vader wasn't even planned to be Luke's father in the beginning, just a bad guy. Lucas kind of did storylines like he directs on the spot. He didn't plan all this until Star Wars became a huge hit.

I actually kind of like that Nunn has a completely different take on Leia's character than Fisher did. I agree, Fisher was better for the role but it's obvious Nunn had her own interpretation of who Leia was supposed to be and acted out on it. You gotta respect that.

Who would have ever thought Terri Nunn was 15 yrs old in this audition . She looks and sounds at least 19 yrs old . Carrie Fisher about this time in 1976 was just too fine for words , had more Movie experience , and was a little more of a woman overall for this part at 20 yrs old . Plus Star Wars Creator George Lucas couldn't have a Romantic Relationship with Han Solo and Princess Leia if Harrison Ford was 35 Yrs old and Terri Nunn was 16 Yrs old in actuality in first Star Wars Movie in 1977 🤘🤗🤠🤑🙃🤔🙄💪✨🌟💫🔥💥😎😲😐😬😳😉🙊🙉🙈

Carrie's speaking voice, in the film, is huskier, more mature, and authoritative... more befitting the regalness of a Rebel Princess leading a rebellion. Teri, who's greatly talented, sounds too teen-ish and meek here, not that she couldn't have changed that with some work. It's easy to see why Carrie was chosen. Teri is still a stone fox and GILF.

Wasn't there an episode of Sliders where, in one parallel universe, Terri Nunn got the role? As I recall, they depicted this by colorizing this audition footage and digitally combining with the existing scene in Star Wars. J/k, but there was a Sliders were Back to the Future 4 got made.

At the very beginning before the large amount of static and the Terri Nunn's audition, I'm fairly sure that the guy who says "maybe the fact that no one who go there voluntarily could help us." is sound designer of Star Wars Ben Burtt. I wonder if he was just helping with reading at the auditions or if he actually auditioned himself.

@@hollystiener16 Every source I can find on the internet says that she was born on June 26, 1961. So unless, all of those sources are wrong , she would have been 14-15 at the time of these auditions. Also people don't always have clear memories of things that happened 45+ years ago. So Terri may be a little off on her estimate.

Terri Nunn's delivery comes across as a whiney teenager. Carrie Fisher's delivery has a regal quality, something that a person of proper nobility would posses, even in a time of crisis. Carrie Fisher was spot on. Best choice was made. Thanks, George!

Just watched an interview with George Lucas and Carrie Fisher. She asks what happened to her "runner up", and Lucas admitted it was Terri Nunn, and that she became the lead singer of Berlin. So now I've heard it from the horse's mouth.

I'm 38 and I know I kinda remember when "x" happened as a teenager. It's easy for years to blur from one into another. If it's accurate that she was born in June of '61, it's impossible for her to be 17 when she auditioned. As that would be 1978. With that birthdate in mind, and the auditions happening in Dec. of '75, she would be 14 and a half in this video.

Except I don't think Han and Leia would have ended up together had she been cast, and had Harrison Ford still been cast as Han. The age difference would be WAY too great with her being like, 15. Ergo, no Kylo Ren.

For those comments that say Terri Nunn would have made a great Leia - they could still cast her in the role in any subsequent films....by the way, for those interested in Terri Nunn's acting career, check out her performance in the James at 15 (or 16) episode titled "The Girl With the Bad Rep", filmed when she was only 16; she is tremendous in it. She was/is a terrific actress.

Love Terri, but I think they made the right decision here. Carrie Fisher's delivery was so much more authoritative and befitting a Princess with military leadership. Terri's voice is begging her to sing the lines! It's like she was destined for Berlin and the world is better off for it.

Problem with her though is her voice is too much like a regular chick's voice. She sounds like a California surfer girl and has a sharp high pitch. She yells at Han like a hot chick yelling at her boyfriend.

I wish there was some tape of her with Walken as Solo. In my head I could see their combined interpretations having better chemistry. I do think Terri is great here - and I think Terri Nunn would have been great - with Will Seltzer as Luke and Walken as Solo. As has been revealed by Fred Roos, the more serious Nunn/Seltzer/Walken trio was basically up against the more comedic/warm Hamill/Leia/Ford trio. The latter won out. But it is kind of interesting to see Lucas go with a more serious trio in the prequels over a more comedic/warm trio (Hugh Jackman/Keira Knightly/Joshua Jackson).

Notice how Star Wars usea terms like rotations instead of days or weeks. Same way terms like "ok" sounds awkward in the above context.

@MarshalLucky1 Not a tyrant, but he certainly was driven by his specific vision, though he wasn't certain how or who would be the candidates to portray the various roles. I mean, I am aware of the fact that Luca's original idea of C-3P0 was to be a kind of Bronx used car salesman but actor Anthony Daniels gave a different approach that was more sympathetic, or in other words, actually works much more better.

@Khultan Nobody was "there to referee" Lucas on the original films either, with the exception of the very first one when the studio kept trying to get him to make Chewbacca wear pants -and Lucas ignored them anyway. The idea that Lucas is some sort of tyrant and control freak is absurd. He offered David Hare the job of re-writing the prequels and directing TPM. Does that sound like a control freak?

Kind of intense situation, no??? Sometimes logic slips because of tradition. Like looking for an "actor" when the guy reading for the auditions (Ford) sounds great, knows the lines, looks cool, yet it took awhile for them to wake up and cast him. Whoever fits is all that should matter, not a name, business, rep, etc...

@bobzeda The sequels were painful, true! But above is how people talk all the time (sans space info), just listen to discussions at work... in real work places. Movie dialogue, books, lyrics, etc... is efficient to sell (2 hours, 3 mins, whatever..); they write cleaner than Lucas, but in life we often go back for more info because of a misunderstanding. Many films today don't explain enough... they move at unrealistic video-game pace. Twitter, texting, etc..is causing problems now.

It just made sense to me b/c of the famous quote from Harrison Ford who told Lucas, "You can write this stuff but you sure as hell can't say it." Explain the ideas of the midichlorians and Qui Gon and Obi Wan running super fast down the hall to escape the Droidekas in Ep. 1. Wher else in the saga did those occur? Whose ideas were those "Mr. smarty man?" (American Beauty reference).

@rhoadnaroahs Han Solo was a green alien with gills in Lucas's original script, and he insisted on including tons of hard to pronounce names for dozens of characters you never got to see but somehow were relevant to the story. Like "Mr. Plinkett" (a.k.a. RedLetterMedia) says, what if Lucas had had the kind of control and money back in the 70's that he has today? Chances are a totally different Star Wars movie would have been made. Probably a "Phantom Menace" of the 70's.

I don't think he's loaded, I think he's read at least 50 times straight with different actresses that were seriously considered - since here they're checking the read and the chemistry. Terri is good here - Carrie has more sensitivity proper for a princess.
