Every time I see a horse shift from scared to starting to consider with "two eyes" I get teary. The skill involved in getting them to that point represents the best connection a human can have with an animal. It's amazing how Steve works with horses and how he and Tanya work as a team to support so many of them.

Horse skills definitely carry over to dog skills. I used skills learned when I earned money walking two hot polo ponies on my sisters dogs. After the Thanksgiving meal, I offered to take her two adult Airedales for a walk and we will go out through the garage. As I exited, I could hear my sister and mom laughing, that I would not be able to control the dogs. Yep! The pups lacked manners! We spent close to 15 minutes in the garage, in the tight space between the cars. We had some ‘discussions’ and there were a few ‘toe taps’, similar to Steve’s ‘Boinging Stick’. I worked on them focusing on me, taking one step forward, one step back and just stand. When I had their full focus on me, we calmly walked out of the garage and down the street. We had a lovely 45 minute lesson and walk. When I got back to the house, everyone was in the living room looking out, expecting my arms to be much longer, both dog leashes wrapped around me and the pups taking me for a walk! The pups and I stopped and they calmly waited while I gave the ‘spectators’ a cheezie grin. We walked back in through the garage and the pups waited on the rug until I gave them the signal of release. They calmly walked over to their rugs and laid down. My sister wanted to know what I did to her dogs! I smiled and replied “we went for a walk”.

Took me 3 weeks to catch my nervous, injured, 3 y o TB! She got to the point where, whenever I tried to LEAVE her paddock, she would very skillfully catch the backs of my shoes with her toes, preventing me from moving my foot, then she would shove her shoulder in front of me, blocking my path, and finally she would envelope me with her head and neck! 😂😅 She would tickle my 3 y o daughter's neck until she was a hysterical laughing mess on the floor. She was HUGE, yet so skillfully gentle. I know Steve would NOT approve, what she got away with, in my company! But I adored her! Yes, I rode her - totally her choice, she would stand conveniently near a fence, I'd slide on and we'd go for a blast around the paddock. She would go left/right, depending on where I was leaning, and at a pace I would demand using voice, and degree of my body relaxation.

I loved her, so much it hurt.... A "friend" begged/demanded me to sell my mare to her.... after 18 months of begging, to nurture our "friendship" I finally relented.... within 18 months my beautiful mare was dead 😢

Your love and understanding of horses combined with your tenderness and patience is so palpable. And your ability to “firm up” with no anger on top of that. You don’t fear them. It’s no wonder that you are so effective with even the most difficult challenging horses. I find your way with horses to be such an inspiration for me.

Being a natural horsemanship fan for decades, and having trained my own horses the cowboy way many many years ago, I can watch Steve and see all the trainers that have influenced his training method. I really like the way he thinks about the horse, and I have tried to imitate him now with my own horses, it’s cool to watch how they respond. He is one of the greats. Thank you for your videos and giving us horse people just another method to communicate with our best horse friends! From South Eastern Washington State, USA, thank you Steve! Happy trails❤❤❤

Brilliant VLOG … Dylan looked to be a beautiful little Welsh horse … in great shape. I realized it was an older VLOG being re-released, when you said you’d been at this making VLOGs for a better part of a year. I tell you, if someone watching this didn’t shed a tear or two of happiness when Lisa was able to do what she did, they must be totally void of emotion. Such a happy ending indeed. I’m not sure how long ago this was from present day but it would be nice to know how successful she was in bringing Dylan (and his sister) around … and being able to incorporate him and her, into the riding school. Must be such a nice feeling to provide break throughs for horse and owner, whereby they can move forward into unchartered territories, with quality and safely. I always love watching your VLOGs and I must say you’ve come a long ways yourselves. Think of all you’re doing now in comparison to what you did then … and how many people you’ve helped over the years. So many grateful people thankful for having the opportunity you provided for them to get past whatever hurdle they had and then enjoy their lives to the fullest … together. Thanks again for sharing! As always, looking forward to the next VLOG. Happy Trails! 🙏🙌✝️❤️🇨🇦

I really like her channel as well. Wish we'd had all these great trainers available so easily when I was growing up - in my 70s now. Was lucky to have had an older Polish man who trained Lipizzans before WW1 help me rescue and train a feral horse and taught me totally different methods than what I learned growing up on a Texas ranch. When he died, I kept seeking others who did things more like he did so found Ray Hunt and attended multiple clinics with Buck Brannaman. They helped me developedeeper connections with my own horses and take rodeo and ranch horses and turn them into therapists in an equine assisted therapy program. Now I love watching these younger trainers and continue to learn different approaches with different horses and issues even if the basic principles are the same. And I am so happy KZbin makes it possible for so many to learn how to build these relationships.

A large part of his patience is due to knowledge. Knowing what technique to apply, when to apply it, how much to apply, etc. allows the handler to relax and wait for the horse to respond. We would all be better horse handlers if we could apprentice ourselves to a horseman such as this for a year or two.

Fabulous video Steve, You know animals of all kinds can sense a persons emotions. Especially fear and hate. That is what makes you special. You show nothing but love for the animal and they sense that. They may not trust you but they give you a chance. That is the difference and you never fail to gain their trust. Trust is something that is earn no given. Love the videos!

Yes, I do learn some dog training from Steve's horse training. Tanya, I have a young (now 2 year old) Springer Spaniel that I got from a wonderful Breeder as a pup. We adore her!!!!! She is fearless and can scare a huge German Shepherd away and at other times frightful of stupid stuff such as a new handbag. Would love Steve to do a video on how to help. Yes, I know it's important to desensitize. I get through one thing to face another. If this keeps up, you need to come to Virginia. We do have a senior male Golden Retriever who is her leader and best mate. He is a huge help, but I understand we need to separate them. Wonder what Steve thinks.
