I exalt and praise God we will be going to a Bruce Cockburn concert tonight at the City Winery in NYC. His music has been extremely influential in my life’s ups and downs past the past 45 years. Bruce is a treasure and beautiful to be gift to humanity

I'm glad that Bruce seems to be doing so well. He and his music have been precious parts of my life for about 54 years now. He played a few times at our local coffee house near Montreal before he had any records out. Ironically, the last time I saw Bruce was when he played at Vancouver Island Music Fest. He was chatting with TD Mulligan at a nearby table from me backstage. When they parted ways. I followed Bruce for a moment and asked a question about one of his songs, Lord Of The Starfield. The song has become one of my favorites to perform in recent years. Bruce replied that he wrote it about Jesus.

Greetings TDM. Grateful to learn today of your channel and podcast. I have fond memories of Much West and other telly appearances for Much. As for Bruce, this album is incredible and one of his best. "Colin Went Down to the Water" is a stunning masterwork. Over the years, different Bruce songs would end up forming all these subtle parts of my life. "When a Tree Falls" making me first aware of environmental issues, "Open" being a moment of clarity about being yourself, and something like "Night Train" which has this killer bass part that I learned to play on my electric upright.

Outstanding, it’s difficult to find closure when we lose somebody as permanent in our identity as Gordon Lightfoot was/is. It’s so comforting to hear from other Canadian icons that were there and enjoyed the company of our mentors and hero’s (who never failed)

Bruce is a lot more forthcoming in his later years. You could see it in his interactions with the crowd over the years. First time we saw him decades ago, he was almost condescending to the crowd, saying that he wasn't a jukebox and he'll decide what to play. His most recent show, he was so gracious to the crowd, when someone shouted out a request, he simply said that he wrote over 300 songs and had forgotten how to play that one. His interactions definitely grew more intimate over the years. Just an amazingly talented man.

Excellent! Thank you for this!❤ I've seen Bruce live about ten times, including at The Montreal Jazz Festival in 1997. Always brilliant, including here! Never saw Gordon. My loss. Bruce's cover of Ribbon of Darkness is very moving and beautifully played. Bruce is a lighthouse!

Gordon’s lead guitarist was a man named Red Shea. He was a phenomenal finger-picker. A classic folkie.

Great interview with Bruce about his career and memories of Gordon Lightfoot. Another "folkie" you might interested in talking to is Brent Titcomb who is almost as old as Gordon and has some interesting tales about the folk music scene when they were young and restless in the Yorkville scene. Brent and 3's A Crowd recorded Gordon's song Steel Rail Blues and put it out as a 45 rpm single back in the 1960s. Gordon also did some 12 string guitar work on Brent's first solo album. Brent lives in Stratford Ontario. Speaking of our mutual love of music, I've been a DJ on Hornby Island radio station CHFR 96.5FM for 10 years now. Terry, thanks very for keeping track of Canadian music history, it really has been an amazing trip. Best regards, King Anderson

When I think of acoustic Canadian music I always think....minor chords. Also droning notes like bagpipers use. Don't know why....was thrilled to meet Bruce in Eugene Oregon during his Slice of Life tour and graciously he took time to have a chat.

I think of Stan Rogers. You can tell right off he's not English but something about him doesn't seem American, so...

Methane coming out of taps from permafrost melt and fracking are indeed "things" ... and, like the wildfires, they are intimately tied to the billionaires' hydrocarbon economy that is cooking the planet. Great interview, TDM.
