I recently visited Zion, Bryce and Grand Canyon with my brothers. I have wanted to get to Zion for years but I never got around to it. I have stage four colorectal cancer so time is short and valuable for me. My bro's put the trip together and away we went. To actually see Zion in person was amazing. Especially to share it with my brothers. Iwill always cherish this trip and forever thank my brothers for making my dream come true .

This is the best Angels landing video I have watched. It really brings out how dangerous the hike is without someone trying to act like a macho guy or hero because they did it. My brother and I hiked to Scouts landing in 2019 and that was enough for us. Beyond that it isn't really a trail or a hike, it is rock climbing and too many that do it have little or no experience at that.

Thank you for sharing this! Great video. I've hiked Angel's Landing twice - once in the mid 1990s in my late 20s with some guys from church, and then again with my younger son, brother-in-law, and nephews in October, 2018. I was 53 then. In 2018 we all reached Scouts Lookout (?) where the chains begin and I was so tired I told them to go on without me. I was a bit out of shape at the time and I was worried I'd take a wrong step or something. I sat there for about 40 minutes catching my breath and psyching myself up, and then got up and hiked the chains part to the top by myself. It was extremely scary as I have a thing about heights as well. It was also really exhilarating to do it, though, and I felt the confidence growing in me the farther I went. As I reached the last ledge at the top and peeked my head up above the rock, my family was right there getting ready to descend and I caught my nephew's eyes and he yelled, "Hey, look! It's Uncle Pat!" They all turned and saw me, and the smile that came across my son Colin's face will be with me for the rest of my life. We took some great pics of our group up there and they let me rest for about 30 minutes before we began the hike back down. I'm glad I did it and have the photos with my son to prove it. It's one of my all time favorite memories. Thanks gain, and God bless you. 🙂😎

@@IdRatherBeHikingI echo chef boy with a sentiment of being proud to know you virtually. I’m camped on B.L.M. land at Gooseberry Mesa. Yesterday was first day ever in Zion. I hiked up to Scout Lookout and then did 1 hour on the west rim trail. Today I may apply for a lottery ticket. 6 hours of hiking was exhausting. May do Emerald pools today. Angel’s Landing seems terrifying to me. At 45 minutes you say this path is narrow with high exposure and no chain. Then a little later you say you are at the narrow place and there were chains on both sides. It looks dangerous. Am I missing something here? Camera angle, scary sound track, your fear of falling, or is it really a fear of fallin, or both?

@@rayray4192its hundreds of feet vertical drop to the bottom, thats basically the jist of it. @@IdRatherBeHiking the hike scares me. I did not try for a permit. A good life is not determined by hiking Angel’s Landing. Going home Watchman at first light. Staying at Watchman campground. Zion is a wonderland. Big rock slide today at Weeping Rock. Buses stopped running. When they started back traumatized people hit in who witnessed the slide. Lots of dust in the air. I have been to Zion and hiked around it and I have to say, it is by far the prettiest and most amazing place on Earth that I have ever been, even more so than the Grand Canyon which is also an amazing place. Unlike you, I am not afraid of heights, but I have zero desire to hike Angels Landing. It is crowded and dangerous. Sure, it rewards you with amazing, one of a kind views along the way, but the many other trails in Zion have rewards of their own and are not as dangerous and/or crowded. You will also not find me running through slot canyons/the narrows when there is the smallest chance for rain. I do not understand why people enjoy taking risk for a measly view and bragging rights. To each his/her own. PS-To the channel owner, nice footage of your scramble up and down the mountain. Its the best footage I have watched of Angels Landing and after watching it, I have less desire to hike it than before watching your video. Angels Landing is just such a poor risk/reward set-up (along with Half Dome although Half Dome looks much easier, except for the fact that it is worn smooth and gives no traction in rain).

There was thin ice on the shaded part of the rocks. Many people stopped at the scout point (i believe it's called) and everyone kept saying it was too sketchy. Until one guy cmae down looking like a swan of how elegantly and seamless he made it looked. He said it was breathtaking and all we needed was that one yes from a sea of NOs! Agreed, it was really something special. I've pushed my limited mush further now since this video but it still holds a special spot as its a really crazy experience. Did you do it when you needed a permit?

