I think the issue people had more was how it got to that point, the mysteries and clear plot holes created ect rather then the ending its self. I mean the Jin/Sun death part was really touching and all and was a good illustration of how much better Jin and Suns relationship had become since being on the island, but they just orphaned there daughter? Just a lot of things they left a really bitter taste, that makes the overall finale seem worse, if you just watch that one episode in a vacuum its pretty good but with everything else in that season leading to that it takes a lot away from it.

rewatching right now. Up until season 5 episode 100 I would say the writing was amazing. Beginning with the way they killed Daniel the writing drops way down during season 5. Beginning to notice some really big issues with writing the characters to act really dumb and out of character in order to make the plot make sense.

Just watched Lost again….binged in a week from beginning to the end…boy how much I missed so many details as we waited a week at a time during the original run…now that all episodes are available and we can watch them back to back…Lost is one of the greatest show of all time….if anyone loved this show at one time, I strongly suggest to watch it again in its entirety…original and interesting….and how well it aged to stand in time even in 2022….I am so glad that I decided to watch Lost again…can’t say the same about GOT

The entire concept of the afterlife they created as the “sideways” as it was called before we knew what was going on…was absolutely brilliant. Just an incredible ending that actually gave the viewer a great deal of closure IMO

@@rileytipper5110 - I get what you're saying. I wouldn't quite say that they were in "purgatory" but simply the "hereafter" -- a place they all created to find one another. The events on the island were real. The deaths? They were real too. Some people (like Boone, Shannon, etc.) died early while others (like Hurley, Ben, etc.) died long after Jack died in the bamboo forest on the island. Jack always had a problem with letting go -- and this was true in the "hereafter" too. I get what the writers were doing...and it makes quite a bit more sense now than it did then.

I personally loved the finale. It was really the best way to end such a fantastic show. People who don't like it usually misunderstand it. The island was real and everything that happened there happened... the only part that was in the afterlife/purgatory was the flash sideways.

Most people realize that only the flash sideways was purgatory, and the island was real. They don’t like that because that timeline made what happened on the island (saving the world) seem not important, only that they spent the time together. It also didn’t tie into the time travel story line which it was advertised as being. More than that the island story line was not that good. There was a lot of running around that seemed to only be wasting time for the climax. Explanations were either not given or rushed. For example, instead of a great scene where Jacob sees Locke or Jack in the lighthouse mirror, we get Jacob at the campfire saying “you were flawed”. I know it’s all a matter of opinion, but it definitely is about more than not understanding what the flash sideways was.

The flash sideways was both a fakeout and fan-service to show what these characters' lives might have been like had the island blown up and sunk in the 1970s. Also, it showed their vision of a purgatory for the characters to meet, let go and move on with those they liked and loved during an extraordinary time in their lives. Denouements aren't very popular, so except for the clips of "New Man in Charge" it's left up to people's imagination as to what the survivors do after leaving the island.

Upon the start of the final season we could tell that they really were just making it up as it went along and were constantly retconning their own mythos in doing so. I loved LOST as it was airing. Now I hate it. I can't re-watch it because I'm too aware of the fact that it means absolutely nothing.

The character of John Locke was really well played by Terry O'Quinn. I really enjoyed Lost when it came out and just happened to be re-watching it for the second time all these 15+ years later, and it is fun. I really forgot so much, and I think there was a lot I missed the first time, it made a lot more sense the second time, and I was all new again too.

They where all lost, they had lost they’re families, when every person dies it signifies that they are not lost anymore and they found they’re family. The island is the sign of lost and in the end is a sign of finding the family they where lost with. That’s what made the best finale show of all time. They where never lost in a island, they where lost real in life, the island is metaphorical being stuck of they’re struggles in life. Death in the island metaphorical means they’re not lost no more.

Spoilers! He is such a good actor he went from being John Locke, the man of faith to being the literal embodiment of darkness and corruption. And although he looked exactly the same, I knew something was not right even before they showed Locke’s dead body. He has a totally different vibe and tone to him. Absolutely brilliant.

All of the Lost cast are fantastic, truly amazing. I love them all. I saw an interview with Evangeline Lilly. She said she would never do another show like Lost because she was so emotionally drained in it. And as I watch the series (for the 4th time....LoL!), it's clear how she would feel that way. All of the actors are so emotionally into their acting.

Ben killed Locke because he knew that Eloise could send Locke back to the Island. ... Ben knew if Locke got to Eloise then he'd be able to get back and reclaim leadership of the island, so Ben kills him and takes his place in getting the others back to the island, through Eloise.

A lot of folks I know, me included, recommend that new viewers stop at the end of Season 5. For us, Season 6 was largely a wasted opportunity, and the Sideways was just a fantasy land waste of time gimmick, just an excuse to bring back some cameos, and write whatever they wanted, because nothing that happened in the Sideways mattered. Because it was all just a shared fantasy. When more than half of your final season is essentially a dream sequence that has no impact on anything, that is a problem.

Uhh, you are so wrong. That "dream sequence" served a very important purpose... leading the losties to rediscovering their relationships and loved ones. At that point, flash forwards were pretty much done, you can't flash forward to heaven, and the only other option would have been spending all that time on the island. I love how they ended it and will gladly die on that hill. It wasn't as good an ending as Breaking Bad, but it's up there as a very satisfying series from start to finish. If you want to see how a great show can end poorly, I suggest you watch Game of Thrones.

Look at Christianity, for example. There are so many paradoxes in Scripture that can't be explained, there are questions about God and evil, about Predestination and free will, that can never be answered. But we rest on the cross, despite all these questions. The same for the characters in LOST, and the viewers of the show. There were so many unsolved questions, but the ending was not something that dismissed these questions, or explained them away, but something that transcended all their doubts, their struggles, their lack. The ending was not an Answer to questions. The ending was a Completion to their characters. And that is how the Lost were Found.

The problem was not the final season but the final episodes. The serious should have ended with everyone remembering their lives on and continueing to live in a parallel timeline. The flash sideways world shouldn't have been the after life but a different world where their actions would lead them. It would have been ten times better and more rewarding this way.

There is no need to argue as Jack's father explained it all, but most watchers seem to have ignored him: Jack Shephard : No. They're all... They're all dead. I'm dead. You're dead. Christian Shephard : Everyone dies sometime, kiddo. Some of THEM BEFORE YOU, SOME... LONG AFTER YOU. Jack Shephard : But why are they all here now? Christian Shephard: Well, there is no "now", here. Jack Shephard : Where are we, Dad? Christian Shephard: This a place that you... that you all made together so that you could find one another. The most important PART OF YOUR LIFE was the time that you spent with these people on that island. That's why all of you are here. Nobody does it alone, Jack. You needed all of them, and they needed you. Christian clearly tells him that the island was the most important PART OF HIS LIFE. He also tells him that some of them died before him (like Locke, killed by Ben or Charlie who drowned)and some long after him (Like Kate and Claire who left on the Ajira plane and lived however long they lived off the island.) Christian said "There is no 'now' here" implying that even if they had died off the island as old people, in the purgatory they made together they would have shown up as they looked while they were on the island.
