For the London pool, I don't understand why they're needlessly making it more complicated and adding more points of failure. Why waste money on a complex hydraulic staircase lift and a specialized water pump when you could just have the staircase be permanent, and even have a small island around it to minimize the risk of any water damage lower in the building. You would still have the gorgeous view from the edge, but for cheaper and with much less risk of swimmers being stranded in the roof pool during a power failure or due to a lift/pump malfunction.

Based on what happened to the one pool that gave way, I think if they decide to put up another pool on the roof of a building they should maybe place some sort of safety net below so if the thing does give way, the water can pass through but the people can be stopped by the net. Granted there may be pool material falling as well, but the alternative would be worse. If the net was made the right way, most of the material could pass through the net leaving the people at least safe from plummeting hundreds of feet to their death. Granted, if you have to put a net there, why build the pool in the first place. But it seems that even if the safety was guaranteed and no net was necessary, I would feel better with some backup just in case. It wouldn't hurt.
@c182SkylaneRG3 жыл бұрын
Except that one pool that gave way had the bottom remain a single solid piece all the way to the ground. Granted it was only a single story, but that's still within the distance you need to place a safety net to catch people before they're going too fast to stop safely.

And then same daughter mentioned above, 10yrs old, is my daredevil. She'd be laughing the entire time her brother is tossing her up. Heights is my "Issue". But not for me. I'm fine being up high and looking down. I'm terrified of heights for my kids. I was born in Niagara Falls and ever since I started having kids I have nightmares of them falling over the edge of the observation tower. I've had this nightmare with ALL of them! When I used to scuba dive I had a diving holiday in the Scilly Isles off South West UK visitting shipwrecks every day ranging from a few feet below the sea to one 150 feet down. Thais the limit for scuba diving using compressed air, beyond that you need air gas mixtures. Your lungs still take the maximum volume of air because you regulator adjusts to the pressure around you, so at 100 feet you are breathing air at about 65psi. Because the water is exerting the same pressure it feels like you're breathing air at normal pressure and also why you don't explode.

That one pool looks like it's a massive cruise ship on top of three huge pillars. I wonder if that was the goal when they built it though.

To be honest the Shangai one might be handy if lower floors of the building ever catck fire. It might be an idea to do this in more high rises!

@ 6:09 When deep-water free diving (diving without supplemental oxygen or scuba equipment) does it make a difference if you're in fresh water as opposed to salt water? Most free diving competitions are held in salt water, but no one seems to know if the salt content improves the diver's time spent submerged. Has anyone ever heard of a reason why salt water is preferred for these events?
@kittenmatchvids64403 жыл бұрын
not sure about an answer to your exact question, but salt water does increase buoyancy so possibly something to do with that.

Lol I'm not too cool with the footprints/tracks on the bottom of the blue sinkhole near Belize...that's crazy. I have to say I just prefer the old fashioned pool on the ground floor of the hotel or outside on the ground of a normal house...that's enough for me....

Had to laugh at the resort in China, 37.7°c is a typical summers day here in Australia. Imagine how they would be if they had one of our hottest heatwave days. Last summer we had several days of up to 46°c....

As someone from Kauai, Kipu Falls is no where near the ocean. The locations showcased about the ocean being 15+ feet, is a place called Queens Bath, which is located at the north shore. Don’t get me wrong, Kipu Falls is dangerous because during the winter times of the year, the rainfall causes both flash floods and increased water flow which cause a dangerous undertow beneath the waterfall, which has drowned folks. It is true that the way to Kipu Falls is closed. But there are other places to swim.
@peoplehour13 жыл бұрын
Actually it's not queens bath but some place at the north shore near queens bath. Not Kipu falls which is inland and a fresh water stream waterfall that has a mean undercurrent by the moku of puna.

I was actually there at the Marina bay swimming pool in singapore when i was 11 years old, it was kinda scary but also not scary cause i was more distracted with the water pressured massage sun beds lol. Either way while i was there some guy even sat on the edge of the pool and then the life guard started whistling for him to climb down.
