I know there's problems with introducing a new species into an ecosystem, but I think think they should try releasing dragonflies or mosquito larvae eating fish or something to control these things.

@@GarfieldEnjoyer1878 I don't know. This case seems very stange. Almost like the mosquito's used to have a natural predator that went extinct, and now the mosquito are free to multiply like crazy. They should get scientist to verify that wasn't the case.

This reminds me my hometown back in Heilongjiang province in China, which is only 200km to Russia. The mosquitoes literally can sting through our winter clothes and are of similar size... It can form mosquito "smokes" and terrifying.

When I was in Alaska in the early 80s camping with my grandparents we use to spray our cloths arms legs almost everything down with Raid or Black Flag that way they started to die when they landed on us. Often wondered about the safety long term? But it worked great. One time up by the arctic circle they were so thick out side the tent you could actually see the shadowing of the swarms of them through the fabric of the tent.

Alan - go get tested for cancer... those sprays are toxic for human skin and for lung inhalation. you can look it up and do some research, it's really bad for you.

@@samgraves9165 correct, they actually are attracted to it. So if you want to draw hoards of them, let's say in mid-june, light up some citronella and they will come from miles away..... myth busters proved it, right before they got sick of each other and quit the show.

Use the sandalwood incense, it will kill the mosquito if they inhale the tiny smoke. Bad thing is if you are eating sometimes they died along the flight and it fell on your bowl. It's only $0.50 per box.

I don’t remember mosquitoes in Alaska but I do remember the enormous dragonflies! They were stuck all over the grill of our car. I’m glad they don’t bite!

I'm in Florida and people always say we have the worst mosquitos. Very wrong. Yes we have plenty of them here, but up north, they get crazy. I spent some of my childhood in Indiana, and I member CLOUDS of mosquitos flying around when we used to night fish during summer. Literally millions flying in clouds. I never saw that here in FL. Yes they are a pain in the ass every day, all year long, but northern summers...good God man

One time I had nothing to get rid of them so I put a lot of hand cream in my hand and started catching them in it by "slapping" them. I trapped every mosquito in the room and I survived the night

Eh I wouldn't let that discourage you from seeing Alaska. If you go in August, and stick to the southern regions you wont even encounter a single one, like I didn't in my experience. I did go to the arctic circle and when I got of there were more than normal but certainly not swarms.

When I went to visit the Arctic Circle and north to Prudhoe Bay I was lucky to have it windy the whole time to keep the mosquitoes away.

Best protection is thick layers of clothing with a mosquito netting to cover hat and head. Taking garlic pills also has a good effect if you can stand the smell when it comes out the pours of your skin. Also lemon eucalyptus oil on the skin will last for 3 hours at a 95% effectiveness .