I remember hiking this in 2020 before they implemented the lottery system with a big thermos of hot soup in my pack. Eating that at the top with my pals was such a treat.

And for the next act, to really slay the dragon I highly, highly recommend trying out rock climbing. You can take a beginner class at any gym near you. Gentle introduction would be bouldering (low walls, no ropes, just fall onto a plush crash mat), then you can move on to top roping (tall walls, with ropes, repel down when you fall or finish). There are even more climbing types beyond that if you like it, but with just those two you would slay that dragon once and for all!

December, January and February. If you have the flexibility in your schedule when there’s no snow and a warmer day pops up, fifty sixty degrees angels landing is perfect. The park and trail is empty. Too cold for the narrows but its a great way to knock out some of the busier hikes.

One of the clearest step by step videos. I first hiked this in the early 90’s, but regular film and camcorders didn’t do it justice.

OMG I cried for you! I'm 69 and my husband is 82. In 2006 we were in Zion after coming off ten days house boating on Lake Powell. I had a lucid dream that was a religious experience. I was definitely in my girlfriend's house! Walking in Zion was magical and serene. But when we got to the Angel Falls stop, we didn't even get off the bus! But now I've walked it with you. Your first wife was a stepping stone!

Never have I ever had more random conversations with strangers about how fear than on this hike XD. A couple of my friends decided to stay at the lookout, and I felt for them as I thought the view at the end was truly special. As someone who doesn't have much of a fear of heights I actually think the exposure was a little overhyped, but that's not to say it wasn't still extreme. Congrats on doing it and overcoming your fears!

I pulled this video up to hike while I was on the treadmill at my gym. Let me tell you it was fabulous. Thanks for taking us along! As much as I loved it, I would never attempt it on 73 now and I've always been afraid of heights. I'm no longer afraid of heights but still I'm 73. Hehehe

I have been afraid of heights my whole life and have challenged myself to get over it for 40 yrs. I recently found out that I have an inner ear disfunction...it makes me dizzy and feel like I am falling when I get to the edge of a cliff. Good for you for facing your fear and really living your best life.

Wow that is an impressive achievement for someone fear of heights. I had sweaty palms and anxiety just watching the video 😝, is super scary but even worst coming down, I would love to be able to do this hike but I don’t think so I could make it this life 😂. Great video, really enjoy it, thank you for sharing.

Those hikes with their very precarious holds, can be twice the danger due to the hikers around you; if someone slips and grabs you, down you both go! Or slips and knocks you off your perch, same thing. My physician father diagnosed acrophobia in me at age 4, he loved to hike and get to the top and look out at the grand view. He made me come to him and I did so on all fours, bawling because I was scared. When I got to him, he made me stand up and I climbed up his pantleg and hung on for dear life! Years later, I learned to fly to help with that fear. You must look down a lot when flying and I got used to that with no problem. I've been up to the observation decks/+towers, and as long as there is something to hang onto, I'm okay. From the top of the Empire State Building in NY to my neighbor when I worked in San Francisco, the top of the TransAmerica building -- they were all interesting, but not really scary to me, but a narrow trail on a high mountain IS, chains or not, I love life too much to risk losing it!

Man that is so scary. To be on safer side, you can wear climbing harness, attach rope with carabiners, when ever you need, you can hook carabiners in chain. In EU, its called VIA FERRATA.

Not even one third of the way through and my legs are weak so having to stop and have a coffee. How pathetic is that? I think you are amazing overcoming your fears like this, David. Well done. Also, I admire your reasons for doing it. I lost my husband eight years ago and every day, I feel the loss. Whatever the circumstances, loss is loss and a major life change which can weaken the spirit if we let it. Thank you for motivating me. I will never do this hike as I am more afraid of heights than you and my middle name is Wimp, but watching you do it was wonderful.
