MichaelAngelo Taylor - I couldn’t agree more and what makes it worse is they don’t even know the man personally. It’s like we have been so much to think negatively about one another that we take anything a hater said and believe it wholeheartedly. It’s sad. Personally I don’t know the man well enough to have an opinion about anything other than the fact that he is very successful. Whether that came about ethically or otherwise is outside of my knowledge and I celebrate success (especially black success).

No deceit in My Spirit - I love how she handled it as well. She never once said anything derogatory about Steve. Which is awesome because as I read so many folks saying bad things about him not one makes sense. We have been taught to hate our successful folks to that point that it is sad. If Steve and Bernie bad beef that was their beef. But what few want to accept and/or realize is Steve opened the door for “The Bernie Mac Show.” At the time that Steve had his show America and the world at large wasn’t ready for someone as raw and real as Bernie. They needed a softer easier to for them to handle brother like Steve. Whether you love or hate the man he helped pave the way.

Humility is not negative or positive. Some people believe that you HAVE to be humble. The crazy thing is a lot of people look at humility from a “have/have not” perspective and we accept our own cockiness but misjudge cockiness coming from someone more successful. She's right about the definition of humble..BUT, that is not the only definition. Straight from Merriam Webster: Definition of humble (Entry 1 of 2) 1: not proud or haughty : not arrogant or assertive 2: reflecting, expressing, or offered in a spirit of deference or submission I don't people walking away from this video thinking they woke and that humility is a bad thing. Recognize your own importance or skills and abilities for sure. But don't disregard, debase, or disrespect others while doing so. That just weak. Most cocky people are just masking insecurities.
@kentalks28184 жыл бұрын
She confusing the etymology of Humble as opposed to the modern definition. She and her husband are still right in their understanding of humble and it’s origin. It was changed by Europeans from an internal expression to an outward one. Humble didn’t mean to be limited by other. To tell someone not to be proud or assertive is something a manipulator says to people they want to control. It says know your place. Humble has been a word used by those in power/status against those who lack power/status. Humble is actually an internal gauge for individuals to know their own limitations as we’re all of the earth with our feet on the ground. Just like how we use conscious to mean our internal gauge to know and discern right from wrong. Integrity and dignity is a more appropriate outward expression that we should project to one another. We must be humble to our own limitations and have the dignity and integrity to act accordingly towards oneself and others because of our own limitations.
@3d1k34 жыл бұрын
@@kentalks2818 I definitely rock with that. I like the Biblical approach to defining and living humble. Even Kings and Jesus Himself were humble while fully acknowledging there elevated position. I somewhat disagree that knowing your place is inherently a bad thing. There's balance. Knowing your place isn't simply knowing who's above you and submitting or knowing who's below you and subjecting. There's balance. We all play a role and our roles are interdependant of one another. Which calls for an appreciation and respect for people at all levels, acknowledge that there is someone below you and above you. Even if you reject Christian ideals, the principal still holds up. Take Steve Harvey for example. He's an excellent talent but every project has a staff that contributes hardwork and ideas that propel him forward. Yes, he could find other staff but they could also contribute those ideas and hardwork to another star.
@kentalks28184 жыл бұрын
Deon Knott the concept of knowing ones place is what allowed slavery and systematic racism to exist. It’s also used to make a person feel that they can’t ascend any higher than where they are. Playing you position is much needed but human nature enlist and exploit status has put that out of balance. It’s not about knowing your place but knowing the place that you’re in. There is a difference. Someone posted a comment on the Bible view of humility and it says you only have to be humble to God not man. I replied to that comment stating that in all religions, Christianity included, that it was used by those who wrote/translated the Bible to control others. The context/concept of humbling oneself to God only furthers my point of it meaning a acknowledgement of ones own limitations. No matter who we think we are, death is the ultimate humbler.
@3d1k34 жыл бұрын
@@kentalks2818 as I have studied it, humility in the Bible is about, as you said, knowing your own limitations. But, it does not teach humility to God only. It teaches Humility as personal limitations and positional awareness of those below, at, and above you. It's about respecting the position of those around you. Everyone is to be given respect. Even fools. But there are levels to respect and not everyone merits the same level. We're humble everyday when we show respect to bosses, governmental authorities, employees, service industry workers, etc. I would say that fear and insecurity and lack of access to education and power structures is what keeps people from ascending higher and is what kept slaves enslaved and currently keeps the mentally slaved enslaved. I don't want to blame humility for things it's not responsible for just like I don't want to blame being nice, for example. Nice guys get ran over and used and women often don't choose them. But being nice isn't the actual problem. It's lack of self confidence and other personal issues. Generally we agree though. I think we're nearing the territory of semantics. I
@kentalks28184 жыл бұрын
Deon Knott first I do want to point out that you’re right. The Bible does speaking about being humble when dealing with others. I should’ve looked it up to refresh myself on it instead of taking some random KZbin poster on face value. Your understanding of the word is on point and the comment you made under the definition in your original comment shows that. You’ll see why I said understanding see as you read what I’m about to point out. The wisdom you gave in it was sound as well. It’s your use of the definition that I’m speaking on specifically. Definitions change, original meanings don’t. It still means that all people are to be humble when dealing with others not humble to position. There is a difference. That means that no one has a position of being over or under you. We play our position based on the level of responsibility it entails and each other’s level of understanding, with the ultimate understanding being that we are all children of God. People don’t use it like that in practice. To people it means superior and inferior, I have and you don’t, basically power. So saying we’re humble to power positions but those very powers and the things that those powers set in place (fear, insecurity, no education, institutions) is what keep people in those places is in itself a contradiction. They can’t exist in the same space. If we all practiced knowing are personal limitations and being understanding of others limitations then we’d have a totally different existence that we’d be experiencing. My point is that humble is misused and abused as a form of control and not the knowledge, wisdom and understanding of limitations as intended. A position of power doesn’t overrule that it’s about gauging oneself so not to inflate ones sense of self while dealing with others. Which, happen(ed)(s) almost all of the time by those in a position of power and those lusting for power. Yes, you are absolutely right that people without understanding shouldn’t go out here and disrespect people. But, they should also make sure that they are not being disrespected as well. Humble was used by the English in their translation. It didn’t meaning lowly or submissive until Europeans changed it in the late 1200’s. Why is that? Even in the Greek lexicon it was changed from the literal ‘not raising far from the ground’ to the metaphorical meaning of lowly in status. Why is that? Why change the word from it’s proper meaning to a metaphor and not explain that it is a metaphor. It’s also a feminine noun with means it is applied to females and not males. Why is a metaphoric word being metaphorically attached to males? It’s all about power. The root word in Greek that the Greek word for humble comes from means understanding. That’s why I said you’re understanding is on point about how we should live out the word. The sad truth is that we as a collective don’t use it as having understanding. It’s been reduced to power over others which is the exact opposite of what it means. That renders the definition and the biblical interpretation given today void. I view this comment thread as us providing people with understanding through our practice of understanding in conversing with one another. That’s what humble is truly all about FYI, nice means stupid. So the saying is true, stupid men do finish last.

So when the MOST HIGH YAH says to “humble ourselves, seek HIS face, turn from our wicked ways then HE will hear us and heal our land.” - - -2 Chronicles 7:14. Is your husband going to say the same thing? Being humble doesn’t have to mean being weak or lower then anyone else. Being humble helps keep your head from becoming egotistical, cocky and just plain rude. Just because you got money doesn’t mean you have to act like you better then anybody. Matthew 19:24: And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of YAH. I hope y’all humble yourselves before the MOST HIGH YAH’S SON comes back. Shalom
@KattBon3_AlongCameASpyder4 жыл бұрын
But, the definition of "humble" does mean in humility and lower than. And, God himself is a selfish God in that respect being he himself said, I AM GOD THE TRUE AND LIVING GOD as in Exodus 20:3-5 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. So, realistically Terri's husband is correct with regards to Steve. Steve does NOT have to show humility or be humble to MAN, he ONLY has to recognize that ONE being, that is GOD. The problem is that we, as humans think that we are due the same respect as GOD! #notso #getoverit 😀💯
